this new pyjamas hysteria for example( I fail to see how any sane kid thinks that is a treat).

tiredemma · 27/11/2008 09:49

I do that but only to fill my own xmas needs. My kids would rather have something exciting, but they have to settle with new pjs.

It is hysteria though isnt it?!

TsarChasm · 27/11/2008 09:50

Making christmas cakes and puddings. God what a faff when you could buy one especially considering everyone is always too full to eat them anyway.

Fiveplusbump · 27/11/2008 09:50

Cards wont send them ,the most I will spend is £4.00 on a pack each for dc to send to classmates or they dont leave me alone .
Everyone else gets a Merry Christmas I don't need to write it in a bloody £2.99 card aswell .

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 27/11/2008 09:50

my kids think new pyjamas are a treat. they get really excited about them and leap around the room showing each other

cherryontopofthexmastree · 27/11/2008 09:50

actually all four of my kids think it is a fantastic treat to get new pj's on christmas eve! my parents did it for me and my siblings, and i have always done it for my kids. they love it, even ds1 who is nearly 10, it add's to the magic of christmas.

GentleOtter · 27/11/2008 09:52

Party hats have a whiff of hysteria about them.

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 27/11/2008 09:53

I'd never even heard of this new PJ's thing before MN this year

comma · 27/11/2008 09:54

I don't
send cards,

do icing sugar( if ONE more rl person tells me excitedly about this brilliant idea they have I am liabale to assault them)

make Xmas puddings

kid kids that pyjamas are a treat

hype up santa

have ridiculous "traditions" that are like one year old and we bore everyone with.

hannahsaunt · 27/11/2008 10:01

Icing
Marzipan
Bread sauce
Brandy butter

Anything I don't like

hannahsaunt · 27/11/2008 10:01

Oh and making my own pastry.

cupsoftea · 27/11/2008 10:02

Never knew about new pj's until mumsnet!

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 27/11/2008 10:05

The whole Jesus thing leaves me cold tbh

comma · 27/11/2008 10:06

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 27/11/2008 10:07

how can you not like Marzipan!!!!

Although I agree that icing a Christmas cake is just wrong

AMumInScotland · 27/11/2008 10:11

Had never heard of the new pyjamas thing till MN, never bothered with the "taking a bite out of a mince pie and a carrot" or the footprints, don't like work lunches in over-busy restaurants with a "special menu", or works "secret santa", don't think making biscuits to hang on the tree is worth the effort involved, don;t think I have to buy huge numbers of new decorations each year to fit in with whatever the lifestyle magazines tell me is the latest fashion, stopped buying mince pies when I realised that no-one in the house actually likes them....

sockmonkey · 27/11/2008 10:11

Christmas pudding. You have just had a mahoooosive meal, do you really need a stodgy pudding afterwards??
(saying that MIL does a heavenly trifle)

Fimbo · 27/11/2008 10:14

Marzipan is blurgh

Another one who had never heard of the pj's thing either until MN.

Mine like new pjs. It isn't some hyped up xmas thing for them, they get disturbingly excited about them at any time of year.

What is wrong with "hyping up santa" etc? It isn't hysteria, it is about bringing magic into lives. Without all the extras, it is just a day of getting given stuff.

AMumInScotland · 27/11/2008 10:25

Or for some of us a celebration of the birth of Christ...

TeenyTinyTorya · 27/11/2008 10:25

Never heard of the PJs thing. I don't like marzipan, Christmas cake or Christmas pudding. Keep the same tree and decorations to use every year. Don't do Christmas nights out with work mates that cost extortionate sums of money.

I do however LOVE mince pies and home-made bread sauce.

DisasterArea · 27/11/2008 10:29

that religious bollox. why would anyone want to go and be bored in a cold old building with musty smelling old people when they could be nice and warm at home with loads of shiney new gadgets and chocolate and alcohol. just do't get it.

JoolsToo · 27/11/2008 10:30

buying presents for adults - commercial nonsense. Recipients go 'ooh, aah lovely' then the item gets shoved out of sight for ever and a day
buying food as if a blitz is imminent
spending £££££££££££££££££££ on kids as if it somehow proves a bigger kind of love
getting pissed just because its Christmas

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 27/11/2008 10:30

oh you obviously haven't been to our Christmas Day service -it's obligatory for everyone to bring along at least one present to show everyone, remote controlled things and anything you can do something with are especially welcome, then the vicar has lots of fun (badly) racing them up and down the aisle
