am going through finances with dh and he was to learn I have spent £300 on presents for the kids, we have 2 so is roughly £150 each, this includes all presents from 'santa' and under tree presents from us. this will be it now though!

Does this sound v excessive to you? How much do you roughly spend per dc?

Depends on age of kids and whether or not you can afford it. Tis easy to ontly spend thrippence ha'penny when they are young and/or you have a large extended family; it's not so easy when they're older and don't have many relatives buying for them

RichardCranium · 02/12/2009 21:36

have spent about £50 per child. So £100. Mine are 3yo and 21mo so was never going to spend more than that.

Doesn't sound particularly excessive to me, depends whether you can afford it or not.

LilyBolero · 02/12/2009 21:37

We have so far spent about £40-£50 per child, and will spend another £10-£20 on stocking.

We have three children though, so they have to get less!

LilyBolero · 02/12/2009 21:37

(To add, ds1 is 8, dd is 6, ds2 is 3)

DanJARMouse · 02/12/2009 21:37

We have in the past spent as little as £20 per child.

This year, although still struggling, we have managed to spread it around a bit, and have ended up at about £75-80 per child. (I have 3)

There are a few more bits I would love to get them, but what I have got them is lots of little bits rather than fewer expensive items, so Im leaving it.

My gran has sent a cheque for £100 today, so works out at £20 each (DH and I included) but we have decided to put it to one side and get new shoes for the kids in the sales after christmas but change the tags on a few of their presents to say "love Nana" and DH and I will buy ourselves something in the sales too.

allaboutme · 02/12/2009 21:40

Mine are 4 and nearly 2 and I have spent about £100 each on them.
About £30-£40 on a main present and then the rest on bits and bobs from Father Christmas!

I do feel I've gone a bit OTT actually as we have a large family and they will get plenty from everybody else too! Would have been more practical and sensible to spend £50 each... BUT we can afford it and I love christmas and they will be happy as pigs in shit opening all their presents so why not hey?

epithet · 02/12/2009 21:41

About £100 each - consisting of £60 for a biggish joint present and £50-£70 on 2 other medium presents each, book each, DVD each, stocking filler stuff.

JajasSupportingAnyFucker · 02/12/2009 21:44

Maximum of £80 each (DT's age 7yrs) and I feel that might well be too much. They don't know what anything costs so think you can get away with spending a bit less until they are older and more savvy.

LastDitch · 02/12/2009 21:46

I dont know how much I've spent but 99% is second hand...
Stocking stuff will be mostly new tho'...

The DDs are 6 and 3 and I reckon I won't be able to get away with it much longer...

I have bought far too much stuff but have been shopping since August and squirreling most of it away...

bellavita · 02/12/2009 21:46

Mine are 12.5 & 10 - we have spent around 350 per child, could be a little more. BUT, they only have my mum,dad and brother that they get other presents from.

SausageRocket · 02/12/2009 21:47

3 kids

About £100 each.

Much less than previous years.

SausageRocket · 02/12/2009 21:47

forgot to say mine are 7, 16 & almost 18.

ISawTortoiseFuckingSantaClaus · 02/12/2009 21:50

4 DC, 12, 10, 6 and 5. Around £150 each but i have got quite a bit 2nd hand so actual spend is less but i work it on what the items would have cost not what they did cost. And i have been buying bits for a few months now.
I tend to over buy because they will only get things from me. (Oh and XP1 will buy for his DS's but keeps the things he buys at his mums)

Well dd is getting a laptop which is about £400+ before I even add up the rest of the things. Hers will easily top about £600.

Ds is getting a ds lite console and again with other bits and bobs, probably in the region of about £300.

We too don't have many rellies, it is mainly just us giving them gifts.

BexieID · 02/12/2009 22:12

Have spent around £100 on Tom (3.7) and that was 2 wooden train sets from ebay 2nd hand, 2nd hand spinning top plus a few new things. Expecting DC2 xmas day so if bubs does come, have bought the BHS xmas bear. Bought the one 4 years ago when I was pregnant with Tom and he had that on his first xmas.

My parents got Tom a new bed (car one) for b/day/xmas and PIL have a present and are giving money for his CTF, as are BIL/SIL.

snala · 02/12/2009 22:13

Ds1(23 months) about £120.

Ds2 (4 monhs) about £60 and £60 into his bank account.

Didnt set a budget really, just got bits i thought they would like.

snala · 02/12/2009 22:14

CybilLiberty · 02/12/2009 22:15

About £70 max per child, we ahve 3 and I would rather spend more on their birthday

thatsnotmymonster · 02/12/2009 22:20

We have 3 and are spending about £100 each on the older 2 (4 and 3) as they are getting bikes that I bought 2nd hand on ebay for about £50 each. DS is also getting hotwheels £20 and stocking and dd1 is also getting baby chou chou (£15) from ebay and stocking.

dd2 who is 19mth is getting a baby chou chou from ebay and stocking.

They will get quite a lot from family too.
