Anyone else spending tomorow baking all day?

I have three lots of baking to do: mince pies, gingerbread biscuits in christmas shapes, and chocolate brownies in christmas muffin cases.

Some are for us, some are for friends, and some are for our local shopkeepers (tradition that the kids walk around the block offering treats to all the shopkeepers we know and love).

Anyone else baking tomorow?

MissisBoot · 19/12/2008 19:59

I'm icing the cake - may attempt biscuits if the weather is bad!

MarkTheHeraldAngelsStretch · 19/12/2008 20:06

I've got sausage rolls to make, a Christmas cake to ice, fudge to make and Rocky Road.

starbear · 19/12/2008 20:19

If I get up early I might make ginger biscuits

madamekoto · 19/12/2008 20:21

Gingerbread muffins and just for breakfast!

AdvocaatSlubberdegullion · 19/12/2008 20:27

I baked all day yesterday. Shall I tell you what I made?

Well I'm going to, whether you want to hear it or not.

I made yesterday:

50 rum truffles (25 cocoaed, 50 sprinkly bits)

12 of nigellas christmas fairy cakes, which I iced artfully

24 normal fairy cakes that I iced in a standard fashion but with a sugarcraft snowflake on the top

12 stained glass window biscuits

1 christmas cake iced and adorned

1 chip butty (eaten).

Someone better come and say "ooooh slubbers, you are amazing, and not in a sarky manner thank you. I was impressed with myself even if I do say so myself or however the saying goes.

mrstimlovejoy · 19/12/2008 20:29

i've got to make choc chip shortbread, rocky road, truffles, choc log and ice xmas cake.

expatinscotland · 19/12/2008 20:30

Me!

Weather is going to be dire so a good excuse to stay in with the girls and bake.

chai biscuits
mincemeat biscuits
mincemeat pies
brownies
fairy cakes

I'll take the turkey out of the freezer on Sunday.

vesela · 19/12/2008 21:21

I'm supposedly making:

mini apple pies (instead of mince pies)
Dundee cake (as Christmas cake)
more gingerbread

However, I'm also spending all day tidying up (parents arriving on Sunday).

and oooh slubbers, you are amazing. Truly.

DumbledoresGirl · 19/12/2008 21:23

Me.

I have to make a birthday cake for ds2 whose birthday it is on Sunday.

So I might as well make the things I have promised to take to my mother's for Christmas: sausage rolls, small cakes and a large chocolate cake. I have already made 24 mince pies.

AdvocaatSlubberdegullion · 19/12/2008 21:24

Well thank you vesela

expat what are chai biscuits?

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 19/12/2008 21:24

No I'm doing mine with the children Mon-Wed next week as dp is in work until Christmas eve and I need to occupy them. I've never made mince pies from scratch before can someone please stick a recipe on here for me for mincemeat and the pastry please. I would google but I think i've got the lurgy and am feeling very delicate!

PortAndStilton · 19/12/2008 21:24

That was the plan. But instead I'm probably going to have to devote most of the day to getting hold of the Christmas tree that was supposed to be delivered today. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

DumbledoresGirl · 19/12/2008 21:26

I like the sound of chocolate chip shortbread. Any chance of the recipe or is it literally ordinary shortbread with chocolate chips thrown in?

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 19/12/2008 21:27

I'm also planning to make that Rocky Road that nigella made the other night, it looks easy but very satisfying!

DeadTall · 19/12/2008 21:35

Yes - making dd's birthday cake for Monday! Plus rocky road, xmas muffins (to freeze and produce with a flourish on Xmas morning!!!), & chocolate cookies. Next week is Rick Stein's terrine (which is delicious and worth the extra effort, even if it means a special trip to the butcher's for items I only ever buy for this recipe) and possibly a spiced ham. And I said I would only use ready made stuff this year... I blame Nigella for making me believe it's all toooo easy. Fortunately the family has low expectations so I can only impress!!!

BTW, what a lovely idea to give treats to local shopkeepers. If only we all lived in such close communities.

Merry Xmas!

AdvocaatSlubberdegullion · 19/12/2008 21:39

Tomorrow I will be doing x2 nigella coca-cola hams, a lamb tagine, cranberry sauce and if I have time icing the 8th (and final, thank the Lord) Christmas cake.

It's not really baking but I want to continue to brag share.

ninah · 19/12/2008 21:43

no

bramblebooks · 19/12/2008 21:51

tomorrow I will be mainly cooking bread rolls, peanut brittle, something cakey and I'll be flipping out a few crumpets too.

mistersmum · 20/12/2008 10:15

Ds has gone off to the inlaws, but he was up at 5.30 so have done two batches of mince pies, put the marzipan on the cake, cooked DH a cooked breakfast (Christmas party yesterday!) and checked over my lists for the rest of the day - off to make yummy choc cheesecake to put in the freezer...and prob ginger biscuits for the tree this afternoon when DS comes home all wound up from grandma and grandpas! Have fun one and all

bramblebooks · 20/12/2008 10:18

hope all baking is going well. Thinking about drafting in slubber to make ds1's birthday cake for Tues, but haven't practised running away fast for ages so she might catch me and clobber me with her rolling pin.

Time for peanut brittle.

bringonthemulledwine · 20/12/2008 10:29

If you cook a ham how long will it last in the fridge? In our house, not long, but if it was hidden can I do it now for Christmas - I am rubbish at things like that!

mumeeee · 20/12/2008 18:07

DD2 19 has just made a Christmas cake. Yes I know it's a bit late but she wanted to make one.

swanriver · 20/12/2008 19:12

How do you keep your children occupied whilst baking? I find I start, and then am interrupted when folding eggwhites etc or worse they run off with the ingredients and eat them. Does everyone on this thread have older sobrietious children?
