I'm finding that chocolate gives me really bad reflux but I want to have some treats in my stocking! Preferably quite Christmas related. I do like dates and those orange/lemon slices.
What else do you look forward to at Christmas?

Chocolate-covered marzipan bars
turkish delight
eat-me dates
nuts in their shells
peppermint creams
toffifee
giant tube of fruit pastilles, or tutti frutti if they are still made
blocks of butterscotch in shiny wrappers

Walkers toffees.
Walkers salted caramel toffees.
Toffees or fudge I made myself.
I used to be partial to a homemade peppermint cream.
Honeycomb.

You'll need the dentist on speed dial.

Oh I love Turkish Delight!

@5289843DM where do you get panforte? I haven't seen it in any of the usual supermarkets. We can get Ocado/Waitrose delivery and we have Booths too as well as the usual ones.

Have a look at Algerian Coffee Store’s website. They’re a lovely shop in Soho and have amazing traditional treats at Christmas, including panforte. Some of the things aren’t my sort of thing but I’m always tempted based on aesthetics alone!

PurpleLovecats · Yesterday 22:31

The boiled sweets you get in Tim’s at garden centres with the icing sugar sprinkled on them.

Loub1987 · Yesterday 23:11

Pretzels for me and Bombay mix always said Christmas.

TaraRhu · Yesterday 23:37

fruit pastilles that aren't fruit pasitikles but look like slices of orange. Yummy . My gran got me them and I still like them .

I like nougat with nuts/fruit etc. You can usually get bars in the supermarkets in their Christmas ranges. Some Middle Eastern grocery stores also sell individually wrapped pick and mix nougat which are quite nice. Fortnum and Mason used to do amazing slabs of fancy nougats which you could buy by weight from their deli counters… sadly they have stopped now 😭 and I’ve never found anything to match them. Don’t really have the budget for F&M these days anyway 😆… but if anyone else remembers this stuff and has found an equivalent, please tell me!

Also like nut brittles and fruit jellies/pate de fruits and very partial to Jelly Belly jelly beans.

I like dark chocolate covered crystallised ginger. Or frankly , just the ginger.

DefiantRabbit9 · Today 00:24

I go through pierniczki like crazy (polish gingerbread). I easily love them more than chocolate.

IdentifyingAsAWoollyMammoth · Today 00:25

Orange and lemon slices
Peanut brittle
Coconut ice
Marzipan (not fruits, just a block and I cut slices off, yummy)

Not actually sweets, but soft amaretti biscuits too.

Ooh liquorice selection boxes! Please do share.

Have you tried dark very high cocoa solid chocolate? It’s the fat and sugar in cheap chocolate that makes me unwell not the chocolate per se

There is an independent sweet shop in town, and they get selection boxes of Licorice in sometimes. We buy them at Christmas:

They also do the Licorice wands, with coloured fizzy crystals inside - another favourite from our childhood!

They do boxes of stem ginger in dark chocolate, my absolute favourite, which DH also gets me for Christmas; but this thread is not about chocolate!

Pfeffernüsse are my favourite

Tinseltrauma · Today 08:02

Also not traditionally Christmassy but still a real treat - Danish chocolate covered liquorice, particularly salt and caramel flavour!

Takethehuntingquiche · Today 08:06

I really like a pretzel/popcorn mix thing they do in a lot of shops but it's quite expensive for what it is

drspouse · Today 08:27

@NightHeron we have a Card Factory but I've never seen sweets (possibly because I run in, buy a birthday card for a DC friend, and run out).

I am also bad with orange but surprisingly can manage a bit of lemon. Maybe it's because you'd usually squeeze lemon juice in small amounts compared to orange.

Maple brazils- charbonnel & walker do nice ones

Homemade coconut ice (a traditional boiled recipe so it is deliciously crumbly, not a condensed milk recipe which is too sticky)
