Do you wrap Santa gifts?

Whichone2024 · 12/12/2025 19:23

Just curious really -
growing up for me they were never wrapped, but there was one main Santa gift sitting beside the stocking. For DH there was a sackful of unwrapped smaller gifts from Santa.
Now we do Santa leaves a stocking and wraps one gift in different paper and hides it amongst the other gifts under the tree (we have big family both sides so they get another gift from us, one from each of their siblings, then gifts from gp’s, aunties, godparents etc.)
the main gift is usually from us and something smaller form Santa.

Our Santa uses red and white striped paper because that seemed the easiest to replicate each year lol. We have personalised gift tags that came in packs big enough to last their whole childhood lol.
what do you guys do?

@TheChosenTwo

'even though no one believes in Father Christmas here anymore.'

I beg to differ, if that were the case where have my presents come from? The Moon? Of course he exists.

You'll be saying the Tooth Fairy is a pigment of a colourful imagination next!

Have I been doing it wrong since 1999??? I used loads of different papers, and just write names on? None were Santa gifts or our gifts? The only different ones were from family? They knew stockings were just a bit of fun and then Xmas Eve boxes, which came from me and dad. Now I only have two at home (huge age gap) I still do the Eve boxes and stockings but now I wrap one child’s in one paper and the others in something different. They all come from Santa!! Even the 16 year olds!!

Santa presents (I decided to do the want, need, wear and read thing for this so that it’s easy to stick to and hopefully not disappoint as he grows up) are wrapped (in a paper I bought many rolls of when he was a baby) and Santa also brings stockings which are not wrapped and they’re for us parents too 😁

youalright · 12/12/2025 22:33

Yes everything gets wrapped in this house even large presents like bikes 🤣

Kickinthenostalgia · 12/12/2025 23:21

Yep… unwrapping is one of the most fun parts… find it a bit anti climactic just pulling it out of a gift bag or finding as normal.

TeddyBeans · 12/12/2025 23:27

Santa wraps everything in tartan paper here! All the stuff in the sacks plus the one gift they ask for in their letter to Santa 🥰 I'm very careful to make sure the tartan paper is never spotted by either kiddo

DramaAlpaca · 12/12/2025 23:43

We've outgrown Santa now, but everything was always wrapped in our house.

snugasabug75 · 13/12/2025 00:20

Everything always wrapped in our house. All the gifts in stockings and sacks. Each dc had the same wrapping paper for all the gifts. All presents from us were labelled off Santa.

mathanxiety · 13/12/2025 05:12

I never wrapped anything from Santa. Never did stockings either, apart from tiny ones filled with chocolate coins.

I still.do Santa even though my youngest is 24. Still no wrapping. Still.do the chocolate coins.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 13/12/2025 05:20

No, we don’t wrap the stocking presents, it’s just a job too far after we have wrapped all the others. We also don’t do Santa

mummyof2boys30 · 13/12/2025 05:27

Both teenagers now but all presents we buy were wrapped and from santa, still are 🤣. Stocking here is only food so unwrapped.
Santa didnt wrap mine as a child and i always wondered why he put more effort into my friends lol

Herbisaurous · 13/12/2025 05:32

I wrap everything - stocking and one gift from father Christmas which is never a big ticket item, this year it's a Lego set. Separate paper for these which is very well hidden otherwise! Then the rest is from us/family/friends and labelled as such.

Different situation all together but i went through various years of wrapped presents, one year presents wrapped in carrier bags and not wrapped at all (whilst my younger siblings always were), so ive vowed that my childs presents will always be wrapped now hes into the surprise element. Hes autistic and we had a few years where the wrapping and unknown was too overwhelming, but hes fully on board now and loves a surprise. He's also very into the idea of giving this year too 💙

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 13/12/2025 05:37

Santa leaves their stockings and some presents for their sacks downstairs. All wrapped. We then leave the rest of the presents in their sacks and they’ve wrapped in something different. I have 3 DC so they have three similar but different wrapping papers from Santa with a name/initial sticker (Etsy is great for these).

paininthebackagain · 13/12/2025 06:09

Stocking and all presents are wrapped and from Santa in our house except the one big ticket item like a bike, PlayStation etc they are from us.

This is because me and DH are both from families whose religion strictly does not celebrate Christmas at all so our children do not get any gifts from anyone else

Iknowdino · 13/12/2025 08:48

Yup all Santa gifts are wrapped, even the ones that go in the stockings. Different colour for each DD. They don't even believe anymore but that's how it's done still, even though DDs help with the wrapping.

Hedjwitch · 13/12/2025 08:53

I never realised that Santa gifts being different to family gifts was even a thing until I joined MN.
We got,and give, stockings with small unwrapped things in and then all the gifts under the tree were wrapped and from Santa unless they had tags on from Auntie so and so but Santa also delivered those.

I know I am an overthinker - but I used to wrap the Santa gifts in Santa paper until I randomly had a thought one day that if I was Santa I would not give people gifts with my face all over it and I know I’m ridiculous lol. DH thinks I’m mad but just goes along with it 😂

That is so lovely 🤣But also very clever, never occurred to me😁

Walkley18 · 13/12/2025 09:00

Mine were never wrapped and I wanted to continue this but DH's were so we did it his way...once. The effort involved when lots of family to wrap for as well and DDs birthday in Dec (and sometimes pass the parcel) and her tearing through gifts until she found the one she wanted... So we chatted with Santa next year and he agreed that environmentally it was best not to wrap! Strangely this year I have just wrapped all my DS gifts normally from Santa (he's 18) and I don't know why! Think I was in auto mode because so far behind this year and just did all the wrapping over a few nights without thinking! So may be a convo coming about whether we bother with a sack. DD now has her own kids so don't do one for her as I didn't want the children confused about why Santa doesn't deliver to her house for her or her DP!

So happy to finally hear of someone who's Christmas gift situation is just like ours! Was starting to feel like the odd one out buying just 1 gift from us with other gifts from relatives and friends under the tree.
I was having the same dilemma re: Santa gifts 🤣

When DDs were children, there would be one big main present from us - I always tried to get something I knew they really wanted - and their stockings, with relatively little things.
They always seemed very happy!
To be fair, there would be presents from other family too, so always some sort of ‘pile’, but must say I’m bemused nowadays to read of these gigantic piles just from parents.

Love it!

Yes we all still believe, even the teens and young adults. Message was always ‘if you don't believe, he doesn't visit’. (kids never dared to test the theory!)

I think there were times when my young teens strongly suspected Santa didn't exist but didn't want to spoil it for me as a believer! 😂

Now we just have fun with it. Young adults still put up their stockings (the ones their godmother bought them as a baby) and Santa still visits during the night, leaving his gifts.

Stompythedinosaur · 13/12/2025 13:18

I wrap everything. Santa uses a different wrapping paper that's kept carefully hidden (even though the dc are teens).

I store it in the attic which is really difficult to get into and I can get the hang of it lol

Edited

My youngest brother actually told me and my siblings first when he no longer believed - and we convinced him to pretend until he was 14 lol
to this day my parents still think they are the ones that had to break it to him lol

Stocking presents were not wrapped when I was little and I don't wrap them now. I had actual stockings, or in fact probably half a pair of tights, and part of the excitement was being kind of able to see what was in there but not quite, and I did that for my kids as well. Presents under the tree are wrapped and not from Santa, one gift for each person from each person.

Aw see my I know I am an over thinker DH always says so too, but I really try to think of all the possibilities that the kids would question lol
