Christmas breakfast

Do you do anything special for breakfast on Christmas day?

We didn't as kids but I would like to start some kind of tradition for us as a family[saddo smiley]

Not really sure what to do though that isn't too time consuming.

Thanks.

Pancakes? You can make the batter the night before and keep it in the fridge. I'd do them with blueberries in the batter and serve with fried bananas and maple syrup.

thereistheball · 30/11/2009 08:04

I mean the thick American-style pancakes btw - you will need a small pan for them. A blini pan is ideal.

FrostyBaubles · 30/11/2009 08:07

We always have bacon butties with tomato ketchup & a glass of bucks fizz for the adults & orange juice & lemonade for ds.

Kayzr · 30/11/2009 08:15

Bacon butties sound really nice. So do the pancakes. Might have to see what DH thinks.

I've never made thick pancakes, are they easy to make?

croissant and scrambled egg with smoked salmon through it. washed down by bucks fizz. yum!

RupertTheBear · 30/11/2009 08:33

When I was little we always had slices of the Christmas ham with lovely fresh bread and cups of tea. Anythibng else seems odd to me - but DH thought I was mad when I suggested continuing the tradition (he was brought up with cereal and toast on Xmas day). We compromised on slices of ham with scrambled eggs and English muffins with Bucks Fizz (and a cup of tea).

mumoverseas · 30/11/2009 08:34

when I was young we always had marmite on toast. Nice and quick so we could get on with the pressies.

Over recent years we've had bacon and brie baguettes but can't have them this year as can't get bacon where we are
Can't have pigs in blankets either on christmas day

Damm it, shut up about the bucks fizz, can't have THAT either

BecauseImWorthIt · 30/11/2009 08:35

Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, with Champagne and freshly squeezed orange juice is our usual treat.

At my dad's, we have sometimes had scallops wrapped in bacon.

Kayzr · 30/11/2009 08:39

I don't like smoked salmon but DH loves it so we could do the scrambled eggs and I can have ham as we always make one to take to my Mums.

We always have porridge, with a half capful of (irish)whiskey poured over, brown sugar and cream. The children don't have the whiskey though!

KEAWYED · 30/11/2009 11:52

We have Proper Pork pies from the butchers, bread and butter and pickles.

My DH thought it very strange at first but has soon come round to the idea.

nickelbabe · 30/11/2009 11:56

breakfast on christmas day???

isn't it just chocolate and biscuits from the stockings you've just unwrapped?
or is that just my family?

muddleduck · 30/11/2009 11:57

We always just have toast so that we can all have it together in our bed as soon as all the stocking presents have been unwrapped.

Keawyed - are you a midlander? the only family I know who had pork pie for Christmas breakfast said it was an old black country tradition.

We have toasted brioche and Apricot Jam and if I can get it they often have mandarin or clementine juice inthe shops at Christmas.

smee · 30/11/2009 12:02

nickel, I'm with you - my Mum swears by Chocolate Brazils..

Peachy · 30/11/2009 12:03

Ready to bake croissants.

Bucks fizz absolutely, pineapple juice for the boys.

Nothing too heavy as we break the lunch down- 'starter' at mid day when they would normally eat, then main at dinner time.

jemart · 30/11/2009 12:04

Bacon sandwiches! yum.

KEAWYED · 30/11/2009 12:12

Originally but now in the North.

I don't know anyone else who does it.

sockmonkey · 30/11/2009 12:12

Proper Kelloggs Cocoa pops are the tradition here. We have to make do with value stuff normally, so it's a nice treat.... and get's the chocolate buzz in nice & early.

Kayzr · 30/11/2009 12:14

I am really tempted by bacon sandwiches. My DH would love the pork pie for breakfast.

Sherry. Large glass, nay...pint of.

Washed down with any chocolate that happens to be lying around. Good nutritional start to the day.

CherryChristmasEveryone · 30/11/2009 14:26

scrambled duck eggs on posh toast, croissants and pain-au-chocolat, bucks fizz, orange juice and posh coffee
