Christmas film only you have seen?

In our overly-extensive Christmas film collection there are a couple that no one else seems to have heard of - El Camino Christmas about a robbery in a liquor store that goes very wrong from 2017, and the 2003 animated movie Tokyo Godfathers about three homeless guys who find an abandoned newborn.

Does anyone else have a Christmas film other people never seem to have seen?

😂Nah, I've seen it but didn't mention it as it's not as good as my classic favourites

I'm glad someone else knows it! I love that one. 😃

Love Krampus - one of my must watch at Christmas films along with Its A Wonderful Life and High Society

one film I loved was Driving Me Crazy/Dutch - can’t watch it anywhere now sadly

I’m just watching Christmas in Connecticut and watched The Shop Around the Corner last week. One of my favourites, which is hard to find so I have it on DVD, is The Man Who Came to dinner, utterly brilliant Bette Davies film

Christmas Everyday. Watched it back in the 90s with my dad and we both loved it. Found it on Youtube and rewatched, still love it. Stars Erik von Detten.

I really like El Camino Christmas and the ending made me cry.
We always watch A Christmas Story, it's set in the 1940's in Indiana and the main character is looking back on his childhood.

Yes! A Christmas Story! It's massively famous in America apparently but it's so obscure over here and I have never met someone else who has seen it.

It's very funny and sweet. I like the bit with the leg lamp in particular.

I remember this being on telly back in 1999 the year my DS was born (in the Dec) so I might've fallen asleep .
I remember Dervla being very bossy and prim in her child-role Xmas Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/12/2025 19:43

Lost Christmas 2011
Eddie Izzard was the main character - I know Eddie Izzard has some detractors - but this is a sad, poignant film with a twist .

We had a tv recording of this growing up! Was my mums absolute favorite. Had to fast forward the adverts and I think the first 5 mins were missed off. My step dad recorded Rick Stein over it in a rage one year.

Went to see this at the cinema when it came out and still one of my favourite films.

Does anyone remember a BBC film (1976) of the Snow Queen? Just found it on YouTube although no doubt it will not be as I remembered it.

Bernard and the Genie - we had it recorded on VHS. Not met anyone outside my family who watched it yet

Me!! One of our regular Christmas treats!

I have one ...

This film has a cult-like-status in France, a bit like 'Withnail & I' does in the UK ... if you know you know ... everyone knows the lines and will shout them at the screen!

LE PERE NOEL EST UNE ORDURE !
// FATHER CHRISTMAS IS A [ x x x x x x x ] !
Dir. Jean-Marie Poiré
Comedy / Cult Film
France, 1982

Stars the very lovely THIERRY LHERMITTE too!

Do find it and enjoy!

ETA - You can watch it on Amazon Prime Video, Google Play and Apple TV but do watch it in the original language (VO - Version Originale - French) with subtitles.

Silent Night from 2021 that has Keira Knightley in it.
I watched it thinking that it was a drama about family issues at Christmas - like Love Actually but with less laughing. It definitely had less laughing in it! I watched it last Christmas thinking that it would be a less saccharine Christmas treat - it is a very good film but I cried at the end and felt quite traumatised afterwards. It's excellent but should probably not be watched at Christmas or if you're feeling quite emotionally low or down - you've been warned.

Good film - needs a sequel...

The Greatest Store in the World
Cheesy, funny and happy ending

frockandcrocs · 13/12/2025 20:13

No one ever seems to have watched Babes In Toyland, as a child I loved it- and fell in love with Keanu Reeves for the first time 🤣

The Christmas Martian

I wouldn't recommend it though, it's one of the oddest and most weirdly unsettling films I've seen! It's from 1971 and involves a martian called Poo-Flower (who's actually just a creepy man wearing a string skimask over his face) landing his spaceship in Quebec and befriending a brother and sister.

I think I saw that at the pictures, late 70s, . In the days when you got a "minor feature" before the main film. See also "The Cat from Outer Space".

Mochudubh · 13/12/2025 20:19

Mention of Krampus has reminded me of Rare Exports, an absolutely brilliant Finnish film. I've introduced so many people to it, including a Finnish colleague who'd never heard of it.

Sorry @Erin1975 didn't notice you'd already posted Rare Exports, it's great, isn't it?

I've just watched Rare Exports - what a great movie! So funny too!

We’re currently watching Spirited with Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds. Never heard of it before today, to be fair it’s not that bad although not really my thing

FurForksSake · 13/12/2025 21:36
