If you HATED it-it is a BIG present, and for the same price I could get her something really nice and wooden that she could have for years and would look beautiful, but she wants the typical 5 year old garishly horrible toy that I swore I would never buy and scorned the parents who bought them before I had children. Do I make her Christmas (which is what I want to do, but preferably with something else!), or just hope the obsession will go away

that hideous horse is cheaper in Costco

my two sit on it when we go in

it is not very nice tbh

also, £200 is madness (but you know that yes? [gri])

MadBadandWieldingAnAxe · 21/10/2008 10:32

To me, they both seem extraordinarily expensive. How much time would she actually spend playing with either one? She may love the one in the shop, but would she pay so much attention to one at home?

I'd spend the money on books and smaller toys and games.

Tiggiwinkle · 21/10/2008 10:33

She will love it!

morningpaper · 21/10/2008 10:33

IT IS HIDEOUS

YOUR CHILD IS SPOILT

YOU CAN'T EVEN AFFORD IT

there, now I feel better

What about paying for a few days on a riding-school holiday next year instead?

Pawslikepaddington · 21/10/2008 10:33

We are in rented so can only have fish, and I am really not a pet person anyway-I would probably kill them or something. Riding stables are great, and she loves them at other people's houses, but our farm is rotting in a box somewhere and I think stables would do the same sadly

Why can't your DH take her for a horse-riding weekend?

Oliveoil · 21/10/2008 10:34

fgs

that was supposed to be a [gri]

morningpaper · 21/10/2008 10:34

she really won't love it for very long

you know it will be a huge regretful monstrosity by the first week in January, yes?

Oliveoil · 21/10/2008 10:36

I have a 4 and a 5 year old and they would love that horse

HOWEVER

they would prefer lots of smaller presents to open on the day itself tbh

big pile of small ones v one big one

hmmmmmmm

MadBadandWieldingAnAxe · 21/10/2008 10:37

Laughing at the idea of "My First Beauty Parlour and Weight Loss Center".

We've just been given a hand-me-down severed head of Barbie, with hair dressing accoutrements, which is nearly the same thing.

purpleduck · 21/10/2008 10:37

get her what she wants - those look really fun.

Are you worried that her toy takes the imagination out of it, as it does everything iyswim?

Oliveoil · 21/10/2008 10:37

we have a small one that someone kindly () got us from woolworths iirc

came with a cowboy hat and it sings

will try and link

they still play with it 3 years on (far too small now but hey ho)

Pawslikepaddington · 21/10/2008 10:37

Mrsgboring, you made me laugh out loud then! Yes, it is hideous, yes, the money is madness, but I have always been sensible present buying woman, we have two bookcases full of books, I always buy audio books instead of dvds, all our toys are educational or crafty and I want to buy her what she wants for once as I never do, and they only thing she wants is this horrid horse. I could buy a violin and pretend santa got confused?

OP posts:
Blandmum · 21/10/2008 10:37

vastly expensive.

DD wanted one of those 'puppy dogs you can train'

against my better judgement I got it for her. Waste of bloody money. She played with it for a few days.

and we can't any pet with fur as ds is wildly allergic. and fish are dull, we've had them. And all other scaly pets are banned as I loathe them and want to stamp on them

morningpaper · 21/10/2008 10:38

will you come back here on 1 January and ADMIT WE WERE ALL RIGHT and be full of remorse because your annual holiday is now in Bultins?

yes?

purpleduck · 21/10/2008 10:39

oooh, there's an idea - can you get a second hand one, and then some smaller pressies?

Oliveoil · 21/10/2008 10:39

prepare to vomit

Blandmum · 21/10/2008 10:39

at which point should could strap it to a rocket, no?

KatieDD · 21/10/2008 10:39

Hmmm my three have played with the rocking horse for hours, it's a cowboy game, riding with the princes to get married game, I think any horse is good value as long as it hasn't got a pulse and shits.

morningpaper · 21/10/2008 10:40

ALLL those pet-type presents are a waste of money

Once it's done its 'tricks' you realise that it's totally predictable and it's boring

let's face it, it's a one-trick pony

Pawslikepaddington · 21/10/2008 10:40

Sorry, I needed to confront myself on why I'm even entertaining it I think , the only way I can account for that outburst! There is no DH or grandparents, so I'm the only one that could take her to the stables, boo! I love you all, you all make me laugh so much-what is happening with your grins olive? xx

OP posts:
Oliveoil · 21/10/2008 10:40

I have paid to ship that fcuker to australia. Someone shoot me now.

morningpaper · 21/10/2008 10:40

THERE WILL BE A LOT OF SECOND HAND ONES IN JANUARY

morningpaper · 21/10/2008 10:42

Buy a big stable thing instead

She needs to develop her imagination

That's the whole point of being 5

mrsruffallo · 21/10/2008 10:42

Agree Morning Paper
They are both a bad idea
