Wrapping the front door like a Christmas present

Does anyone do this?

I've seen several white doors with red "ribbon" that look like a St George flag. Also seen some that look like Jesus's cross 🙈

I don't like them personally in the same way as I don't like covered chairs at weddings.

A fresh wreath on the front door is the extent of my outdoor decor.

I'm not a fan of the big bows, inflatables, or National Lampoon style lighting displays. A couple of local households do huge garden displays every year. They are tacky as hell but have raised thousands for a local hospice, I take my hat off to them for that.

Aw thanks lovely 👏💛

It rains too much here

I didn’t mean that specifically. Sorry I forgot on mumsnet you have to specifically state what you mean. I meant decoration in general.

And yes some people might be having all kinds of problems as to why they don’t decorate I just mean the people who can’t be fucked, for no other reason than laziness, to decorate.

Why is not decorating lazy? It’s not a lawful obligation. Some people celebrate Christmas and some people don’t feel it enhances their home or their experience of Christmas. My parents are elderly and don’t do it anymore - I will be sure to tell them they are lazy when I see them,
having just had a lovely, peaceful Christmas with them.

This would probably come under the exceptions I mentioned.
People on mumsnet constantly looking for one upmanship. I’m clearly not calling someone’s elderly parents lazy fucks.

I’m 46, live alone, I don’t decorate for Christmas - do I fit any of your exceptions? Or am I lazy too? Given that you’re determining what is/is not lazy for the rest of us.

PeonyPatch · 27/12/2025 18:34

I never used to like them, but I think that on some front doors they look lovely.

Let’s just save the boring answers. You are all lazy fucks. Especially the old, disabled and people that are going through really hard times. They are the most lazy.

ShodAndShadySenators · 27/12/2025 18:40

They're not as popular around our way as they were, far fewer this year. What has boomed in popularity are those light sets with a star shape at the top and several strings coming down from it. There will be more of those next year I'm sure. When I saw them I thought they'd look nice on a rocket shaped conifer tree but people are fixing the top to their house and fanning the strings below on the ground, which I'm not so keen on. Each to their own though, and better than the door ribbon things...

More wreaths on doors though, which is really nice as they all look different and so festive.

Mochudubh · 27/12/2025 18:44

They make me think of this type of thing.

Let's stop using lazy language and calling people 'lazy' just because they don't do the things you do. I wash my car every weekend - couldn't give a crap if others do or don't - doesn't make them lazy, just makes them different to me. Maybe a NY resolution could be not to judge others for stuff that has naff all to do with you?

No thanks. I’d rather be a judgemental fuck than a lazy fuck. #bekind

I have looooads of inflatables, sorry guys! Yes they are tacky but they are so joyful.

No door bow though.

Yes me not decorating my house for Christmas is lazy. Not an active choice that I am allowed to make about my own home and what I do or do not want in it. Please come around and tell me what colour to paint my lounge, given that you think you have an unalienable right to tell people what to do with their own accommodation. #shutupyoulookstupid

Zov · 27/12/2025 21:34

I think it looks great!

Each to their own.

(We don't do it.)

I’m available most evenings to pop over and have a look. Just let me know what works for you.

I'm on leave until 6 January, but free after that. I live by the sea so kind of want green and blue colours? (Tell me if I'm wrong!)

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 27/12/2025 21:40

I think they are fun and they make me smile; although some doors work better than others.

I’m going to say you are wrong. Sounds a very obvious colour choice for a seaside home. Some might even say a lazy choice.

You're allowed to say that. And some might say that, but some people use words incorrectly and don't live by the sea. What would you suggest? Does Dulex do a Judgemental Range? Thinking if they do it would be very murky olive and beige...

ForPearlViper · 27/12/2025 22:07

We had them around here for a few years but none this year. In our exposed weather position it wasn't practical. I really appreciate people going for it at Christmas even if not everything is exactly my taste. I have noticed a couple of garage door wraps (big Santa pictures) and wondered if that was the next trend.

Are you saying murky olive and beige are not nice colours? Sounds a bit judgy.

Specialagentblond · 27/12/2025 22:47

I’ve not seen a single one where we are. I’m sure there are some nice ones and some that aren’t to everyone’s taste. They seem pretty inoffensive to me.

soundsys · 27/12/2025 22:49

I think they look really tacky tbh but I also feel like whatever makes people happy, I guess

Not many where I am because I live somewhere wet and windy so they wouldn't last long!
