My close friends always have dinner on Christmas Day. For lunch, they go to the pub.

I couldn't bear eating so late. I like to get the whole thing over at lunch so I can chillout and watch the box.

ComeOVeneer · 20/10/2008 13:29

We have a big breakfast (smoked solmon, eggs fresh baked rolls, fruit crossants etc. Then have a late christmas lunch at about 3pm, then a cold buffet late evening.

saythatagain · 20/10/2008 13:29

We have in the past. I've done a brunch-type-thing late morning, which has seen us through so to speak. Its quite nice enjoying the day without the pressure of having to keep 'running' to the kitchen checking on your sprouts etc. I would recommend it.

NomDePlume · 20/10/2008 13:30

We eat at about 3pm

chunkychips · 20/10/2008 13:31

we eat at about 3/4 pm as well and have later breakfast, by the time all the presents are opened etc it's getting on a bit anyway.

nappyaddict · 20/10/2008 13:33

what time do you all eat breakfast? do you have littlies who can wait to have a late breakfast/brunch? ds (2) is usually famished by 9am.

norksinmywaistband · 20/10/2008 13:34

We have "lunch" 3pm that way only breakfast and onw huge meal required

saythatagain · 20/10/2008 13:44

I'd give the littlies something as usual, but then they can dive in at brunch too!

Blu · 20/10/2008 13:48

Yes, proper dinner time. Or 6pm if small children involved.

breakfast - breakfast time

Lunch - smoked salmon, that sort of thing - light but nic - and cold / prepared day before - e.g game pie / trifle

Christmas Dinner.

Removes mad rush in morning - can spend time with the children and enjoying toys / presents. All adults lend a hand in shifts in preparation of diner. - we have loads of things done in advance - my brother bings all the trimmings - red cabbage, stuffing, bread sauce and pud - that he has been cooking and freezing or storing fo ages. My sister and I do a marathon potato peel together on Christmas Eve afternoon to see us through Christmas eve (massive family dinner with roast beef) and christmas day) and do as many veg as we can, too.

nappyaddict · 20/10/2008 13:57

Ble - do you have a cooked breakfast?

OrmIrian · 20/10/2008 13:59

No. I'd love to so we could actually manage a lovely long wintery walk on Christmas day. But DH is a boring old traditionalist - has to be at lunchtime and has to be turkey

FimboGotAxed · 20/10/2008 14:03

We have it spread out over the course of the day.

We start with breakfast of sausages wrapped in bacon.

Then we may have the "starter" at lunchtime say homemade veg soup or prawn cocktail.

The main meal about 3ish (think we are having duck this year)

Then have dessert about 6pm

saythatagain · 20/10/2008 14:05

My turkey last year was a disaster - it was rubbery, just awful. Thank heavens for all the trimmings! I made a promise that it was the last time for what to me is a not very tasty bird. Future meals will be chicken/goose/duck/pheasant/guniea fowl etc.

midnightexpress · 20/10/2008 14:06

Like blu - normalish breakfast, nice very light lunch of smoked salmon etc - nothing that needs cooking. our children are still v small so would probably just give them something they would normally have for lunch.

Dinner at about 4 or 5. Which leaves time before to go out and also time afterwards to digest before second helpings bed.

I'm never that hungry at lunchtime and can't bear the stuffed to the gunnels and sleepy feeling all afternoon.

Blu · 20/10/2008 14:12

Napyaddict, No, we don't have a cooked breakfast, I don't think. Maybe croissants, fruit, or pretty normal breakfast things. Ooh, I know, we have Panetonne!

And Bucks Fizz or champagne mid morning to get us all in the mood.

colacubes · 20/10/2008 14:21

We eat at 4.30 ish, have a big breakfast, and thats it, maybe crackers and cheese at supper.

Bramshott · 20/10/2008 14:23

Smoked salmon breakfast

Soup for lunch with DH's parents & 90-year old grandmother, who then depart leaving us to have

Christmas dinner at about 5.30pm with the DDs

I couldn't be doing with eating at lunchtime, we'd have to start cooking at 7am!

nymphadora · 20/10/2008 14:25

Dinner is 12pm!

We do eat then tho cos dd2 & I don't like waiting for meals

jicky · 20/10/2008 14:25

We tend to eat about 5 - which is normally dc dinner time. We do brunch and maybe soup earlier - depends on how much chocolate is consumed! Santa has left the children the latest foul thing from cocoa pops in return for the mince pies so they munch on that (and also makes them really believe in Santa as mean mummy never buys them!) and pick at brunch.

nappyaddict · 20/10/2008 14:25

Think we will do:

Cooked breakfast

Smoked salmon, quiche, ham etc for lunch

Goose dinner with all the trimmings

Blu · 20/10/2008 14:36

IMO It's much nicer having Christmas dinner after dark - candles, the pudding, the christmas tree lights showing up properly! And I enjoy the wine much more in the evening. It feels like wasting the day to it and gorge for the best part of it, and then be unable to move!

filz · 20/10/2008 14:38

as mine get up at what seems like 5 minutes past midnight, we do feel like we are eating in the evening even its only 11am

amanda12 · 20/10/2008 15:16

The children have an early breakfast of cereal and selection boxes at about 7 ish then we all have a big brunch at about 11 and then christmas dinner at 4-5. We find this works much better for our children as after the dinner we go for a lovely walk in the dark looking at all the lights and then its home for christmas film and then bed.

branflake81 · 20/10/2008 15:59

We eat at about 7:30pm.

Don't really have any lunch, maybe some toast or something small.

nappyaddict · 20/10/2008 16:00

branflake - what do you have for breakfast? i'd be starving by 7:30!!
