For a few of the adults that are hard to buy for (they're all 25-35) I am making up sweets in a jar, the kind of sweets we all ate as children and loved but don't buy/can't buy now. Would anyone mind looking at the list below and telling me what you loved and i've left off?!

I am going to put a few of each sweet into each jar so that they won't end up with lots of the same and I think there needs to be lots of different things.

  • Sherbet pips
  • fish n chips
  • black jack
  • fruit salad
  • chocolate cups
  • rhubarb and custard
  • foam strawberries
  • foam mushrooms
  • gobstoppers
  • shrimps
  • fizz whizz (popping candy)
  • candy whistle
  • drumstick
  • milk bottles
  • cola bottles
  • fizzers
  • gum bears
  • wham bars
  • pear drops
  • candy letters
  • highland toffee bar

TIA

Lesley79 · 30/11/2009 13:50

I have used a great website in the past to send retro sweets to friends all lovely and gift wrapped....

www.sweetselection.co.uk

nappyaddict · 30/11/2009 14:06

Pineapple cubes are disgusting.

Kola cubes, cherry lips, white mice, snowies, lemon sherbets, sherbet powder (kali?), strawberry bon bons, refresher bars, irn bru bars, parma violets, black jacks and fruit jacks i think the ones in the yellow packet were called.

nappyaddict · 30/11/2009 14:19

Flying saucers
Strawberry laces
Strawberry and apple pencil things
Aniseed balls
Dip-dab
Foam hearts, eggs, shrimps, bananas
Caramac
Crunch
Spangles
Snakes
Giant jelly strawberries
False teeth
Those red and black jelly sweets that looked like berries
Toffos
Double dip
Choc dips
Those chocolate covered pretzels
There was a fizzy rectangle sweet I rememember and they came in a foil packet i think individually wrapped but I can't remember the name.

bebejones · 30/11/2009 15:55

Apple Jacks (yum)
Millions (we used to eat these in secret in maths as they were small enough not to be noticed, the strawberry ones are nicest)

Wigeon · 30/11/2009 17:00

Someone help me identify these: they were tiny little irregular shaped balls of solid candy-type stuff, lurid colours (like green and pink), came in a little cardboard packet with two compartments (one for the lurid green, other for the lurid pink), tasted kind of sour. You poured them out of the packed into your hand (or directly into your mouth ).

Am 30 so they are quite retro but not really very...

What are they called?!

Eddas · 30/11/2009 17:27

NERDS

they were on my list but as they're in a box I didn't think I should put them in. I'm 31 and LOVED them too

I really ought to get out more

AboardtheAxiom · 30/11/2009 17:29

wigeon do you mean millions? Think they did a sour mix at one point?

This thread has me drooling!

I have a major sweet tooth and loved
bonbons, sweet peanut, milk bottles (the powdery ones not the sweaty jellies you get now), fangs, chewing nuts (they weren't even nutty!), sherbet dips, sports mixture, chocolate mice, hubba bubba, black jacks, fruit salad, strawberry laces, icecream or banana flavour chewitts, highland toffee, millions (loads of sweets for your quarter!) bonfire toffee lollies in a little flat round foil dish. mmmmmm......
