Thought I would start this year's thread as there are plenty of folk starting to chat about Christmas makes, bakes and crafts on the Christmas boards.

Wherever you are, Fellatio, here's to you. I hope you're brining a turkey and had crafting authentic organic woven tinsel somewhere!

Here is Fellatio's traditional thread opening:

"OK, first of all, I know it's still September by we need to start this thread now because as you all know, having a truly Poncetastic Christmas involves precision planning, strategy, bravery, heroics, and frequently martyrdom.

So, if you, like me, actually want to make the next twelve weeks of your life a misery by hand-crafting your cards, finding a huge bucket for Nigella's turkey in brine, pickling pears, shrivelling oranges in a low oven for those rustic au naturel decorations, dragging half a holly bush back from the woods, and just generally being a smug annoying jobs worth ponce, join me on this thread.

Feel free to post photos of previous tree-trimming, cake icing or table centrepiece triumphs, discuss this year's bauble colour themes, debate the merits of Delia versus Gordon, road-test a selection of canapés and cocktails, (all in the line of duty) and link to lovely inspirational photos/craft ideas for a truly Poncetastic Christmas.

Warning: If your idea of a good Christmas involves Pizza, ITV, gravy granules or anything with 'Aunt Bessie’s' on the packet, this is not the thread for you"

Welcome, all, and let the Poncing commence!

That all looks amazing @zacsGrannyI especially love the pumpkins, are they crocheted or knitted?

AlicePottery · 18/10/2026 11:54

I've been pruning things in the garden and decided to make a few wreaths from the clippings for future use.

Thank you.
I crocheted them a couple of years ago. Had fun choosing beads and finding bits of wood or using cinnamon sticks for the stalks.

I love all the decorations @zacsGranny. I have some crochet Halloween bunting up in my lounge

Sounds nice.
Any chance of a picture?

Started making chunky felt chains for my SIL.
I found a way to join each link so if she wants she can store them flat and remake each year. I cut a buttonhole slit at one end and tabs at the other then feed the tabs through and flatten. Sorry the photo is a bit dark it’s 3am and I can’t sleep and the light is poor.
Also planned and cut out fabric gift tags for nephews and nieces so they have a decoration to keep.

Fabric gift tags is a brilliant idea! You are very clever. I am finished my pear and happy with it. I intend to make some more over half term next week and I have different colours to use. This week I am focusing on mini seaglass wreath ornaments. I should not be trusted with gorilla glue though!

@RainbowZebraWarrior
I leant on my hot glue gun and branded myself quite severely! I, also, am not to be trusted!

Here is the bunting, not the best photo I'm afraid. It was agree pattern I found on the internet a few years ago

Frumpyunicorn · 23/10/2026 07:10

@Frumpyunicorn oh that's very cute.

zacsGranny · 23/10/2026 10:55

As I've just said on the other thread, I'm doing very simple wrapping this year, then everyone will have a box wrapped in brown paper and tied with a red or green ribbon.
I want to make tags with dried orange slices, spruce sprigs and pine cones with brown luggage tags.
Problem is that I have no pine cones and after my recent surgery, I can't go out and collect some, so have to buy.
Does anyone have any recommendations about the best sellers please?

Lovely ideas!

Hobbycraft had some very decently priced ones last year, and B&Q had some huge bags for a fiver last year (scented) which were then on a 3 for 2 deal with other decorations etc.

I'd offer to get some for you as I go to the woods every day, but they will be soaked now and we are in a weather warning tomorrow and sunday. I'll check my own stash in the conservatory, as, depending how many you need, I should be able to spare 20 or 30

@zacsGranny I've just checked my conservatory as I collected a few bags when the pine cones first fell in August. There's a bag full here of around 30 plus a few dried cobnuts if that would be helpful for you. Happy to pop them in a box and post to you if you PM me your address.

That's the exact ones! That's brilliant timing. I still have the lovely bag mine came in and have been wondering what I can do with it. I'm thinking of filling it with hand and body goodies for my best pal for Christmas 😊

I've been crocheting blankets for my daughter, who has waited years for hers and my Dad and Step mother and parents in law. I came up with the idea to help deplete my yarn stash 😂
My cat likes to help!

The very best type of help 😂

I'm so happy I've found this thread! Was on the verge of deleting Mumsnet as it was getting too much for me.... Hiding all boards except Christmas!

Poncing-wise I've just ordered the 12 days of Xmas embroidery instructions from MMMCrafts on Etsy. Definitely too late to make all 12 but hoping to have one or two made by the time the tree goes up!

We have an absolute glut of apples so off to make the salted caramel streusel bars @RainbowZebraWarrior linked to!

AnneKipankitoo · 24/10/2026 10:23

I know what you mean @NeededANameChangeAnyway .

NeededANameChangeAnyway · 24/10/2026 10:38

@RainbowZebraWarrior how are you making the seaglass wreaths? I have so much seaglass and can't stop picking it up but so far I just have it in jars doing nothing...

ExquisitelyDecorating · 24/10/2026 10:45

Yeah that keeps happing to me when I try and crochet @Cornwallwitch . I am a regular contributor of blankets to the Woolly Hugs charity but at the moment I am trying to make one for my Dad for Christmas, he is in a care home, but I am a bit behind.

Otherwise, I got my forced hyacinths going in their glass holders at the start of September, will bring them out on 1st December. Not much poncing done otherwise but I am thinking about it.
