Do you wrap Santa gifts?

Whichone2024 · 12/12/2025 19:23

Just curious really -
growing up for me they were never wrapped, but there was one main Santa gift sitting beside the stocking. For DH there was a sackful of unwrapped smaller gifts from Santa.
Now we do Santa leaves a stocking and wraps one gift in different paper and hides it amongst the other gifts under the tree (we have big family both sides so they get another gift from us, one from each of their siblings, then gifts from gp’s, aunties, godparents etc.)
the main gift is usually from us and something smaller form Santa.

Our Santa uses red and white striped paper because that seemed the easiest to replicate each year lol. We have personalised gift tags that came in packs big enough to last their whole childhood lol.
what do you guys do?

Yes even though no one believes in Father Christmas here anymore. He still brings the kids a stocking the same as he always did and everything in them is wrapped.
He never brought the ‘big presents’ here anyway, they’ve always been from us or whoever else they were from.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/12/2025 19:37

Yes, but when dds still believed I used different, cheaper paper from the other presents, and they weren’t wrapped so carefully - no point when it was all ripped off so fast…

So happy to finally hear of someone who's Christmas gift situation is just like ours! Was starting to feel like the odd one out buying just 1 gift from us with other gifts from relatives and friends under the tree.
I was having the same dilemma re: Santa gifts 🤣

Itwillnotbe · 12/12/2025 19:42

Yes.

Each child has a different colour of paper so that labels are not needed.

BeaRightThere · 12/12/2025 19:44

No, Santa gifts are never wrapped.

catontheironingboard · 12/12/2025 19:46

I used to wrap the “big present” and the stocking presents from Santa in wrapping paper with Santas on - usually easy to find some - and keep it separate!

I know I am an overthinker - but I used to wrap the Santa gifts in Santa paper until I randomly had a thought one day that if I was Santa I would not give people gifts with my face all over it and I know I’m ridiculous lol. DH thinks I’m mad but just goes along with it 😂

I wanted to do that but DH wasn’t keen on it and preferred it more random. Everything we do now is sort of a compromise of our own childhood memories and preferences and so this is where we are at.
he did also think I didn’t need different wrap for Santa but we went with my preference on that!

I think we will keep doing Santa too :)
the oldest know now but of course we will still keep it up for the youngest and by the time they grow up I feel it would be too late to changed anything lol. Doesn’t matter how old they are - they say they want the same for their little sibling but I think they still like certain tradition for themselves too :)

Nope. He didn't wrap them when I was little and I've done the same - we got stockings with unwrapped presents, and wrapped presents under the tree labelled from parents, relatives etc.

BooksAndHooks · 12/12/2025 21:20

Yes I bulk bought some giant wrapping paper rolls of some beautiful wrapping paper and kept it just for the stocking presents every year. Only things unwrapped were the satsuma, chocolate coins etc.

GooseOnMyGrave · 12/12/2025 21:20

Yes! Of course gifts from Father Christmas are wrapped. They also go in a pillow case at the foot of the bed and are not under the tree. Just smaller / cheaper presents and the main presents from us.

CheeseNinja · 12/12/2025 21:21

Yes with different wrapping paper

Whichone2024 · 12/12/2025 21:35

Oh the gifts in the stockings are not wrapped.
just the other gift.
they only ask for one gift from Santa though so the stocking gifts are all surprises (mixture of consumables, and things we know they would use/enjoy - eg bath bomb, chocolate coins, card games, calculator, mini figures .. etc .

I love hearing how differently everyone does it

No wrapping here (or when I was growing up) Various bits are in the stockings then usually one main is left by the relevant stocking. It's always casually presented because, obviously, Santa is in a huge rush.

CoodleMoodle · 12/12/2025 21:49

Santa only brings the stockings here, and he "helps" me and DH find the DC's main present.

Stocking presents are wrapped, main presents not as they're usually too big or awkward (previous examples: easel, scooter, keyboard, Hot Wheels garage, play kitchen). They sit in the front room under blankets which are whipped off by the DC after we come downstairs.

Everything under the tree is from us or family, so all wrapped.

Oh this is EXACTLY how it was for me growing up!

Oh blankets are a good idea for awkwardly wrapped presents!

Yes.

Each child has a different colour of paper so that labels are not needed.

This is how we did it re the wrapping paper negating the need for labels.

Santa left a small stocking in the bedroom then a sack size stocking downstairs, however we always held back the best present (in completely different wrapping paper) to be from us.

This will be the first Christmas with neither child believing. They still want a small stocking in their bedroom and the big stocking downstairs. Everyone loves a family tradition.

Of course

tumbletoast · 12/12/2025 22:07

All wrapped, but obviously different paper to the ones from real people. No labels, just a first name written on the wrapping paper.

Stocking from Father Christmas, which magically appears at the end of the bed whilst sleeping. Some Father Christmas presents under the tree. Presents from family are already there (although when really little, everything appeared magically overnight and most was from FC).

mondaytosunday · 12/12/2025 22:09

Yes - and I always wondered if my kids would ask why the wrapping paper on some presents were the same! But the penny dropped in Tesco toy aisle when my sweet boy asked if Santa shopped in Tesco too. I think I looked a bit 😬 and he then asked ‘mum, are YOU Santa?’ 🤶🏼
