Sooo other than a bracelet and some Lego I'm stumped. She likes art, crafts, music and books. But everything art wise looks too young or too mature and boring. Tips needed please!!

Crochet seems to be popular at the moment (maybe just in my son’s school) so maybe a crochet set?

BeansAndNoodles · 14/12/2025 08:34

Fancy pens. A massive set of Sharpies, or some Posca pens, or some good quality fine liners. Get the branded ones because, sorry to say, they're much better and for someone who enjoys using them the knock offs are a heartsink gift because they're always shit quality.

Good quality spiral bound sketchbook.

Isadora2007 · 14/12/2025 08:35

posca pens, air pods and a Spotify subscription, clothes, sports/drinking bottle for water, a manga drawing guide book and set of black pens, book vouchers, a reading journal, a kindle and Amazon vouchers…

Candleabra · 14/12/2025 08:35

Cross stitch, or a tapestry?
Does she like cooking? A nice cookbook perhaps?

soddingspiderseason · 14/12/2025 08:36

One of the Paperblanks diaries? Both my girls at that age enjoyed keeping a secret diary, and the Paperblank ones are really lovely.

BeansAndNoodles · 14/12/2025 08:36

Oh just remembered one year my very arty DD was really chuffed when someone gave her a spiral bound sketchbook with black paper and some white and metallic fine liners. She really enjoyed using those.

Evenmoretired44 · 14/12/2025 08:37

Book vouchers so she can go and choose some.
Folio society books make great gifts

I suspect you don't know many 13 year olds if you think they'd appreciate a Folio Society book...

This. Teens love heading into town after Xmas to spend their cash/ vouchers ime. Maybe a voucher for a coffee shop too to make the trip even more enjoyable x

maslinpan · 14/12/2025 08:40

How well do you know her? Find out her favourite authors and take it from there, a decent bookshop may be able to suggest different authors. Band t shirt if she is really into a band, Etsy is full of stuff for crafting.

Jugendstiel · 14/12/2025 08:40

Go to Cass Art and buy her some good sketchbooks, different types of pencils, pens and pastels to experiment with.

Maybe look for a good jewellery, soap or candle-making kit.

A cosy hoodie/socks/slippers to work in, as you can get quite cold sitting still doing craft.

Find out what books she likes and buy the newest ones published this winter that she's unlikely to have read.

WonderingWanda · 14/12/2025 08:43

Would she be interested in a sewing machine? Or one of these knitting looms
https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/knitting-machine-loom/6794451000.html one of my students was wearing a lovely snood she'd made one one of those the other day.

If she likes music a decent blue tooth speaker for her room. Some nice lighting so she can sit and listen to music. My teens both love lava lamps.

Knitting Machine Loom | Hobbycraft

Buy Knitting Machine Loom at Hobbycraft.

If she likes reading then I recommend a charity shop haul. It's a good way to try different authors/genres. My daughter has found some books she's really enjoyed that way. Anything that wasn't to her taste went back to the charity shop! There are plenty of books in there for less than £1 many of them look new

My daughter likes making birthday cards for her friends. A pack of blank cards is a good starting point. Then you can add what you don't already have. Washi tape is good for card making. You can get nice foil stickers that say Happy Birthday etc

My daughter also enjoyed needle felting. I got her a little kit to make a Christmas decoration. She then made more for grandparents as presents

Mine would. I teach several that would. What a depressing attitude that a beautiful book would be universally rejected.

OP, what about a sewing machine? Or jewellery making, or an experience day?

Backpack.

superbakedpotato · 14/12/2025 10:03

Look at the book charts, see if there's any books you think she'd enjoy. The Crafty Stitch do some lovely crochet and knitting kits for beginners - DH got me a crochet scarf kit last year, you can choose the colours yourself which is nice. Sculpd do a fun little candle making kit where get the kit to make the pottery candle holder as well as the candle to go inside.

Is she into board games at all? There's some brilliant games that would be fun to play together on Christmas day - quick, easy to learn games we love are The Chamelion, The Mind, Poetry for Neanderthals and Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza. All pretty inexpensive and available on Amazon.

At that age (or even now), I'd have also loved general stationary - pastel coloured highlighters, colourful gel pens, cute notepads, patterned washi tape, would all make good stocking fillers.

Pineapplesunshine · 14/12/2025 10:13

Lots of great ideas already, but maybe a craft project that leads to an item - so a sewing kit that involves embroidering a bag or a cushion? There are some nice kits on not on the high street and Amazon. In terms of games, my two teens like Uno no mercy and Wavelength at the moment.

Without trying to sound like a wanker, my 13 year old has a couple of Folio Society books that she really likes- they appeal to side of her that enjoys reading, beautiful objects, adult things, heirlooms. She likes arranging her mantelpiece to look pretty and arty, and they are part of that vibe.
Though I feel Posca pens are a great idea and likely a safer bet if you're not sure.
