So who else is getting ridiculously oversentimental about school nativity play?

DS1 is going to be a cow, and his one line in the play is about how the baby Jesus is going to be our saviour. We were having a talk about this last night and I was trying to inspire him to put a bit of enthusiasm into his speech by saying, "just imagine how amazing it would be if you're just an ordinary cow, to have the baby Jesus born in your barn, blah blah", I found myself welling up!! I shall probably be in floods on the actual night!!

I am definitely going to be in floods at the school nativity play .

DS is going to be the innkeeper, and has two lines to say. School has sent home a CD with the children singing the songs for us to practise and just listening to it made me start to well up.

Must remember to take tissues with me .

islandofsodor · 27/11/2008 14:12

I can't beleive that my stage shy son is going to be leading the shepherds on as he is "the only one who knows what he's doing".

Dd has a solo and we have been asked to coach her, the teacher sent the music and everything home as dh is a singing teacher!!!!!!

mabanana · 27/11/2008 14:14

lol at the method acting masterclass BasementBear

ohIdoliketobebesidethe · 27/11/2008 14:14

ridiculously sentimental - over hear.

Dd1 not yet AT school. Had tour yesterday and kids were practicing a nativity song which made me well up.

Has caused me to worry about being preg again...

islandofsodor · 27/11/2008 14:16

Go Stanislavski!!!!!

Tamarto · 27/11/2008 14:17

DS2s class are singing little donkey this year, cue tears

elliott · 27/11/2008 14:17

Oh yes. ds2 has been chosen as the eponymous hero of his school performance! (reception).
Its quite strange to have a child who is one of the 'noticed' ones. All the rest of us in the family are quiet back row supporters!

stayatworkmummy · 27/11/2008 14:18

Totally, dd1 finishes nursery at Christmas and her last day is nativity play, she's a ballerina angel. Will be crying like a baby and ignoring MIL who will probably try and ruin event!

pigleto · 27/11/2008 14:21

Ds is Joseph for the third time (three different schools. I think they pick him because he is tall). I will be especially weepy this year due to personal circumstances. My little star .

um, before I had DC I was a school governor, and used to go to the nativity play each year. I used to cry then, and none of them were mine, so goodness knows how bad I will be when DD starts school

doggiesayswoof · 27/11/2008 16:03

DD is at preschool and will be an angel.

We were talking about it the other day and she told me "I have to walk round the baby Jesus and then say 'it'll soon be Christmas'"

I had to pretend I had something in my eye.

I am crying again typing this.

I am going to really embarrass myself, am I not?

tkband3 · 27/11/2008 16:06

All my 3 girls will be in the nativity this year - DD1 is a shepherd (again!) and DTs, who are in the nursery, will be angels. I must remember to take tissues as I forgot last year and was blubbing with just the one in the play. With all 3 appearing, I shall be in bits .

Lilyloo · 27/11/2008 16:12

pigleto the boy whi is Joseph at ds school is the tallest in the class is that a pre requiste for Joseph then ?

DS is an innkeeper and has a solo i know i will be crying!

Niecie · 27/11/2008 16:19

I find a camera is a good thing to hide behind if you are allowed. I seem to be the only one who wells up with my DSs' school things so I pretend to take a picture.

Having said that, there are a lot of other people with cameras so who knows.

basementbear · 27/11/2008 20:58

I'm afraid our school is one of those ridiculous ones that bans cameras so I shall just have the memories in my head. Luckily our church doesn't, so I still have a hysterical home movie of DS1 as a king in last year's nativity, shoving King No2 out of the way as they approach the nativity scene at front of church, then fiddling with his robes all the way through and jumping up and down at one point. It always has me crying - with laughter

I am overwhelmingly sentimental over the nativity play . DS2 is in reception and is playing a King in his play. They even have to sing (gulp) Away In A Manger....better take a whole box of tissues with me. DS1 is Joseph in the older kids nativity. He has to tell Mary "I love you. Let's get married." He sound so sweet .

futurity · 27/11/2008 21:18

"Away in a manger" always gets me. In fact I generally start sniffing when they welcome everyone by saying "good morning Mrs headteacher...good morning everybody!" in that cute school way that they do!

futurity · 27/11/2008 21:19

and as for DS2 at nursery...well that is just even cuter! (apart from the fighting amongst the parents trying to get to the front row!)

nannyogg · 28/11/2008 07:03

Glad it's not just me. I got a bit emotional When I dropped dd off at preschool yesterday and they told me she was going to be the lead in their christmas play as 'Whoopsy Daisy angel'.

They said there was really no other choice cos she's so bolshy confident. I'm only allowed to take one other person so I suspect my Mum and MIL will have to fight it out..

FairyMum · 28/11/2008 07:52

I don't get sentimental at all. I can't really get that excited about nativity plays. This year DH is going.

PavlovtheCat · 28/11/2008 07:55

I am, as DD is an angel in her VERY FIRST EVER nursery play! They have been practising songs and I am making her costume this weekend and its all exciting.

She is 2.5

coopsyblue · 28/11/2008 09:20

my DS is practising away in a manger and it brings a lump to my throat hearing him singing around the house. The actual performance is a different matter with live sheep and a donkey in church it's usually mayhem but the children absolutely love it and it's a lovely way to spend christmas eve

Awww, welling up just reading this lot!

Finally managed to drag it out of DD what she's doing in her nativity (it's next Wednesday) as she's been denying all knowledge of any kind of show going on, despite our getting letters about it a month ago...

We've been instructed to buy green tinsel for costumes (thank God it's an easy one!) so I'm assuming the nursery children are chorus to the Reception class's acting - when she saw me pack it this morning she got v. excited then stood in the doorway and sang 'Away in a Manger' with all the actions - I had to blink furiously... she's 3.9...

Trouble is, we've been here last year, I went to immense effort making a robin outfit for her old nursery concert, as soon as she saw us in the audience burst into tears, ran to us and wouldn't stop crying the whole performance - so anything above that next week will be a pleasant surprise!
