i'd go for it - even if she's a bit young she'll still be interested in it and it will keep.

clayre · 03/10/2008 11:03

my best friend and my auntie (she had 3 boys then 2 grandsons) bought my dd a doll for her 1st xmas she was 10 and a half months

hughjarssss · 03/10/2008 11:05

Did your dd play with it clayre?

One of the things my DD got was a cheap doll and a cheap push chair when she turned one because she always loved playing with other kids. She may as well not have any other toys, it's by far the best £6 I've spent. She adores dolls and spends ages putting them to bed (covering them up on a cushion) and cradling them (she's two now). I'm sure she'll love it

Marina · 03/10/2008 11:07

My niece, who is one, is displaying a keen interest in dd's baby dolls and will happily smooch and hug a small one
My First Baby Born is a good one - definitely go for a soft-bodied make
It will freak her out if the dolly is the same size as her

Marina · 03/10/2008 11:08

Mine still loves her babies passionately at five. Am relieved she has passed the phase of giving birth to them noisily from under her top and then tottering off for a "lie down".

clayre · 03/10/2008 11:11

yeah she still does, shes 5 and a half now, its a Fisher Price 'little mommy' doll it was just a basic softbodied doll i think it came with a bottle and the one my friend got was from hamleys, it was just a basic soft bodied doll

hughjarssss · 03/10/2008 11:15

LOL Marina!

I'll definatly get her one

Thanks everyone

We bought DD a 'my first baby annabelle' which she still loves to bits now!! she was just under 9mths on her first xmas. It's soft bodied and normally comes with a couple of accessories, we kept them to one side for the first 6mths or so until she was able to play with the dolly properly, but she's always loved it!!

We also bought her her first buggy that xmas too, and as she started walking she used that as her aid instead of a baby walker type thing.

elmoandella · 03/10/2008 11:18

got dd a doll for her 1st birthday. she adores it. and especially putting it in it's pram. but go for the ones designed for her age group.

we got her this doll from disney store. her favourite thing is that when you lie it flat it's eyes close for it to sleep. she spends ages and ages turned it upright then flat, upright then flat.

but we got one of those umbrella stroller. but like everyone we've had since. the fabric gets ripped and she rams you in the leg with the frame.

so get one of the baby type, some are very sturdy and double as walkers

Sazisi · 03/10/2008 11:19

As I just said on the other doll thread: get her a Baby Stella!!! 'tis a lovely soft velvety doll made by Manhattan Toy Company, it has a magnetic dummy and is really sweet.
We got one for DD3's 1st Birthday (it's suitable from 1) and all our girls adore it (as do I )

SoupDragon · 03/10/2008 11:20

I got BabyDragon a ragdoll for her first birthday. I think they're better than the more realistic ones.

feetheart · 03/10/2008 11:21

LOL Marina. Mine is 5.6 and has passed the giving birth stage as well I think. Now seems to be giving birth to puppies though

Bought DS (7mths at the time) a soft bodied baby doll as he was winding DD up by gumming her dollies to death. He still loves it at nearly 3 so definitely not too young.

LilRedWG · 03/10/2008 11:21

DD as bought this one for her first borthday. She loved/s it.

LilRedWG · 03/10/2008 11:22

Total rubbish - it wasn't her borthday or birthday - it was her first Christmas. She was 7 months.

gingerninja · 03/10/2008 11:29

Soupdragon, my DD has two rag dolls and they are beautiful and I wish she'd love them but she won't give them the time of day. She wants lumps of plastic and that's that!

EffiePerine · 03/10/2008 11:35

if I had a girl, I'd get her one of these: they look great

www.anaratoys.co.uk/dolls-baby-dolls-corolle-dolls-c-34_241.html

EffiePerine · 03/10/2008 11:36

and this one can go in teh bath

www.anaratoys.co.uk/corolle-tidoo-suce-pouce-bath-doll-p-1170.html

I'd buy one for DS but he shows no interest in dolls whatsoever

Nemoandthefishes · 03/10/2008 11:41

my dds both got dolls for xmas when they were around 1.They played with them and still do at nearly 2 and 3

Marina · 03/10/2008 11:41

Dd has two Lilydolls, Fiona and Arsula (she could not pronounce her name properly and it's stuck alas ), and is very underwhelmed by them. Unlike me, I love them. Just as well, the £££ I paid out for their carrying case/gorgeous clothes etc

EffiePerine · 03/10/2008 11:44

oh teh Lilydolls are great, I go them for my nieces yonks ago. Theys till preferred Barbies and associated tat

see if I did have a girl, she;d just be ungrateful

Marina · 03/10/2008 11:49

Definitely Effie
Pearls before sparkly little swine

hughjarssss · 03/10/2008 13:07

I'm going to try very hard to keep away from the whole barbie thing

So many too choose from, Stella, lilly, Famigila. I agree a rag doll is a great idea and probably the best option.

But Effie the dolls on them links are gorgeous and really sweet. I dont think I can resit

DD1 was totally uninterested in dolls.
DD2 has loved them since about 4 months . She is now nearly 2 and her dolls are what she plays with most.

Go for it but get a smallish lightweight, cuddly doll.

EustaciaVye · 04/10/2008 18:55

Lol, Just saw the Barbie comments. DD2 is nearly 2 and loves playing with Barbiew more than her older sister. IME they either like dolls or they dont, and if they do they'll play with any available.
