do you just let them get up whenever?
do you tell them an acceptable time (and is it any earlier than your normal regular time?
and will you march them back to bed if they get up earlier than that?

so far, normal time - which is around 7am.

DoubleBluff · 23/12/2008 17:30

they were up at 6.30 last year which I didnt mind as I can remember getting up at 4 am one year when i was a kid

MoMoMoMeeeeryChristmas · 23/12/2008 17:30

Once they are older, you will reap the rewards. DD is 13 and last year on Christmas morning, she got up, made us a cup of tea and a bacon sarnie and then came to tell us that Father Christmas had been!

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 23/12/2008 17:31

normal time for us is 7 on a school day and sometimes we touch 8 on a weekend

I'm thinking that telling dd1 (8) not to come in till 7.30

unless the littlies wake up

I suspect they wil get up at usual time.

bollockbrainASSofBETHLEHEM · 23/12/2008 17:32

around 6 am, although i have heard footsteps at 3.15 before which was a little too early IMO

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 23/12/2008 17:33

which is darksome??

OP posts:
TheFallenMadonna · 23/12/2008 17:33

I woke mine up at 8.30 last year! Can't see that happening again...

I think we will probably have a 7am rule.

AaliyahsFirstXmas · 23/12/2008 17:33

I'm quite happy anytime after 5 but DP thinks it should be at least 8am!! I got up one year at 4am with my parents and if DD REALLY can't wait any longer then i'll prob accept that.

DarksomeNight · 23/12/2008 17:34

Hello trinity About 7 to 730 ish. DD1 sometimes a bit earlier

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 23/12/2008 17:34

aaliyah, how old is your dd??

I dont think you should all start yolur day at 4am
you will all be knackered before lunch

OP posts:
DarksomeNight · 23/12/2008 17:35

Gosh if they were old enough to give a time I would say not before 7 I think.

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 23/12/2008 17:35

darksome, well thats not too bad eh?

AaliyahsFirstXmas · 23/12/2008 17:35

She's only 11 months so don't have to worry this year.

Ahhh see but the tradition is that we all have a nap in the afternoon while the turkey is cooking then get up full of energy.
Oh and we HAVE to go to bed at 5:45pm - another of my traditions, watch a xmas film in bed and go to sleep early.

DarksomeNight · 23/12/2008 17:36

No not too bad at all. You are trinityrhino aren't you, I used to be Bandofmothers. DD2 gave me torturous first 2 yrs getting up at crack of dawn. I remember yawning in the teashop with you She is much better now, since she hit 2 yo, thank heavens.

annaje · 23/12/2008 17:36

From past experience, it was normal time (6.30 - 7.30 ish). I would tell them to go back to bed if it was before 6.30. We tend to put them to bed a bit later as we go out to dinner on xmas eve (and this year we are going ice-skating at Bluewater too).

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 23/12/2008 17:37

5.45pm on xmas night?
or xmas eve?

if xmas eve, that sounds like a good plan

Coldtits · 23/12/2008 17:37

Mine can't get up before 8 this year, as this is the earliest I can be back froom work

The ex is stopping over so he is going to give them breakfast in their room (and we will set up a special picnic table in there at night, and do a 'santa' breakfast of cookie crisp cereal with pink milk)

I feel so guilty but there's no way round it. I have to work.

AaliyahsFirstXmas · 23/12/2008 17:37

xmas eve! ALWAYS!

I've done it since I was 5 and DD will do it with me. DP doesn't approve but BAH HUMBUG!

DuffyMoon · 23/12/2008 17:39

1.45 am is the best we had this was met with a grumpily hissed "NO HE HASNT BEEN" then I couldn't sleep because I felt guilty at being mean

DarksomeNight · 23/12/2008 17:40

Don't feel bad silly, it's not like you have to work all day.

Anyway can he keep them up a bit and then they might only just be up when you get back, or would that be too much trouble.

How's the job going anyway??

TheInvisibleManDidItWithSanta · 23/12/2008 17:43

Last year ds1 was up at 0530, and woke ds2.

Ds2 told me a couple of weeks ago he's feeling worried about christmas, because you have to get up early. (ds2 is very fond of his bed)

We normally send them to bed early on christmas eve, but I think this year we'll let them stay up late, so hopefully ds1 will sleep a bit longer than last year.

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 23/12/2008 17:51

anyone else?

OP posts:
muggglewump · 23/12/2008 18:01

Around 9ish which is early for DD. She slept till 12.15 last Sunday!

She's like me and not a morning person at all but can stay up till the early hours no problem.

Coldtits · 23/12/2008 18:11

it's going fine! One of my colleagues is a whingebag, she's slagged off every single member of staff in the place, so at 4 in the morning it's all I can to not to tell her to stick a carrot up her arse.

Putting them to bed late won't work on Ds2, he'll get up before 7 anyway. But luckily he can't open that stairgate yet!
