Went to work this morning, 12.30 came home, sorted Yorkshire mix out, quickly ate something, took the dog for a walk, tidied the kitchen after dd13 kindly sorted all the veg. Bless them dd & ds17 put the gammon on as my mum had to pop out unexpectedly. Bloody thing took ages to boil finally in the oven. Finished the yorkies. Mix made 27 4 accidently fell into various mouths hoovered until the battery died half way. Arranged the presents under the tree nicely so they weren’t all just in bag for life. About to order my mammoth Chinese. Picking it up then coming home and doing absolutely nothing until I go to bed 😂
how’s your Christmas Eve going 😂😂

Dropped daughter off at work at 9.30am, came home and had a late breakfast. Took Chicken out to be defrosted. Husband toodled off to work at 1pm and I've been home alone with 3 cats for company ever since. Ive been chilling out watching tv and reading. Husband home from work just after 1am so will be in bed asleep when he gets home. Daughter at her Fiances familys house tonight.
Christmas is just another day for us here.

Meadowfinch · 24/12/2025 18:11

I've just spent an hour dismantling and clearing the filters of my dishwasher. It was full of dirty water and not draining. 🙄

I've just set it going again. Fingers crossed.

All my children work shifts so Christmases are always staggered. DH and I had Christmas lunch yesterday. My two eldest came today with their children. The adults had a Christmas Dinner and the rest of us had cold. We are on our own tomorrow so Turkey casserole. Boxing Day we are at DDs for 3rd Christmas dinner.

Mikart · 24/12/2025 18:12

Arrived at holiday cottage 4pm. Had bottle of wine. Cook curries in the oven

EcoCustard · 24/12/2025 18:13

4 over tired & excited children, the ham is cooking, still have a bike & scooter to build & a few presents to wrap. However, the Cremant is going down a treat & DH is fetching pizza as it’s going to be a long night. Dh & I will be more organised next year! Ddog is happy though as the kids & I took him on a 2hour walk to the beach earlier whilst DH was working as they were very bouncy! I feel better for a long walk. It will all come together & then tomorrow I can relax until new year.

TicklishPlumOtter · 24/12/2025 18:14

I got home from work about half an hour ago. Had a couple chocolates and now I’m preparing to shower (I really can’t be bothered but the hair needs washing!) and putting my washing away. Then it’s an evening of skincare and Bridgerton for me

Timeforanotheraliasnow · 24/12/2025 18:14

Tidied the house, cleaned the kitchen especially the oven, laid the table for tomorrow. Pork & gammon defrosting. Wine now open, movie on. Good luck everyone.

00deed1988 · 24/12/2025 18:15

I am about to leave for work. Will finish at 7:30am. Have got veg prepped. Yorkshire mix made. Baked a chocolate cake (family favourite). All presents are wrapped and ready for my husband to put out. I am wearing my PJs to work (will change to uniform) so I can wear them straight home and plan for the the morning is open presents with some bucks fizz, make the yorkshires, put on the meat and go to bed for a couple of hours until meat is done and then get up and finish off the dinner. My husband can make it and has before....but we all prefer mine so I don't mind doing it, just we will have a bit later!

Everything going really nicely until the oven decided to stop work at around noon. Shit. Have come up with an alternative plan for food on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Determined not to be stressed! Thank goodness it’s only nuclear family tomorrow so not hosting hordes of people! On the up side I’ve wrapped all the presents !

If you have a bbq can you cook some steaks or similar? We did that last new years day as was dry - was a bit different but nice. Did lamb chump chops, but wouldn't work if having a turkey! Hope you get something sorted.

SirChenjins · 24/12/2025 18:17

I'm feeling absolutely awful because DH has passed on the fucking Christmas cold he has brought home every year like clockwork for the last 30 years. DH is in a bit of a huff because I laughed at him crying at the scene in Meet Me in St Louis where the dad decides they will stay there rather than moving to NY. The DC are either on their way here after work or visiting girlfriends' families. The dog is having his pre bedtime nap. I'm just about to start putting together the Christmas Eve buffet.

Cherrybomb00 · 24/12/2025 18:17

Got up at 7:30, watched the kids open their Christmas Eve box. Was in M&S just after 8 collecting the pre ordered turkey and gammon. Logged on at 9, did a couple of emails. Management let us knock off at 12.
Ironed the Christmas table linen and set the table for tomorrow, hoovered the whole house, emptied the bins and cleaned the toilets. Watched Home Alone with the DCs, demolished half a tin of Quality Street. Had beige party food for dinner, about to have a shower & then watch some more TV with a glass of wine. When the kids are asleep I’ll move the presents under the tree, thought I’d finished wrapping but found 2 stray presents today.

LightBlueJeans · 24/12/2025 18:23

Woke up this morning in our new house - boxes and chaos everywhere as I came down with a horrible tummy bug the day after moving and am only just coming out the other side of that. Hot water stopped working last night so have had an emergency plumber out this afternoon!! DS fortunately too young to know that it is Christmas tomorrow. Hopefully Christmas will be much healthier and more festive next year 🙏

Lemonyyy · 24/12/2025 18:24

Been cooking most of the day, tomorrow is just nuclear family but wider fam later in the week so made various things I can reheat on the day so I am not stuck in the kitchen when they’re here! Then went to church and then had a drink with friends, now back home about to have a buffet. Kids go to bed about 9 so I’ll watch carols at kings on catch up and finish stockings with a glass of wine!

