this new pyjamas hysteria for example( I fail to see how any sane kid thinks that is a treat).

OP posts:

tbh i would get excited over new pjs (sorry Blu ) at christmas. AND stay in them all day, given half a chance.

muckypups · 27/11/2008 12:59

I dont do Christmas cards as complete waste of time and money and i only put up family ones at home.

EachPeachPearMum · 27/11/2008 13:02

I had never heard of cheese balls until mn last christmas!
I have bought DD new pyjamas this year though they are so red and christmassy, and yes- photos will look fab [shallow, proud mum emoticon]

Flightattendant4 · 27/11/2008 13:04

I would have loved new pjs, sadly my children would not give a toss

I wonder if I have done something wrong there...

I don't like the 'come round for drinks' thing at all - if I wanted to see those people (and the ones you have also invited, whom I avoid at all costs and will not be press ganged into polite conversation with because it's Christmas) I would see them on Other Days.

I do not do drinks either, what does it mean...or nibbles...or TV repeats or Queenie or end of year quizzes.

And this year I'm not going to visit my horrible (sadly) old grandmother, because she has fallen out with me (note: not the other way round)

However I have confused the children by putting up the tree already

wannaBe · 27/11/2008 13:05

nooooo. Wtf would people want to put icing sugar on the carpets

Flightattendant4 · 27/11/2008 13:06

oh don't get me started on pantomimes

Flightattendant4 · 27/11/2008 13:07

Surely people use flour, not sugar?

TheProvincialLady · 27/11/2008 13:17

Eh? People deliberately put icing sugar (or flour) on their carpets? WTF for?

I don't eat meat, so a lot of Christmas passes me by.
Special Christmas pyjamas seems like trying too hard to be a beautiful family. Christmas Eve should be all about trying not to have a massive row about why the presents aren't already wrapped and why the dining room paint is still wet at 2am on Christmas morning (or is that just my family?).

Countingthegreyhairs · 27/11/2008 13:18

er, um, I recommend icing sugar on wooden floor [sticks out tongue, runs and hides...]

Nappiesgalore · 27/11/2008 13:18

theres a pj thing?

Countingthegreyhairs · 27/11/2008 13:19

Why all the bah humbug-gery?

Where's the joy?

(Agree about office parties though)

Majeika · 27/11/2008 13:23

none of it

I do none of it

Hyped up commercialism on a massive scale for most people who dont even believe in Jesus

Christmas has nothing to do with Jesus anymore - tis all about stuff, stuff and more stuff and gluttony.

and did you know that Jesus was born in October and not even December? December was chosen to tie in with some pagan celebration of the sun.

TheProvincialLady · 27/11/2008 13:23

But why CTGH? What is it supposed to do/be?

ThePellyandMe · 27/11/2008 13:24

I can't bear those nuts that come in shells and no one can find or use the nutcracker so they sit there through christmas while everyone scoffs all the chocolate and get dumped in the new year.

My mum still does it now

stealthsquiggle · 27/11/2008 13:25

I don't do tipping anyone (binmen et al)

DS will get new pyjamas as a present - not on Christmas Eve (that idea is a new one on me) - because he needs some as all his are up around elbows/knees. DD won't because she has loads of handed down pyjamas which are fine. When she is old enough to want / demand something which doesn't feature a superhero she will probably get them for Christmas too.

Countingthegreyhairs · 27/11/2008 13:26

(genuinely embarrassed now ... er meant to represent snowy footprints of Father Christmas (or over here St Nicholas) and his reindeer ...achieved through cardboard template ... well, dd liked it ...off to hide in shame in my grotto ..)

stealthsquiggle · 27/11/2008 13:27

or Office Parties - especially ones which require you to dress up / pay a babysitter / otherwise shell out hard-earned money to attend

TheProvincialLady · 27/11/2008 13:33

Ah thanks CTGH! Gawd, do you all hang icicles made out of superglue all over the sitting room curtains and trample cocoa powder 'mud' around the soft furnishings as well then?

AMumInScotland · 27/11/2008 13:35

Muddy rather than snowy footprints would be more convincing in most places... though maybe they are meant to have travelled so quickly from the North Pole/Lapland that the snow hasn't even had a chance to melt yet?

Annthecat · 27/11/2008 13:48

Don't do cards (or very minimally)
Don't bake (anymore, no one gave a toss whether Id' made it or bought ii, but took me years to work this out)
Don't do special morning breakfast

PJ's are a gift on chrtmas morning (what can I say they need new jarmies and it's more stuff to unwrap)
do the santa stop here sign (kids love it I grit my teeth)
do the whole baby jesus thing, from crib in our hallway to church on christmas morning with our very non jolly priest, who berates us for our consumerism.

CharleeInChains · 27/11/2008 13:53

WotsThatSkippy - YOU CANT BE ARSED WITH PANTO!! Being in Panto is the highlight of me year!!!!!!!!!!! How very dare you.

CharleeInChains · 27/11/2008 13:56

You to Filgthattendant. - Our villiage panto this year is awesome.

Annthecat · 27/11/2008 13:59

Panto is essential.

(loose usage of the term essential )

the more amateur the better I have found. Avoid big city centre 'production' all you really want is to shout 'he's behind you' as often as posible, not watch spectacualr dance displays.

Annthecat · 27/11/2008 14:00

I also love cheese balls and eat them all year.

CharleeInChains · 27/11/2008 14:01

I am doing a rather crap splendid dance in this years panto, its taking me bloomin ages looking at the choriographers nice bottom to get thoses moves right!
