Went to work this morning, 12.30 came home, sorted Yorkshire mix out, quickly ate something, took the dog for a walk, tidied the kitchen after dd13 kindly sorted all the veg. Bless them dd & ds17 put the gammon on as my mum had to pop out unexpectedly. Bloody thing took ages to boil finally in the oven. Finished the yorkies. Mix made 27 4 accidently fell into various mouths hoovered until the battery died half way. Arranged the presents under the tree nicely so they weren’t all just in bag for life. About to order my mammoth Chinese. Picking it up then coming home and doing absolutely nothing until I go to bed 😂
how’s your Christmas Eve going 😂😂

Drove back from Wales to Essex (work trip) this morning at 4am! Got to M&S just after 7am and picked up our food order. Prepped all the food, transported it to a relatives (bigger house, but we’re cooking) had a 3 hour nap. Went to my mums and organised our wedding album.

just got back. Now settled with a bath running, clean pyjamas and some picky bits for dinner!

Spent most of the day cleaning. We have guests coming on Boxing Day and I don’t want to be scrubbing toilets and hoovering stairs on Christmas Day so I blitzed the house today.
Of course DH couldn’t get his head around this (“What’s the rush? They’re not coming until Friday…”) so I got minimal help.
It got better though. Had chicken and chips for tea and watched Spirited. DH made me a snowball which just about stopped me from smothering him with a stuffed Santa cushion.

Children upstairs getting ready for bed, inlaws (old) fussing about upstairs before going to bed, dog in bed, cat half asleep, DH sent to get presents from chest in garage to put under tree, sat on sofa in the kitchen with a cup of tea. Pretty much sorted.

Prepped beautiful table yesterday. Started at 9.30 this am as the one thing asked my husband to do, he got the wrong thing. 👌 Walked back with two massive bags of cheeses etc. came home had lunch by husband with a mouthful of shit attitude. Great.
Having dinner for 10 tomorrow so chopped and prepped carrots, spuds, parsnips all ready to go in oven. In between went into town and got 8 last min presents that had to wrap argh. Helped daughter sort out room for two hours. Put bedding in washer/dryer. Did last bits in kitchen like put gravy and carrots in pans ready to go. Husband doing meats. Ds 1 cooked dinner. Ds2 will do rest of vegetables tomorrow and Ds1 starter & cocktails. I plan to get up at 10, get brekkie in bed, get ready slowly and hit the Advocaat and lemonade from 12!! Enjoy ladies and sleep well tonight xxxx

Up early and into our nearest city for the Xmas Eve panto plus a quick visit to PIL (separated so it’s two visits!).
home and picked up a Chinese for supper then out to our local Christmas Eve parade in the town.
quickly home to visit grandmother, then back to our house to sort the carrot, milk and cookies for Santa and put DD to bed.
rush to move stuff around living room and lay out presents etc and now finally in bed at 10pm
no food prep at all done. Will all need done tomorrow…

Up at 5, drove husband to station as he worked today. Carried on to supermarket and arrived as it opened at 6. Home 7:45, unpacked shopping, cleaned out guinea pigs for Christmas, several lots of washing throughout the day, made soup for lunch, 2 1/2 hour round trip to pick up my mum, made mince pies, went for a short walk with mum, then roasted gammon for hot ham rolls for dinner, collected husband from station, collapsed on sofa for the evening. Tomorrow will be much easier! I don’t pre prep food for Christmas Day as it’s just 5 of us so easy enough to do on the day.

Awake at 7.30. Worked from 9 to 3. Popped to Lidl on the way home. Went to my brothers from 5 to 9 (20 mins away). Came home & have had some wines & am now contemplating bed.

DH off work today until 5 January. Collected all the food orders etc. We spent 3 hours cleaning house.

Smoked salmon canapes with champagne and had cinnamon buns from bakers

At 4.30 I was racing to get in the car to collect my son from the ferry (hour and a half away). Now after steak dinner (him), omelettes for me and DD, he’s snoring next to me on the sofa , my DD has gone to bed, and I’m watching the very average Tinsel Town movie.

Still presents to wrap, youngest dc baby been ill all day and trying to get her to sleep, working in the morning too (split shift) so really need my sleep as very responsible/technical job. Hubby now wrapping presents (although job he hates) Feeling quite burnt out and overwhelmed by everything there’s been to do this month. Don’t feel have had a spare minute to have prepped more then have. Considering not wrapping the baby’s presents to save time

NotQuiteUsual · 24/12/2025 23:36

Had a lovely day. It was ds10's birthday and we had the most relaxed day. He had his big celebration at the weekend, so today was much more chilled. Pizza Hut for tea and then home to decorate biscuits. Kids all fell asleep by half 9 so we could put the presents out and be in bed at a reasonable time. But I'm I'm excited to give my gifts out I can't sleep!!

DrPrunesqualer · 24/12/2025 23:36

Gosh you’ve all been so busy !

We really haven’t done much at all

Had to pop to Tescos as our eldest son’s present for one of his brothers was half eaten and dragged across his bedroom to a hole in his floor by what must be a very large and fit mouse. ( I suspect it’s a rat ) We are rural and there’s a hole in the chimney in the empty room below his….long story.
Dh plugged the whole and put a heavy coal scuttle on top

Then just wrapped presents and had a Sherry or two.
All the food will be done tomorrow. I still have the main, a veggie chestnut roast, to make.

Waiting for everyone to get their act together now to head out to midnight mass.

Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow !!

Merry Christmas everyone on Mumsnet!

Yesterday, we went food/ drink shopping.Went over budget by 75.00 my husband wanted to spend more on alcohol, than I planned.
He then spent another 40.00 on a surprise gift, when I asked him not to?

It's been a horrible day, our daughter & partner are living with us, it's a challenge. They can be quite entitled, example using the washing machine numerous times, ordering takeaways, showering up to a hour each time, other stuff!.

This afternoon, they were in the lounge, watching you tube, eating a takeaway. It's just that the lounge smells of takeaway, it's really unpleasant.

We have another older TV, that has been under the stairs.I thought it may be a good idea to put a extra TV in the dinning room, for Christmas as our TV viewing habits are very different. It seemed to annoy our daughter?

The problem is I am not very techy. We had a job getting the tv to connect to WiFi.After spending 2-3 hrs, I said to my husband,I'm going for a shower. Our Daughter & partner left us to it, which annoyed me slightly. Apparently they went to sleep?

To be honest, I am feeling very frustrated & Pssd o*f. I have not eaten all day, but did have a large vodka & coke earlier!

Husband, managed to connect the TV.He has been watching sports, like everything is normal.
I have sat in my bedroom, feeling very sorry for my self?

Daughter, partner and I are now not talking.I have not made any prep for tomorrow.

We did not go to midnight mass,as planned.Octopus energy have just sent me a email, to advise I need to send a meter reading on Christmas eve! Great, I now owe them over £300+

Hope you are having a better Christmas than the one I'm having!

Welcome to my world!
