Christmas breakfast

Do you do anything special for breakfast on Christmas day?

We didn't as kids but I would like to start some kind of tradition for us as a family[saddo smiley]

Not really sure what to do though that isn't too time consuming.

Thanks.

Danish.

DH and I make a big pork pie (about 10in diameter) for Xmas day breakfast. Proper Hot Water Crust Pastry and everything. The recipe we used last year was in English Food and was very good - not too difficult/time consuming.

The pie is then eaten with bucks fizz; with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs to follow :-)

oldraver · 30/11/2009 15:16

When I lived at home we always had croissants fresh coffee orange juice and Bucks Fizz. For a few years I did a huge fruit salad, with as well served with cream.

JaneiteMightBite · 30/11/2009 19:33

We have croissants, pain au chocolate, melon etc. And pots and pots of coffee.

JaneiteMightBite · 30/11/2009 19:33

Dp would love the idea of pork pie for breakfast - must not show him this thread!

Angelsus · 30/11/2009 19:46

we have pancakes, bacon and maple syrup...lovely! All washed down with some bucks fizz.

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 30/11/2009 19:51

We used to pick up the kids and run through the living room which is in darkness at the spped of light so they dont get too distracted by their presents then dont allow them back in until they have eaten all their usual cereals. We also forbid any early risers from gettign up and going down before 8am. People have been alarmed at this in the past so last year we relaxed the rules and had those scotch pancakes - they left bits everywhere but we had to hoover after the wrapping paper bits everywhere anyway and it worked well. This year as were not travelling out the house we will also have 9am bucks fizzo.

Northernlurker · 30/11/2009 19:53

WEll I've already bought the bucks fizz and am mulling over some scambled eggs and bacon.....or Nigella's christmas muffins.....or a sausage sandwich?

Tidey · 30/11/2009 19:54

I agree with nickel and smee. A selection box is just the right amount of food to keep you going until Christmas dinner

HellBent · 30/11/2009 19:54

I'm with nickel, I only stopped having selection boxes for breakfast when I moved in with DP! Mum and Dad didn't mind as long as we had the orange and apple that came in the stocking too!

Goober · 30/11/2009 19:56

I make These before christmas and freeze them.

Greensleeves · 30/11/2009 19:57

we have croissants, brioches, chocolate spread and apricot jam

and bucks fizz

it's the same brekkie we have on holiday (minus the bucks fizz) and the boys have got really attached to it as a "special occasion breakfast", so no point varying it

Salmon and Eggs here, with Bucks Fizz, yummy

AmazingBouncingFerret · 30/11/2009 20:03

We are going to have boiled eggs and toast soldiers. Washed down with a nice cup of tea.

nappyzone when we were younger my parents used to stop us from going downstairs too early by telling us all the presents would disappear. We were still half believing this when we were all adults and still living at home!

CakeBuddy · 30/11/2009 20:11

I second the scrambled egg and smoked salmon, deliciously tasty and nice and light - but make sure you don't have too much toast with it, as it'll ruin your appetite for yummy christmas dinner!

Plus of course the glass of bubbly, not that I'll be enjoying that particular tradition as 20-something weeks pregnant with triplets!

Bacon sandwiches with brown sauce!!!

Kayzr · 30/11/2009 20:41

We'll certainly be having bucks fizz. I love it and it seems to be a favourite.

It's between bacon sandwiches and scrambled egg and ham/salmon.

we'll either have croissants or pancakes with maple syrup. i very much like to have bacon with my pancakes and maple syrup but Christmas mornings can be such a rush to get out to church (dh is minister and always suddenly needs me to fill a prop box for an impromptu nativity 10 mins before we leave!! maybe this year I'll have box filled and ready to go!).

JaneiteMightBite · 30/11/2009 21:24

Am I the only one who doesn't like Bucks Fizz? It's a waste of good orange juice, as far as I'm concerned. Would far rather wait until later for port and lemon or Baileys (I sound like my nan!).

teameric · 30/11/2009 21:27

bacon sarnies, and lots of choccie biscuits

MarthaFarquhar · 30/11/2009 21:28

chocolate coins and champagne

sandyballs · 30/11/2009 21:34

Croissants and bucks fizz for me and dh. Their choice from those little packs of mini cereals for the DD's.

I'm just praying they don't get up at 3.30am this year.

tassisssss · 30/11/2009 21:53

JMB, i'm not a huge fan of BF for breakfast either...come lunchtime maybe!
