Christmas food shop done for our family of 5 including a ham, beef joint, two options for the Vegan eaters approx452 pigs in blankets and all the other trimmings however we have decided to play a bit of Christmas Eve, mid afternoon M&S roulette to see if we can pick up a bargain or two for over the festive period, including a possible main for myself and DH for Christmas Day.

No pressure as the fridge is full and there are other meat options but the element of a rouge/surprise option feels quite fun.

DH is going to try the one in an industrial park which is bigger but more accessible for cars where as DD18 and I are going to go for a Christmas cocktail and opt for the city centre store.

As Christmas Eve bargain hunter virgins, I do have question.

What time is best to go? I imagine things will get priced/reduced throughout the day but are the real bargains just before closing or shall we get there earlier.

Managing our expectations what bargains have people found before, DH is all about the meat, DD’s the desserts and myself the cheese board goods, who is going to be happy?

Tell me about your experiences if you done and let me know any bargains that you managed to grab.

Sainsbury’s was rubbish. Went at 6.15pm (they close at 7pm) as I needed something for tea after original plan fell through. Hardly a bargain in sight.

Nothing today but best I had was one christmas eve, first thing in the morning.

Practically all meat/ready meals and other assorted items were 75% off. I got about 6 turkey crowns, dozens of packs of mince, chicken breasts, pork chops plus pizzas and ready meals. I spent £120 so saved a fortune and there was plenty left for other people. I filled up both freezers at home and it lasted us (a family of 3) for nearly a year.

There was nothing when I went -it was last minute as we have all been ill / away / working. Never been let down before leaving it late - until today. 😵‍💫

That's crap for you. £120 is atrocious. Think I'd have chosen this year to have an alternative Christmas dinner like a vegetarian main for everyone!
I was in Tesco at about 1.30 pm yesterday (CE) and they had no turkeys at that point, just one solitary ham thing on the shelf.

I got an bunch of party food, some fruit and 50% off at 11am in Aldi, all dated christmas day or the 26th, there were a bunch of turkeys and veg sides but I was all sorted for that. I was very envious of the woman I saw with the huge beef wellington, that would've gone down a treat on new years day

I had to go out because I ran out of wrapping paper. I had bought enough but I just couldn't find it at home. I went to Aldi because unlike their wrap paper virtually nothing left but I did get 3 snacks packs of grapes for 17p each, hummus for 23p, protein noodles meals x 2 for 60p each, asparagus for half price and a huge pork pie for 75 percent off. I had to go to Asda for wrapping paper and I got if for half price. I picked up 12 rolls so enough for next year as 3 rolls are 8 metres long.

at 5pm yesterday Got a half price turkey in Waitrose for £65!
8kg. it was the very last turkey they had!
(there was one turkey crown as well)

Aldi had 3 turkeys at half price at 4 o’clock - nearly bought one but I wanted to see if I could get one dated past the 26th.

i found out that none of them seem to sell a fresh turkey dated after the 26th because they know you won’t be able to keep it cool and it should be cooked within 24 hours!
interested to hear any views on this?

I went out yesterday morning to get a couple of essentials - at about 9:30. We’ve got a local M & S and a Waitrose and both had loads of yellow stickers! Sadly I didn’t need anything and had neither fridge nor freezer space, but I did buy some very reduced double cream, some chicken thighs, and in Waitrose all the fresh fish was hugely marked down. Salmon was reduced from something like £18.60 a kg to £8.60, so I got the lady to weigh two whopping steaks and bought them as, at £6.88, it seemed silly not to 😂 I did just manage to wrangle them into the freezer.

Had I wanted whole chickens there were loads reduced. Tons of things like coleslaw and salady things in pots. Sandwiches. I’ve never seen so much reduced so early on a Christmas Eve.

Went to M&S this morning and it was yellow sticker heaven! Got half a dressed lobster, lobster tails, a 3 fish roast, nut roast and other seasonal veg at 75% off. This will see us through entertaining family and friends over the next week and into my January birthday
