Lighthearted - we all know every other family apart from our own does it wrong!

Mine are:

  • no pigs in blankets
  • BOILED veg 🤮
  • treating the Christmas cracker like a competition (we are are each person gets their own cracker prize family!)

I judge families where someone (usually the mother) is skaving away in the kitchen making everything perfect while the kids open presents and pkay with toys, other adults drink and relax etc

I judge people who all link arms around the table to pull their crackers all at once

I didn't know this was a thing. Even the thought makes me feel murderous.

Growing up, and with my family now, the rule has always been no presents are opened unless the whole family are there, to avoid this.

Me too. I've never understood why people have mash alongside roasties.

I make mash just for DD who has never like roast potatoes (the massive weirdo) but I always do extra for the mash lovers.

Whatbloodysummer · Today 09:32

Anyone who has sage in their stuffing 😱It literally tastes like mouldy bread 😫

brownbootsandhats · Today 09:32

Which just goes to show - roast veggies?!

I have them at other times of the year but never on a Christmas dinner - boiled simply to balance the meal for me

People who serve pigs in blankets. Adults who wear Christmas party hats. People who serve their Christmas lunch at a time that's effectively a slightly early dinner.

Mostly that they're cooking and eating animal carcasses.

There always has to be one 🙄

At least if they are enjoying it, I have no problem with that. I don't understand why people would suffer cooking, and eating turkey, when they don't really like it, just because 'It's Christmas'!

Twoshoesnewshoes · Today 09:33

I judge people who take ages making it - we are veggie so it is quite simple so I smugly sigh at people defrosting turkeys at 5 am
also agree with sprouts, it’s the law, wtf to starters, surely that’s wine?

They’re the same people who clap when the aeroplane lands

What on earth is wrong with a PIB??

Mulled wine for starters 👍

People who make a big deal about the paper hats from crackers being worn during the meal - do one, they're not compulsory.

Frozen roasties and veg.

Gravy granules made up with hot water

Otherwise I'm easy. I'm vegetarian but always have the M&S nut roast which is amazing.

We tried this although my dad gets bored watching people open presents so he constantly finds something to busy himself with in the kitchen - usually making more cups of tea

So it's OK for you to judge but not me, how does that work 🤔

HeddaGarbled · Today 09:36

Overdoing it: three types of meat, three types of potato, eight types of vegetable, multiple pudding choices.

Mulled wine for starters 👍

We usually have nibbly bits for a starter a good hour or two before the main event. It’s a long time to be sat at the table otherwise so there’s usually some smoked salmon and melon and Parma ham served so you can stand around eating it and chatting - not too much to eat but enough to get the festivities going and stop you being STARVING by 3pm

No traditional dinner at our house regardless of what is the norm. We don’t like a roast and no one wants to spend hours preparing and cooking a big meal. Cold buffet here!

GordonRamsey · Today 09:37

Pot Noodles not be dressed with a spring of holly.

SpiralSister · Today 09:37

People who have turkey. Especially if they don’t really like it. So many more really delicious things you could have!

It’s a lighthearted thread - no place for sanctimony, it’s Christmas!!

I find that they look and taste revolting and I don't understand why they are served next to a massive turkey or other meat.

Mightaswellsetamantrap · Today 09:39

I’d be disappointed to see no wine on the table.
Christmas pudding served with custard is weird.

BarbaraVineFan · Today 09:39

See, I don’t agree with the roast vegetables. I like boiled sprouts and carrots to cut through the richness of everything else.
