Those ideas you've had for those hard-to-buy people that you think are fantastic and could inspire others.
For example, I got SIL a jokey desk calendar for her office

What do I get for a bovine SiL? A bear trap perhaps.

moondog · 15/11/2008 20:16

Woman get Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish

Sulky teens and blokes get a cool t shirt www.threadless.com/ Threadless

Fun bits and bobs from Hawkins Bazaar

All done online. Wouldn't dream of stepping into a real shop.

whomovedmychocolate · 15/11/2008 20:17

Your threadless link is buggered moondog!

moondog · 15/11/2008 20:20

Bollocks

Try again

whomovedmychocolate · 15/11/2008 20:25

That works now

I have done everyone except my SiL but I'm just so sodding mad with her I can't be arsed. I know I'll have to but gah I'd like to send her botulism by mail

How do I buy something that conveys my feelings appropriately?

StealthPolarBear · 15/11/2008 20:26

ooh thanks moondog may make use of some of those
Agree with online, I tend to do most of it online and then go to a hellhole shopping centre far later than I should have if I'd been orgaised with a list, map and deadline!

Does anyone know what magazine subscription would be suitable for a 75 yr old unmarried aunt? She likes crosswords and real life story articles so I was thinking maybe Take a Break but was hoping to find a monthly rather than weekly. Does such a thing exist? I don't think she would be interested in Good Housekeeping types.

cupsoftea · 17/11/2008 12:40

Would readers digest suit her? with a puzzle mag to go with it?

PortAndLemon · 17/11/2008 12:41

Readers Digest does sound good for the aunt.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/11/2008 13:18

My Mum and Dad. It needs to be postable or orderable as they live in the States. They don't have 'hobbies', they aren't 'old'. They are very computer literate (more than me, my Mum does websites and stuff) They don't particularly read (though Mum does if she has time and its the right book)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/11/2008 13:19

oh and Mum is chemical sensitive and is very careful about lotions and potions.

PortAndLemon · 17/11/2008 13:19

Photobook of your DCs?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/11/2008 13:32

Maybe..... I've only one dd but perhaps if I include some of me and dh too and I've got a couple of Mum and Dad with dd.
I'll think about that one - thanks

My 22 year old male cousin? Very trendy, but don't want to buy him something expensive, as he is, generally, vile.

ilovetochat · 21/11/2008 15:54

bil, 46, single, diabetic, doesn't drink, no hobbies except fishing and he's got stuff, small flat, not into fashion. help. £10-£15 max.

StealthPolarBear · 21/11/2008 16:57

maggots? Loads, in a festive tub?

My Dad 52, he's got evrything as he's always buying himself things. Loves his sports car and drives around like a 18 year old lad. No real hobbies, thinks he's always rite and is a PITA. I love him realy, but what the hell do i get him.

geordieminx · 21/11/2008 17:12

Remote control helicopter? Can get the for £10 just now?

squeaver · 21/11/2008 17:14

pinkjenny - iTunes voucher for he 22 year old. My standard gift for anyone aged 12 - 25.

Takver · 21/11/2008 17:39

We just got remote control airplane (like the helicopter) for DH's 24 yr old brother, and remote control teeny tiny car for his 11 yr brother. Both are impossible, but we figured even if they didn't like them we would all have fun playing with them on Christmas day and they would find a good home somewhere.
Last yr we got 24yr old bro a big box of fireworks.

Orlando · 21/11/2008 17:52

I discovered a shop locally which prints t-shirts and this year am taken with the idea of getting them made for cousins etc-- featuring whatever embarrassing photo I can lay my hands on (preferably naked baby pics for strapping 17 year olds etc).

I also love this thing very deeply and, as mentioned on another thread am sending to families who have everything. There's also this one which is fun too and so cheap!

Thankyouandgoodnight · 21/11/2008 20:30

orlando - that looks very cool! The love deeply one..... do you happen to have a picture of it - their website isn't awfully obliging! Do you think it's substantial enough to give to a family of very excellent friends on it's own or not do you think (here illustrateth my present choosing crisis outlined on another thread)
