Can anyone recommend a sturdy wooden doll's house?

Dd1 is 2 1/2. She is the sort of child who plays with her elder brother's garage, very quietly & absorbedly, for hours, so I think something '3 & up' is unlikely to get trashed - would like it to last, too, so a reasonably 'grown up' model, really - not too pink iykwim...

Probably looking for something around the £100 mark...

I got one on ebay recently which was pretty good - but it's lilac - so you might want to go for the white version... hang on a second I'll find a link for you.

twentynine · 18/10/2008 20:37

this one is nice and big

this is the one we got

ravenAK · 19/10/2008 10:29

oooh thanks twentynine!

Not sure we've got room for the really big one. I like the second one, but I think something more traditional, with lots of fiddly little dolls & furniture, would be more dd1's style!

Many thanks anyway

Or i have got one from studio catalogue for my DD4 with her name printed on the roof. Was 39.99 with accessories.

snickersnack · 19/10/2008 11:03

http://www.etoys.co.uk/product.php?p=33737579 dd is getting this one. Plan and ELC both make beautiful furniture that fits inside (she already has a lot of it)

We have this Plan one. (Well similar - we have the Georgian one). We have had it for years. You can add the basement and attic later on if you want. Ours is still unpainted after 8 years but still looks good.

Those are brilliant! Now torn between them. Many thanks

narnia2 · 22/10/2008 10:38

Got one for my DD this summer from toysrus - slightly taller than her (she is average 3y old) and you can use all those 12" dolls (barbie, hsm, disney etc) and no fiddly little bits. Its a moderd wooden dolls house with bright deco, a lift, spiral staircase, verandah, chaise longue...great fun. Pricey £79.99 but worth it

becks5109 · 22/10/2008 12:14

we have got the one from John Lewis - pintoy type one about £100 but I did loads of research on mumsnet (of course!) and decided to go for a reasonably expensive sturdy one as they do last and my daughter is 4 and loves it and her cousin for is 6 also loves it too so I'm hoping for many years of enjoyment from it!

If you've got a tenovus charity shop near you, they sell the most divine wooden dollshouses (prices range from around £60.00 to £100.00)

Well worth a look, and your doing your bit for the charity too

www.jellyandblancmange.co.uk have a great little new england style one, made of wood and painted red - bought one for my daughter's birthday she absolutely loves it.
Much better than most of the high street plastic stuff.

Littlefish · 27/10/2008 21:50

We bought dd the same ones as Becks5109.

It's this one.

Dd absolutely loves it.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 27/10/2008 21:52

We have the ELC one and it IS good (although some of the furniture has little bitty bits which ds (11mths) tries to eat! I have great fun organising tidying it, though! (I even set the table )

babylover252 · 30/10/2008 13:35

www.toffeeappleworld.co.uk le toy van dolls houses and www.skybluekids.co.uk some nice sylvanian familes dolls houses and not too pink! v nice

babylover252 · 30/10/2008 13:37

these are very sturdy by the way got one of each for my daughter one for xmas and then her bday she just loves them

Cadmum · 30/10/2008 13:42

We have the plan one as well. We bought it for DD1 when she was 6 because she and DS2 used to play with one at toddler group together and we had recently moved. They both loved it and now DD2 has to be dragged away from it to join us in 'real life'.

i highly recommend it. The furniture is not particularly fiddly but there is no reason that you couldn't choose different furniture as it is a nice size house without being too big IYKWIM.

Happy shopping.

LolaLadybird · 31/10/2008 23:08

We got the same one as Becks for DD last Xmas when she was 2 1/2 and it was a great purchase. DD loves playing with it and it's really sturdy. It has spent time downstairs but now stays in DD's bedroom and she really enjoys quiet time-out in her bedroom playing with it.

Also, makes me laugh that DD's little boy mates can't wait to get their hands on it when they come round!

nancy75 · 01/11/2008 14:36

dd has a letoyvan one which is lovely, we had bought her one from great little trading originally but it fell apart before the end of xmas day last year so dont get one of theirs.

Paddlechick666 · 01/11/2008 14:54

I just bought this one www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000RPFQJS

It's a bit more a budget option especially as there's no delivery charge.

It's got a good review however I missed the delivery today so can't comment on it myself yet.

macherie · 01/11/2008 22:16

DD got bay tree cottage (near the end of the page) and absolutely loves it, it is the most played with toy in the house. We got a starter box of furniture and a family, but she prefers using playmobile stuff in it (we have a huge collection of playmobile from her brothers)
