If you HATED it-it is a BIG present, and for the same price I could get her something really nice and wooden that she could have for years and would look beautiful, but she wants the typical 5 year old garishly horrible toy that I swore I would never buy and scorned the parents who bought them before I had children. Do I make her Christmas (which is what I want to do, but preferably with something else!), or just hope the obsession will go away

I thought it was going to be something really bad! Can you afford to spend £200? If you can then I would buy her what she wants tbh. I wanted a sindy oven once that made cooking sounds but I never did get it . Wonder if there are any on Ebay

Pawslikepaddington · 21/10/2008 11:02

I haven't gone yet, argh! I have found a wooden rocking horse kit for a bit more, and would be able to make it and can just about afford it, but it is a seriously beautiful wooden rocking horse, I just linked to the mothercare one as comparison really. It would have to be a birthday and xmas present tho as I said earlier, and she won't realise the meaning of that until the birthday comes round a month later! I can remember really wanting a paddling pool and never getting one, and I never got a boy tiny tears, but it doesn't hurt as much now 20 years on (sob sob sob)

Why don't you take her to a shop which has the more traditional type rocking horses on display and "persuade" her that way?

IllegallyBrunette · 21/10/2008 11:07

It is a Fur real toy isn't it ??

They are all crap tbh. Dd2 has the polar bear, dalmation and something else and they are all rubbish.

She has asked for the new dog they do that costs £150, but I have said no minaly because of the cost, but also because it will be crap, and the pic in the Argos book makes it look like it is possessed.

Pawslikepaddington · 21/10/2008 11:08

Good idea! And I could do the whole "you can actually BUY these ones, I don't know if santa can buy tacky tacksome as he would have to take him away from the other children then" Evil evil woman! xx

I wouldn't get either if it has to be a joint xmas and birthday present. 5 is too young to comprehend that she then won't get anything for her birthday.

Oliveoil · 21/10/2008 11:09

good idea tiggywinkle

go way over the top with enthusiasm and belittle the hideous one

they can be moulded like clay these tiny little minds mwahahahahahahahahaha

Pawslikepaddington · 21/10/2008 11:10

Thank you, I saw the incredibly expensive dog too, he is scary! xx

For all those who don't have enough pink sparkly plastic lying around the house, here is the severed head of Barbie. It was very kind of my nieces to pass it on to us, but I drew the line at the severed head of Barbie's Pegasus as it brought back too many memories of The Godfather.

Pawslikepaddington · 21/10/2008 11:12

She would get SOMETHING for her birthday, but it would be little things like cd's, books and sylvanian people, I wouldn't leave her without anything

Our neighbour would LOVE those! xx

My daughter loves the head of Barbie and plays with it every day. It's just that I could never have brought myself to buy it.

Eniddo · 21/10/2008 11:17

the worst thing about thoes fur real toys (and baby born btw) is the horrible mechanical noise they make when they move

Oliveoil · 21/10/2008 11:18

we had the pegasus head

all the hair matted and it was left forlorn on the shelf

then we sent it to the plastic tat heaven (ie the tip)

Eniddo · 21/10/2008 11:18

I just say no to my kids

they wouldn't even ask for that horse tbh

morningpaper · 21/10/2008 12:19

I always say "Oh of COURSE you can have it! When you've got a job."

DD always says something like "Mummy! I don't even know what 60 plus 60 is." or something equally random

I ts pink but I know the stores do different colours - much cheaper if you can convince her lol.

I always wanted a Girls World when I was little and never got one of santa - spent months thinking I must have been so naughty to not get the only present I had asked for. Lukily DS hasnt asked for anything horrendous but there arent many toys I dislike so hopefully we will be fine.

HappyMummyOfOne · 21/10/2008 13:08

There is a standing horse also on the website in a couple of colours but not sure if its the right size.

mysteryfairy · 21/10/2008 19:42

Maybe sell her on this?
playmobil pony farm

Eniddo · 23/10/2008 11:49

i can personally vouch for the fabness of the playmobil pony farm

has kept dd2 GRIPPED since her birthday at the weekend

skankywitch · 23/10/2008 14:43

PLP Father Christmas brought my dd Butterscotch Fur real pony Christmas 2006, she had turned 6 earlier that month. She adores it plays with it all the time and it's her best present ever but she is totally pony mad (we have real ones as well)
But it takes up a lot of space in her bedroom and I can't see that I'll ever be able to get rid of it. You can buy a rug and leg bandage set from ebay (I got grandma to make one). Our Butterscotch spends most of her time being nursed back from ill health by dd, getting ready to go to Horse of the Year Show or being galloped to save another horse from danger.

If you can afford it get her one, will it be from you of Fc?

ladypinky · 26/10/2008 21:15

LOL sorry, the exact same thing happened to me last year!!!
I bought the butterscotch one in the end (It was in the shop window we went past the thing everyday I couldn't stand the puppy dog eyes and the wimpering.) I felt sick buying it, my dp went mad as I went behind his back.
Her face Christmas morning though couldn't beat it, bought a lump to my throat. She still loves it now even though its too small.
