and if so what sort of things do you eat for lunch?

We usually have dinner in the evening, about 6ish with the dds being small. I don't really like eating lots at lunchtime.

For lunch. hmm. I suppose we go for something not too rich or elaborate. bread, cheese, fruit. We often go out if it's sunny to the beach (or to see friends or to the pub if it's not sunny) so lunch just fits in around what else we're doing.

I used to hate the constant eating of rich food at christmas, it makes me feel ill. So we do tend to keep the food not too rich or special for at least some of the meals.

OK, totaly different to everyone else, we eat on christmas day the same as we would any other sunday.

Breakfast for those who want it (IE DD's will have some toast about 8am).

Lunch around 1pm then tea if anyone wants it later.

I don't see the point of over eating just because it christmas.

We have: Chocolates and marzipan from stockings whilst still in bed, an ordinary breakfast when we get up, then church, then presents, then salad and cheese for lunch. Then playing with presents and cooking dinner - eat at about 7-8, then more games and bed.

Lizziemum I don't see the point of over eating just because it is Christmas either. I like to over eat every day of the year

Yes we have dinner at about 5pm.Suits the younger kids and the adults too( we are used to having a bowl of soup at lunchtime so no-one is ready for a big meal then)
we all have brunch around 11am in our own houses. Then people arrive about 2pm.Fire lit ,A few glasses of champagne.Pressie opening.TV and or games and playing with new things.Go on the Wii.
All the while the cook is in and out of the kitchen. But as there is no particular rush it is easy. if there is time everyone goes( except cook and bottle washer) for a bracing walk before dinner.
Get stuck in about 5pm-5.30pm.Everyone is hungry-(I think this is the key) and will stay at the table until 8 or 9.Kids are full and get down from the table to watch a DVD.Much wine is drunk.
Everyone home by 10pm.

So glad to find we're not the only ones:

Get up 7ish with cups of tea.

Bacon rolls and coffee about 8.30am

Coffee & mince pies as soon as home from church

Light lunch - smoked salmon, pate, cheese, oatcakes about 1.30

Dinner about 6pm - fits in much better with children's meal patterns so they join in with the main Christmas meal at a sensible time for them and none of this faffing either terribly early in the morning or rushing from church - makes for a very relaxed, leisurely day.

We have our xmas dinner at about 1 o clock then have tea about 6ish, which is just some turkey sandwiches.

We always used to have a large breakfast, pig out a bit in the day and have dinner in the evening. I found it to be quite a hassle, it felt like I was cooking all day and I couldn't really relax until it was out of the way. Last year we had our christmas lunch at about 1.30ish and I much prefered it, it meant that we had all afternoon to play with ds's pressies and by evening we were ready to eat cheese, biscuits and savoury nibbles.

ohdearwhatamess · 20/10/2008 16:29

Yes. Last couple of yrs we've eaten at 7.30/8 once ds1 is in bed. Will do the same again this year.

Lunch will be something like smoked salmon or pate, nice bread, soup, fruit (at about 12.30/1), and we'll probably have a nice breakfast (croissants, cinammon buns, pain au chocolat) at 7ish.

cherryliquormonster · 20/10/2008 18:39

we usually have scrambled duck eggs on toast, fruit and croissants for breakfast about 10.30-11am, then snacks around two and do the main christmas dinner for about 5-6pm.

Tortington · 20/10/2008 18:41

we have ours at 3pm

don't really know what that makes it

Leslaki · 21/10/2008 16:00

Yeah, main meal about 5ish here too - always fitted in better with the kids and means less faffing about early in the day when the kids are opening /playing with presents. I feel more involved then in the mad present mania in the morning! We always used to have a BBQ (if raining then bbq iunder open garage door!!) breakfast of bacon, sausage and black pudding but that stopped for a few years cos xh didn't agree with it - but he left in March so we'll be doing it this year!!! Then a light lunch - pate, toast, smoked salmon, whatever people want. Then Xmas dinner with the lights twinkling - then veg out, fire on and slump in front of tv!! Although dc's are gettign a wii this year so prob wont get my usual slob session!!!
