takeaway as dh working (it'll be a long day he'll leave at 4.45am and if I;m lucky he'll be home by 6pm)

Oh, and we normally have sausages (locally produced, organic and very poncy) and mash but in honour of a dear departed friend we are all having ham, egg and chips this year after we have been to church. He would love the fact all of his friends are eating his favorite meal!

Can you do the baked camembert thingie with brie too?

tassisssss · 04/12/2008 20:55

I like to do ham, cream potatoes and red cabbage.

But I think I might do cream pots and red cabbage with Christmas dinner so think we'll have ham and easy veg.

We feed the children when we get back from the crib service and once they are in bed settle down with a gorgeous cheese board, bread and grapes. And of course a bottle (or two) of red wine.

GColdtimer · 04/12/2008 20:59

probably janite, I don't see why not.

nigella's crispy duck and pancakes. duck in oven 5 hours. pancakes from shop, steam 5 mins. jar hoisin, cut up spring onions and cucumber. voila.

janeite · 04/12/2008 21:02

You know, I'm thinking cheese board might be the way to go.

Thanks Twofalls - will give it a try.

Our christmas eve meal revolves around the kids who are too excited to be hungry. So it's a buffet (mini santa face pizzas, sausages, carrot sticks etc with some adulty M&S bits n bobs mised in there too). And I make a yule log. And cava. Some port.

Comma · 05/12/2008 08:56

you CHANGE for MEALS?

musttryharder · 05/12/2008 10:10

Cherryontop.. am liking the ham egg and chips idea! My mum usually comes over and we have something and chips...last year we had bratwurst, year before that schnitzel (I grew up in Germany, dad was in the army)

HolidaysQueen · 05/12/2008 10:15

we're having baked ham with mashed swede/carrot and cauli cheese. Did it last year and have decided it might become our tradition as it was so nice DS will be in bed and it will be just me and DH - time to ourselves before family descends for the rest of Christmas. Plus the ham can then be eaten cold throughout CHristmas - nice with eggs for breakfast and good for suppers, or when you just want something light for lunch like soup and a ham sandwich.