TheNameWasOnceChosen · 24/12/2025 18:29

Went out shopping with my sister who is kindly doing dinner at hers (again)... just did a quick shop for things that other shops run out of. Popped in to see mum, then back to my sisters of a cuppa. Feeling guilty for having her cook it all (I have had a stroke) although I'm doing all the starters because no cooker for them!!

Moaning5 · 24/12/2025 18:29

I took worked this morning (from home), finished the ironing, walked my dogs in the winter sun, brought my horse in, popped to M&S which looked a bit worse for wear (no bargains sadly). Now I’m watching Wallace & Gromit and just glad the overhyped run up that’s lasted for months is finally OVER !

Boxiboxi21 · 24/12/2025 18:33

Not too badly. First Christmas without my Mum. Done my crying for the day (i think? Always room for some more!) Carols from Kings surely got out the last of it. Overstretched myself as usual with experimental baking this afternoon but my mince pies worked okayish and my strawberry/cherry black forest hybrid trifle is coming out well!
Got DP coming home with dinner soon and we'll watch thr film series I'm hooked on.

Victoriangirl91 · 24/12/2025 18:39

I went to see The Housemaid at the cinema this afternoon whilst my parents went to the shops and starting the food preparations.

Kickinthenostalgia · 24/12/2025 18:51

Luckily I finished everything beforehand, because I officially can not move after the Chinese. I was starving as only had a quick sausage roll for lunch and a kinder bueno for breakfast before work. My mum just put on carols from kings to wind my sister up as she walked in the door, the reaction was priceless 😂 dd is now doing my sisters last minute wrapping as she loves it. We are watching festive tv and basically taking the piss out of everything and anything… my brother is due here soon so will only get worse.

@Victoriangirl91 Was it good?. All my family are off skiing for a few days leaving boxing day and this is on my list of things to do.

MadisonAvenue · 24/12/2025 19:45

We’ve just been to the pub, it’s a tradition now our kids are adults to go to the pub on Christmas Eve teatime and have always had lovely evenings with our sons.
It’s not worked out too well this year though.
We recently moved house to a different area and there are two pubs in walking distance so we chose to go to the larger one (the other is a very small village pub and we didn’t think we’d get in).

It was rammed, which was good to see with the problems hospitality have, so we got our drinks from the bar and stood in a corner of the lounge for a while until a table came free. We sat there for 15 minutes and were about to go to the bar for more drinks when a staff member came to each table and said that they were about to close the lounge so that they could prep the tables ready for tomorrow and could we move to the very narrow, noisy and jam packed bar area. We came home instead as there was no room at all in there, not even anywhere to stand, and most other people in the lounge finished their drinks and were getting their coats on to leave too.

Going to open the Quality St and watch TV instead.

ResusciAnnie · 24/12/2025 19:50

Well my mum put some presents under the tree with tags saying ‘from father christmas’ which sent DS1 spiralling and confused and verge of upset! Fucks sake! We also have a 3 year old so she should know as a household we are all deeply into the Father Christmas magic!! Honestly WTF. She keeps almost ruining it.
Also she bought loads of stuff for the kids’ stockings (that she made, absolutely massive and impossible to fill) - I’ve been frantically trying to buy non-shit to fill these fuckers for weeks, had she simply let me know she was bringing stuff then she could have saved me a job! But I can’t say that because it would be ungrateful 🙄
Oh and they both scrape their knives into their plates and have ‘thin cheeks’ so I can hear them eating.

LUCKILY for everyone, we’re all multi-faceted human beings with many redeeming features. If not, I would have killed someone by now.

WhiteJeans7 · 24/12/2025 20:26

Curled up on the sofa of our holiday cottage after our traditional Christmas Eve dinner (cheesy pasta and trifle) watching Uncle Buck. Today we went to Elf School, DD played at the park and we saw Santa drive up to the village and had a Christmas sing along as the sun went down. It's been a pretty good one, and magical for DD (nearly 6 and who has had a tough year).

Thanks! We’ve come up with something that just uses the cooker top. Just grateful we don’t have guests tbh!! Merry Christmas to you 🥂

Had my parents round for food which was nice then came to bed with the kids at 7pm - DD2 (5) asleep within minutes. DD1 (6) still WIDE awake waving her arms in the air like a windmill while I am curled up at the bottom of the bed dreaming of the food downstairs and my glass of wine, the presents I have to sort and everything else. I feel you!

Currently in the chair in my DD9's room, who despite only sleeping from 10.30-5.30 last night, is still awake and keeps talking to me (she's AuDHD and Christmas is just too much excitement for her to bear!).

We were out in the fresh air for three hours this morning, and despite seemingly having a dip mid-afternoon, she has since perked up and the crash I was hoping for expecting has not yet materialised. DS7 I think is thankfully asleep.

I still have two of their presents to wrap and DH's, plus actually filling the stockings etc... And for some godforsaken reason, decided to wash my bedsheets today so also have to put those back on 😬
