how do you do it?

I've had all manner of card holders over the years and hated them all so much that I've got rid of them striaght after Christmas. I can't afford to spend a fortune on card holders, but want to put the cards up........

So how do you display yours?

I'm tempted to get some blue tack and just randomly stick them to the walls

string

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 15/12/2008 06:18

but how do you stop the string fall down??

I've got lots of string - but I can just see them doing what my window lights did earlier today (well yesterday) - falling down after they've been up for 1/2hrs

I've got mine blu-tacked to the door of the cupboard under the stairs.

As I type this I realise you were looking for a somewhat classier solution...

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 15/12/2008 06:20

classy?????

Sorry think you've got the wrong person .

I suppose I could do the blutacking to the dining room door (again). Just not sure we're going to have as many as previous years, plus we have panelled doors and it gets really awkward on the grooves lol

drawing pin holds the string and its not gell down.

used to use cellotape and tape cards to a door. - it fucks up the paint

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 15/12/2008 06:24

drawing pins? Into what - the walls???

Don't have painted doors

have curtain in front of the door. this year am experimenting with pinning the cards to the curtain. usually blutak to the double door and side of staircase - then tghey fall off and I get frustrated!

Tortington · 15/12/2008 07:04

no into wood, door frame, bottom or a mirrow etc etc.

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 15/12/2008 07:05

oo doesn't that leave lots and lots of little holes in your doors and mirror frames??

OP posts:
goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 15/12/2008 07:06

duh - ignore - you pin the string into the wood, not each card

OP posts:
Tommy · 15/12/2008 08:03

we blu tack them to the picture rails

ClausImWorthIt · 15/12/2008 08:09

I use sellotape and stick them along the edges of our book shelves.

Looks festive and keeps the clutter out of the way!

TipsyFairydifferentID · 15/12/2008 08:10

we use the string and pin method

SammyK · 15/12/2008 08:12

we do string and drawing pins too, our string has been up 3 years now

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 15/12/2008 08:13

hmm - might try the string and pim method - although not sure the "pinable" areas are long enough to fitall the card

Used to put backs of cards between books on bookcase.

Now we have got lickle string thing from wilks, tied onto nails acrss the hearth. It has mini clothes pegs on it, you can overlap a lot of cards on one short string.

TipsyFairydifferentID · 15/12/2008 08:16

then you double string it. Put a slightly longer length of string right next to the pins on the outside of the first ones.

crazyloon1 · 15/12/2008 08:16

We have our cards overlapped so pegs are only about 2" apart - fits LOADS. Better than end to end hung over string iyswim. 99p bargain.

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 15/12/2008 08:16

but in my defense I have been wide awake all night

BellsCarolsNSleighs · 15/12/2008 08:18

we also use the string and pin method.. I pin into the corners of the ceilings

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 15/12/2008 08:21

Bells - I have high ceilings - think cards up their would no only be highly inconvinient II've already delayed putting the ceiling decorations up as it's such a bugger up the ladder getting to the corners) but slightly odd too.

Think I'll definitely go with string and pin.........if someone wuld be so kind as to explain "double string" to me

OP posts:
TipsyFairydifferentID · 15/12/2008 08:21

you put up one string
then on the outside of those pins you put a second, longer string so that it hangs lower on the wall

LadyPenelope · 15/12/2008 08:24

On ribbon hanging down the wall from pictures etc.

  1. Get roll of festive coloured ribbon (either proper ribbon or the wrapping up ribbon) approx 1 inch wide.
  1. Take picture off wall, tie ribbon in knot to back of picture wire, centre on the wire and hang picture back up.
  1. Ribbon will now be hanging down from behind picture down to floor. Cut ribbon at floor level (at skirting board.)
  1. Using stapler, staple each of the cards to the ribbon, leaving a small gap between so you see the ribbon. (I stick the front and back of card with a bit of blue tack so they stay closed.)
  1. Put bit of blue tack at bottom of ribbon to keep it flush against wall.

Looks really festive and easy to take down at end of year. If you want you can take cards off ribbon and keep for next year!
