Or am I being pedantic?

Yes he is, it's all an insult to her Brittanic majesty from those pesky tax-dodging colonials. They'll be demanding the vote next and THEN where will we be?

merrylissiemas · 10/12/2008 20:19

tis father christmas here (shropshire) but i do hear a lot of santa's. in fact ds says santa. tis obviously a sign that we, as a nation, are evolving into america (posthumously of course)

's okay, Buda, we know you are on our side against that Father bloody Christmas lot over the border.

HeadFairy · 10/12/2008 20:41

I have a foggy memory of hearing somewhere that Santa Claus a corruption of Sinta Klaus, which is Dutch and was taken to the States by the Pilgrims many of whom were native Dutch speakers.

HeadFairy · 10/12/2008 20:41

But I say Pere Noel......

if I'm being pretentious

BellaKissedSanta · 10/12/2008 20:42

Oh ffs don't bring the thodding Dutch into it...

BellaKissedSanta · 10/12/2008 20:43

In my premenstrual state that would be suicide.

Shitemum · 10/12/2008 20:43

Another Scot and another Santa...

JamInMyWellies · 10/12/2008 20:44

Santa in my household and its turnip too. Born and mostly brought up in Scotland. Moved down south as teenager had a job in Waitrose and lord knows how many people must have been totally confused when I out their supposed swedes through as turnips.

DP thinks my family are all bonkers Scots but even he now concedes to Santa and turnip.

HeadFairy · 10/12/2008 20:48

sorry about that bella... have a chunk from me

bitofasnowqueen · 10/12/2008 20:49

PMSL at debate on Santa discussing turnip vs swede. Santa and turnip here - another vote from Scotland.

BellaKissedSanta · 10/12/2008 20:49

Your link ne marche pas, headfairy.

Dommage.

Ah bathsheba, my dear departed dad was from Aberdeen and he too used to call him Sunty. But only in a piss-taking imitation of his own Aberdonian roots (I grew up in deep Father Christmas territory); and of course, being Aberdonians, they were very quick to disabuse me of any nonsensical notion I might have had that he actually EXISTS.

ScottishMummy · 10/12/2008 20:51

well i always think of turnip as orange root veg neeps best served mashed not that white interloper

HeadFairy · 10/12/2008 20:52

Je m'excuse

merrylissiemas · 10/12/2008 20:52
