Christmas film only you have seen?

In our overly-extensive Christmas film collection there are a couple that no one else seems to have heard of - El Camino Christmas about a robbery in a liquor store that goes very wrong from 2017, and the 2003 animated movie Tokyo Godfathers about three homeless guys who find an abandoned newborn.

Does anyone else have a Christmas film other people never seem to have seen?

Violent Night with David Harbor is a new Christmas even movie tradition in our house.

The Shop Around the Corner (my all-time favourite), The Bishop’s Wife and Christmas in Connecticut

The Bishop's wife is a lovely old film. Might have to see if I can find it somewhere to watch.

MaturingCheeseball · 12/12/2025 09:36

@nayals haha. My df accidentally recorded The Flight of the Condor over the Spandau Ballet vs Duran Duran Pop Quiz Christmas Special. Poor df was so upset because bratty me was rolling on the floor in abject misery.

I love Christmas in Connecticut, @Theda13! (and the others).

It’s’ not exactly unknown but I also ❤️ The Holly and the Ivy, with Celia Johnson being all self-denying as the spinster daughter looking after her aged vicar father Ralph Richardson. Wayward prodigal daughter Margaret Leighton comes home unexpectedly but makes it clear she’s not giving up her glam job to come home permanently, and poor Celia has to tell her boyfriend she can’t marry him because she can’t leave Daddy on his own. A chorus of aged aunts supplies comic relief. It’s slightly hilarious because Richardson was only 6 years older than Johnson, playing his daughter, but strangely heartwarming all the same. Oh, and there’s a happy ending…

I shall be watching The Holly and the Ivy as usual. It's one of my favourites.

Someone else mentioned The Bishop's Wife and The Shop Around the Corner, both of which I watch every year. Also Scrooge - the Alastair Sim 1951 version.

And I go to see It's a Wonderful Life every Christmas at the cinema, even though I can watch it on my telly for nothing. 😊

I LOVE Christmas in Connecticut! I couldn't find it on tv last year and was so disappointed. I dream of having that giant fireplace.

Anyone seen It Happened on 5th Avenue? 😃

Update on Deck The Heart - DS2 watched 25 minutes before giving up. He said the male lead looked like what you'd get if you wanted your video game character to look like Michael Fassbinder but you only had 20 minutes.

A 3d printed lead.

He did really well to manage 25 minutes!!

Falling in love, 1984 film with Meryl Streep and Robert de Niro. Not all of it takes place at Xmas but it's central to the plot. I've watched it so many times.

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 12/12/2025 09:51

I really like El Camino Christmas and the ending made me cry.
We always watch A Christmas Story, it's set in the 1940's in Indiana and the main character is looking back on his childhood.

FurForksSake · 12/12/2025 09:52

Bernard and the Genie is the most mentioned on here, I came on to say it too 😆

MaturingCheeseball · 12/12/2025 09:52

Love A Christmas Sory - although the mum’s hair is wrong for the 1940s which always bothers me!

"A Christmas Karen". No one I ask has seen this. It's HILARIOUS. Highly recommended!

A Christmas Karen is brilliant!! Best Christmas film ever

sunshineonmeith · 12/12/2025 10:51

Santa Who with Leslie Nielsen.

@MrsKarlUrbanthats my favourite Christmas film!☺️

MoistVonL · 12/12/2025 11:10

@EmiliaRuusuvuori , I am actually DELIGHTED to find someone else who has watched El Camino Christmas.

For bonus points, have you ever seen The Fall (2006) with Lee Pace? Not a Christmas film, but my family's favourite film that no one else ever watches. It's too beautiful to be believed.

Rise of the Guardians. We went to see it by chance when it came out - the cinema was empty.

We've seen it! My kids loved it when they were younger. Such a well animated film with a good story

Erin1975 · 12/12/2025 11:57

Rare Exports. It's a Finnish film about a group of people who kidnap Santa (sort of). Can reccomend but not for young kids.

Jasmineismymonster · 12/12/2025 12:27

the Greatest Store in the world! English light film with S Club 7!!

savysaver23 · 12/12/2025 12:45

What about Krampus Movie 2015, love that and definitely champion Spirited it is absolutely hilarious.

I also like 8 bit Christmas from 2021 although haven't watched since the first time so will have to add it to this years list

Looks like I've won the thread with
It Happened on 5th Avenue. 😁

PacificState · 13/12/2025 07:44

If you like Metropolitan you might like Christmas Eve in Millers Point. It’s quite meandering, doesn’t really have a plot, but I thought it was great.

gemdrop84 · 13/12/2025 08:21

Small One, it's a Disney Short about the little donkey. It's a lovely cartoon and not one person I've ever mentioned it to has seen it.

😂Nah, I've seen it but didn't mention it as it's not as good as my classic favourites

I really enjoyed Violent Night in the cinema the year it came out. Hoping the sequel that is due next year is going to be as good.
