NO to colour schemes. Christmas is kitsch per se. Rejoice in mismatched baubles.

borderslass · 29/11/2009 09:32

don't have a theme for tree it was red and gold for years now anything sparkly
my table was red tablecloth and poinsettia mats for years now its gold with swirls on

GypsyMoth · 29/11/2009 09:59

I like the contemporary stuff around at the moment

Having spent since September religiously decluttering and then re decorating I want it all matching and looking good.

Hot pink, hot orange, lime green, turquoise, in fact anything bright. Have been doing this for a few years and have quite a collection. I'm making matching crackers from bright wrapping paper, on a plain white/crystal/silver table.

ninedragons · 29/11/2009 10:08

Silver and gunmetal.

Can't stand green and red together.

Marne · 29/11/2009 10:19

We are having x-mas day away this year but i like the idea of black and silver.

BelleDameSansMerci · 29/11/2009 10:25

FritesMenthe - love the sound of yours.

My table will be white/red.
Tree is white/gold.
DD's tree is riot of mismatched horrors!

Bonsoir · 29/11/2009 10:35

My tree decorations are principally pink/gold/white with mainly flower and bird decorations and a lot of LED lights.

My table is going to be red, gold, green and white, but not at all traditional - I've got a Lisa Corti Indian block print table cloth and napkins and Astier de Villatte plates.

Bonsoir · 29/11/2009 10:36

And I've been collecting twinkly Indian wrapping papers for a while now - so will have multi-coloured twinkly parcels!

TinyPawz · 29/11/2009 11:37

In my house, green tree with red, purple and silver decorations & silver beads but multi coloured lights (need extra colours)

Tablecloths start out with red ones then as DD (and me) spill, the purple & silver ones

We recently moved and the new house has a little mini landing before you get to the bedrooms but you can see it from the front door so there is going to be a small blac tree with the leftover decorations, red beads and white lights.

flicking though a magazine during the year there was an article about 'different' xmas displays and there was the gorgeous idea.....lots & lots of xmas wreaths on a single display wall. I have been collecting cheap & cheerful wreaths ever since.

teameric · 29/11/2009 11:44

My tree theme is purple, turquoise, pink, orange and gold with pearl garlands, I love my tree .

cherrymonster · 29/11/2009 12:35

my tree theme is black, white, pink and silver.
my table is black, white and silver

JaneiteMightBite · 29/11/2009 13:13

No theme for the tree: it is a total hotch-potch, which is the way I think trees should be.

The table has white cloth, white china, plain glasses and (usually) white rose buds, with silver crackers. This year I'm thinking of perhaps having gold crackers and gold coins against the white. I don't like lots of fuss and frippery on a table and I do like white - but think I'd like to warm it up a bit.

biscuitbear · 29/11/2009 13:27

My tree theme this year will be chartreuse green/yellow with purple and gold. Hurray!

I'm not organised enough to have a table theme but will give it some thought.

jemart · 29/11/2009 13:29

red & gold

jennifersofia · 29/11/2009 13:33

But ladies, where do you put all the garish lovely decorations that your dc's make?

Earlybird · 29/11/2009 13:52

Our tree is a mixture of a bit of everything. Lights are small/white, and ornaments all colours. Have quite a few with shiny/sparkly silver trim, and others made of glass (little hummingbirds and bees mainly) that look lovely placed in front of tree lights so that it shines through. Once ornaments are on, finish tree with ribbon garland in either deep crimson/plum or a wheat/gold. Also have a gorgeous pleated crimson velvet cloth that goes around base of tree that has tiny golden seed pearl accents sewn on

Dining table has a white cloth. Then have glass reindeer with silver antlers, and heavy crystal Christmas trees. I have some small, low, single flower heavy glass bud vases with some holly with red berries in them. Then arrange some small votive candles in clear glass holders. Also weave some greenery into the iron chandelier that hangs over dining table. It looks quite beautiful with white, silver, candle light, greenery and red berries.

PrematureEjoculation · 29/11/2009 14:11

purple and gold - very prety flocked, drop, gold wire baubles collected over seveal christmases, gold and purple tinsel. we have garlands in gold foil for the lounge, and purple foil snowflakes.

for the kitchen i wanted multicoloured retro-paper garlands but haven't bought them yet as don't want to spend £10 on sth i don't need.

think i will cave in in the end, they do come out every year....

MissGreatBritain · 29/11/2009 17:37

Table - red, white and gold.
Tree - 70s monstrosity of multi-coloured lights, home-made decorations, mis-matched baubles and lots of tinsel.
Rest of the house - whatever's left! Would love to have lots of natural-looking swags of pine, holly etc as we have an old house, but I just don't seem to have the flair for that sort of thing unfortunately.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 29/11/2009 17:40

Our tree is a gold, warm brown and not-brash teal. Shall do something similar for the table, though we are not hosting dinner here.

oldraver · 29/11/2009 19:39

Tree is green and the decorations are mostly gold coloured, well pressed brass ones with a smattering of red fabric type ones. I also have a few Crown Derby china decorations that are multi coloured but look fine. My Mum and DS decorated it this year and DS insisted on tinsel which he has put on haphazardly. I dont really do uniform though

Ds has his own fibre optic with a few of my old Mickey decorations on and some new small sweet dough figures. I have bought him each year a Christmas Disney soft toy but this years is not nice so he chose a snow globe

teafortwo · 29/11/2009 19:56

We just do our fireplace. The theme is red, white and a bit of gold here and there. Most of our decs are wooden and probably made by elves...

andirobobo · 29/11/2009 22:27

Tablecloth is white with silver stars - so usually go for silver crackers (not that we are allowed to pull them as DD doesnt like the noise!!) China is blue (our general set as we have limited storage space and I dont like having a 'best' set as it would never be used!!)

Tree is a green tree with silver, pale blue, pink and mauve decorations. The kids home made ones all go towards the back . Mainly baubles with large ones at bottom.

I hate tinsel!!

DD has her own tree for her room - garish colours!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/11/2009 22:38

blue red gold green and silver

Peachy · 30/11/2009 12:41

Am thinking about black, white and silver

DH thinks it is a waste of time bothering though so have to prove it isn't by doing nicely.

have a pop up tree [bloush] that is ready decorated to save DH time with lights etc. Am married to a blinkin lighting design specialist, go figure .
