manipulative MIL

So rant alert. I have cooked the christmas dinner for everyone for the last 27 years - except one when MIL did it. Every year which ever grandparent is coming christmas day buys the turkey(we have each set alternate years). Now MIL has rung this morning to see if i want any veg from the farm (she gets the turkey from the farm to prove how superior she is to my mum who gets it from Aldi). Now this may seem a helpful thing to offer to do. However, what it really means is , "i do not approve that you have bought premade cauliflowercheese and red cabbage from Marks and spencers, I think you should be making 12 vegetables from scratch". This is just one example of the things she will do over christmas. So come on am I the only one with a manipulative MIL? She will arrive with a turkey and trifle and act like she cooks the whole bloody dinner!

She may be manipulative or she may honestly just want different veg/ hinting you could do different veg. Manipulative does sound like a stretch!!!

MIL’s are irritating OP. They just are. Just smile and wave .

No thank you - carry on!
You are welcome. MIL can't win can she?

Wow, getting a nice quality turkey and offering to buy veg while she's at it, what a bitch. You should definitely go low contact. She might bring chocolates without asking or something, then what would you do? Christmas ruined.

Before they were veggie pil used to bring a turkey from their local farm (they live rurally we don't) it was lovely.
I also think eating premade cauliflower cheese for 27 years wouldn't be my choice, I would however offer to bring a homemade one rather than component parts, but you'd probably be offended by that too. YABU

I love the 'cooking the whole bloody thing'....perhaps some credit can go to Marks when you pop in their ready cooked veg to warm and MIL's turkey. It's only a Sunday roast...

I would plan an entire different meal and get everything ready-made to shut her up 😂

But seriously, I would pity her if she think there's pride in making all your vegetable dish from scratch and she has nothing interesting in her life. It only becomes a competition if you let it

I must have a boring life with not much going on as well. Pre-made cauliflower cheese is horrible. The cauliflower always has an overcooked, soggy texture.

But you do you and continue to judge people who prefer good food.

Oh I have touched a nerve. I wasn't even commenting on people who like food and like to cook - there wouldn't be any decent restaurants if some people were not fabulous cooks.

I was laughing at someone with so little life and few manners who dare commenting or make it obvious "i do not approve that you have bought premade ...I think you should be making 12 vegetables from scratch" when they are a guest in somebody's house.

Cauliflower cheese is rank anyway, homemade or shop bought 😂
