how do you do it?

I've had all manner of card holders over the years and hated them all so much that I've got rid of them striaght after Christmas. I can't afford to spend a fortune on card holders, but want to put the cards up........

So how do you display yours?

I'm tempted to get some blue tack and just randomly stick them to the walls

I actually use rolls of gold sequin offcuts instead of ribbon

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 15/12/2008 08:33

well I only have 2 small pictures on the walls

ah I use the picture rail thingy

so actually I don't really do what she does do I?

one day it will snap off though, it always feels wobbly...

no picture rails either (god I'm awkward aren't I ) - just proper original coving in the lounge half of the room (high up) and horrible cheap coving on the dining room part (which also looks nothing like the original - you'd have thought they could a little more to make it match

no pictures, no picture rail will certainly make things more difficult for this method...

I'd go for the string and drawing pins method - you won't be able to see tiny hole when you bring it down, or at least we never used to notice it... was more the spiders webs that drew attention to the corners of the room...

Or do what my very minimalist mum does - put them all in a pile and only display the "nice" ones!!

yes lack of pictures and picture rails would make it rather tricky. I have been planning to get some pictures to go on the walls, but I don't really see the point getting any now until I move as knowing my luck there'll not be enough space on the walls to put them .

I shall go for the pin and strings method on the wooden frame "arch" that splits the room into two sections, I have string............ahh but no drawing pins

In the sitting room we have string across the beam then use teeny pegs to hang cards up.

In dds rooms they have lengths of ribbon hanging and we staple cards to that.

Both are held up with drawing pins.
No probs with holes.

harpsiheraldangelssing · 15/12/2008 08:57

string tied to some wall lamps
(HC realises this is probably a terrible fire hazard, somewhat belatedly)

lou33 · 15/12/2008 09:05

mine are stuck on the glass panels on my living room door with sellotape

ilove · 15/12/2008 09:08

I bluetac them all over the hallway...looks lovely

CharleeInPantoPaperChains · 15/12/2008 09:10

I got a thing from Tesco its some silver thread and some tiny silver clothes pegs we have it strung along the hall with the cards pegged to it. The string is pinned into the door frames.

oysterpots · 15/12/2008 12:37

do you have a pinboard? I'm wrapping my pinboard in wrapping paper, using drawing pins to put the cards up and hanging a few baubles and bits and bobs from it as well. It'll just be hanging around in the kitchen somewhere probably so as not to interfere with the reset of my minimalist decrations

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 15/12/2008 12:47

no - I don't have a pin board either

I sort them broadly by colour and then staple them together to make a picture/collage about 18" x 18", not sure the size just seems to work itself out.

Then I staple two ends of a piece of ribbon about a quarter of the way in from each side and hang them on a picture hook.

Obviously I can't do this until I've got quite a few cards so none get displayed until then, they just sit in a pile on the side.

wilbur · 15/12/2008 13:02

I staple them to each other in long strings (corner to corner) and hang them from the banisters.

dearprudence · 15/12/2008 13:04

Ah, the Christmas Card problem. I've done the string and pin method but I'm a bit short of wall space. Sticking to back of doors is fine but after while it all starts to feel a bit too cluttered.

Have just invested in a pyramid-shaped stand thing from Lakeland - it sits on the floor and you pop the cards in and.. lo and behold... you create a sort of Christmas tree out of cards. Am very pleased with it so far.

snowleopard · 15/12/2008 13:10

Nails high up in the corners of the walls - they are there permanently, you don't notice them. At christmas we string up lengths of that narrow metallic wrapping ribbon stuff between the nails and hang the cards on it.
