Anyone fancy joining in for a spot of Christmas Eve, yellow sticker Roulette

Christmas food shop done for our family of 5 including a ham, beef joint, two options for the Vegan eaters approx452 pigs in blankets and all the other trimmings however we have decided to play a bit of Christmas Eve, mid afternoon M&S roulette to see if we can pick up a bargain or two for over the festive period, including a possible main for myself and DH for Christmas Day.

No pressure as the fridge is full and there are other meat options but the element of a rouge/surprise option feels quite fun.

DH is going to try the one in an industrial park which is bigger but more accessible for cars where as DD18 and I are going to go for a Christmas cocktail and opt for the city centre store.

As Christmas Eve bargain hunter virgins, I do have question.

What time is best to go? I imagine things will get priced/reduced throughout the day but are the real bargains just before closing or shall we get there earlier.

Managing our expectations what bargains have people found before, DH is all about the meat, DD’s the desserts and myself the cheese board goods, who is going to be happy?

Tell me about your experiences if you done and let me know any bargains that you managed to grab.

I've just got in from Aldi..it closes 6pm. Not a single bargain to be had...bit miffed!

Must have just been your Aldi. Ours had most of its Christmas stock and fresh fruit down to 75% off at 11am this morning!

Bah...the rotten buggers. All Christmas stuff still full price Angry

Quite a lot of yellow sticker stuff in our local M&S Food store at about 4.30pm (we're in NI). I went to get more butter and came out with a Collection brussels sprout and leek gratin thing reduced from £10 to £2 and the 'shimmering clementine cheesecake' reduced from £15 to £3.20. Didn't particularly need either but we're hosting a lot of people tonight, tomorrow and Boxing Day so they'll get used up. There were lots of ready meals, fresh vegetables, deli type stuff, sandwiches and other Christmas desserts like the chocolate torte and lemon mascarpone cake all reduced as well.

Last year my best yellow sticker find was the day after Boxing Day, I went in for bread and inadvertently timed it perfectly - I got a large fresh Oakham turkey crown reduced from £60 to £10.80, and the chocolate pine cones down from £15 to £1.20.

Tesco was rubbish. Think I went in a little too early.

pets at home had all their valentines stuff out though

Seen a fb post today to say that M&S are starting their reductions at 3pm!

They reduce all day but 3pm might be the lowest time

We went in at 3:15 to our local M&S and the only yellow labels were on normal pizzas. The shop was heaving with people buying xmas things at full price though, so I guess that particular store had no need to reduce things anyway as a lot of the fresh aisles were already quite sparse..

CoffeeSparkle · 24/12/2025 19:43

Waitrose: spotted half price nut roasts, goose, turkey.

JennyForeigner · 24/12/2025 19:52

M&S was a let down today - they seem to have changed their model near us to less overtly Christmassy stuff, so less selling off in turn. I went to Waitrose instead and came good with sea bream for dinner and a large turkey pie for tomorrow for £3.

Holding a freezer draw ready for discounted stilton - it freezes so well and lasts us all year.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 24/12/2025 19:54

Was in Sainsbury's at 615pm (closing at 7), no yellow stickers to be seen!

SatsumaCandlesCloves · 24/12/2025 20:03

@Hyroxer i really liked the look of that cheesecake but DH wanted the toffee trifle can you report back

Riverswims · 24/12/2025 20:05

I used to love a yellow sticker dinner from Sainsbury’s after work. enjoy whatever you get

Why has Pets at Home got Valentine's Day stuff out? For the dogs to send cards to the cats?

JengaNonConfirming · 24/12/2025 20:14

We went to Aldi this morning, just to see if we could get any bargains. We got a fresh turkey crown, only small but £6 down from £15, two trays of roast potatoes in goose fat, 75p each, half price braised red cabbage and reduced gravy and cauliflower cheese. That's Sunday lunch for the 3 of us taken care of 😄

PopcornKitten · 24/12/2025 21:30

Veg for free in Asda. Big sign saying ‘we hate food waste’
turkey reduced from £34 to £4!

We opened it after dinner this evening, it's very nice! I like citrussy stuff anyway but it was a hit with everyone. It's quite light and fresh, not too heavy or rich so good for something sweet after a big dinner. It's a decent size too, we're not measly portion people and there's loads left. For £3 it was a total bargain but even at full price I think I'd buy it again.

AInightingale · 24/12/2025 21:54

I've never got a bargain this way - I think the staff might get the best reduced stuff as a kind of perk/thank you for working such hellish shifts.

Things like nuts that are quite expensive to buy normally I've found going cheaply in M&S and Tesco after Xmas if they've been packaged in Christmassy-style wrappers. Also got one of those 'Christmas' cat treat packages for £1.50 in Tesco which was originally priced at about £6.00 and that was my best ever post-Christmas bargain!

MrsZiggywinkle · 24/12/2025 22:18

We went to Waitrose and M&S from 4.30pm and literally found nothing.

Last year I was in M&S at 6pm and there were yellow stickers everywhere. I got some amazing bargains.

I have no idea when the best time to go is.

ChaliceinWonderland · 24/12/2025 22:25

Was in mns after 5pm, lots of yellow stickers. Coq san jacques for 4£.
Hurrah!

SatsumaCandlesCloves · 24/12/2025 22:26

sciaticafanatica · 24/12/2025 17:51

Dd1 got this lot this morning

Wow that’s an amazing haul!!

Hippywannabe · 24/12/2025 23:06

Rubbish bargain box really- 1 bag of 5 p potatoes, 1 5p swede, 2 5p bags of sprouts, 1 bag of carrots, 1 bag of baking potatoes, a squashed hummus and a tiramasu which was squished.Hummus and tiramsu dated today.
Saw all the boxes and they were the same- veg and a pudding.
Do have a New Year's Eve box booked but not sure if I will cancel it.

Nothing in Altrincham in Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Aldi or M+S - even to buy at full price. No ‘big meats’ at all. We ended up driving miles away and buying a £120 turkey which was all that was available anywhere.

😮You had no other turkey?! M&S had them for £60 this pm and I thought that was bad enough!

patooties · 25/12/2025 00:42

There was nothing when I went -it was last minute as we have all been ill / away / working. Never been let down before leaving it late - until today. 😵‍💫
