MIL has stolen my childhood christmas decorations!

Hello all,

Bit of a strange one but I think my MIL has stolen my Christmas Decorations!!

They have been in my family since I was small and although they aren’t expensive, nothing special they are just sentimental to me.

We had these three decorations, saying Joy, Noel and Ho Ho Ho with a Santa head on the top. The letters cascade downwards and the Santa has a loop so that you can hang them up. This year I put our decorations up and only found the Joy one. Asked DH and he said he hadn’t seen them, so I only put the Joy one up thinking I’d come across them in another box, I never did.

Fast forward to yesterday when we went over to theirs and they live about an hour away so we stayed for dinner and catch up after DH finished work. MIL was showing us her new decorations and the tree (which is themed red and white). I happened to glance at the bottom of the tree where I saw THE/MY Noel and Ho Ho Ho decorations hanging off of her tree!!! I’ve never seen these decorations at their house before, so the only conclusion I can come to is that they are mine, which is why I couldn’t find them this year!

Asked DH and he said he didn’t notice, asked if he remembers us giving them to her or anything and he said can’t at all. Last year we moved house in

I’m so shocked. What do I do? Do I ask for them back? Do I just leave it? Do I sneak them out when we next go there? DH wanted to stay at home on Boxing Day but I now want to go there to retrieve my decorations (they have been invited on Christmas Day but declined due to the journey and FIL recently having had a knee replacement).

I’m very confused, I only have one photo of the one decoration I still have on my sofa.

Oh, most of the comments are still people being nasty. That’s disappointing.

I posted Santa Noel last Tuesday - I'm hoping he arrives / arrived OK. Hate to think of him lost in the UK postal system when he has a job to do .....

Your DH, 50 year old man soon to have 4 kids by 3 different women, one of which was product of him cheating on his first wife.

And he stands idly by as his family disrespect and sideline you and (what a surprise, his step daughter) and despite these decorations having sentimental value to his pregnant wife… nope, he won’t say anything because he doesn’t want to rock the boat.

DH did a “big sort out” of the decorations…. Did he dispose of any accidentally perhaps?

When did I say that he did a big sort out of the decorations? He doesn’t touch the decorations as they are in a box which are put away 11/12 months of the year. They come out in December and go back in Jan.

Bet mil admired them and dh gave them to her...
End of mystery. He obviously denied it.

Yep. 100% this is what will have happened. MIL wouldn't have blatantly hung them on tree for OP to see if she'd actually stolen them

He sorted the shed out and look the decoration box out of the shed and put it in the lounge. He did not take any decorations out of the boxes so definitely did not bin any decorations. 🤦‍♀️

De-lurking just to express amazement at the level of detective work undertaken by some posters!
If only they volunteered for the police all crime would be solved within the year 😉

Well given his reluctance to raise this and him standing b as his family disrespected his wife and step child… I am thinking he probably wouldn’t be the type of person who would admit if he does think he might have accidentally binned!

Dh wants you to leave it be because you asking mil will see her tell you dh gave her them. Exposing he has no respect for your belongings..
