‘Something from The North Pole’ on DD Christmas list help me!

I knew exactly where to turn when DD added this tonight - any ideas or things you’ve done in the past along these lines?? DD is 11 (bless her) and knows about the tooth fairy but is desperately clinging on to the elves and Father Christmas.

She wants some ‘proof’ so I blagged through the fact that FC is who he is BECAUSE there’s no proof and that would ruin the whole thing. I’m sure she knows but I’d still like to humour this last request.

i am quite crafty and we have a well stocked supplies box but equally happy to buy anything that fits the brief!

OP posts:

In the shop attached to my small local post office, they are selling sleigh flying licenses. They are also on Ebay, Amazon etc.

i love the Santa “evidence” kit idea a pp suggested.

If that’s a bit much, you could fill something with water and label it “North Pole snow”?

Linenpickle · 06/12/2025 07:08

Seriously… she’s 11. Time she realised.

Wondered about something that has the Northern Lights on? There is a mug I have found on Etsy with a pair of reindeer looking up at a light swirl, and another more expensive magic reveal mug, where the lights appear when you fill it with hot liquid. Might be fun.

That’s a good idea. A bit more grown up for an 11 year old too.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 06/12/2025 07:13

She's 11.
Seriously.
She's either already at high school or will be going next year.
It's time for you to start winking and nodding when she talks about father Christmas.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 06/12/2025 07:14

Find a big gold shiny button and leave it among the presents as if it's fallen off.

But don't because she's 11!!!

Justforchristmas · 06/12/2025 07:15

I strongly recommend all about me by Santa clause book. It's absolutely beautiful and definitely for older children.

I like the idea of a bell, with ‘I believe’ on it, but put in a small box with tissue paper and tied up with ribbon. Leave it under the tree, tucked right at the back,

And you could tea dye a piece of paper and get someone she doesn’t know to write from Santa, so she doesn’t recognise the writing, saying he hopes she’ll always believe in the magic of Christmas but that he understands that people stop believing as they get older, so he’s passing the baton on to her now to make sure any younger siblings/cousins etc carry on believing. Then roll it into a scroll and tuck it in the tree until she notices.

I love the idea of this with the scroll. It seems a beautiful, subtle mix of honouring her last request without ruining the magic while still preparing her for what comes next!

This has confused me though- are there supposed to be other people/beings who fly sleighs? If not, why would a licence exist just for Santa?

DoingAway · 06/12/2025 07:56

You can buy bits of deer antlers (which they shed every year) for dogs to chew

Newsenmum · 06/12/2025 07:57

Dont do it. Let her find out gently, gently by not offering proof. I know someone who’s parents kept it up untm aged 13 and she was devastated and humiliated.

mrmiyagisjockstrap · 06/12/2025 08:04

A snowflake Christmas tree decoration or a preserved snowflake in a decoration or jewellery.

It’s rather sweet but at 11 don’t think this might be her way of asking you to come clean?

This.

opencecilgee · 06/12/2025 08:28

Just come clean now:

why go to all this effort to lie to an 11 year old?

i bet she knows the truth. She’s yanking your chain

Hilarious 🤣

TeaDrinker247 · 06/12/2025 08:31

Did she write a Christmas letter?
Go onto chat gpt and ask for ‘an authentic Father Christmas surrounded by letters in his North Pole office holding a super imposed letter with the image attached. Across the letter add the word (whatever gift you want to buy her) ’. Then attach the image.

Then ask someone to text you the image and in your phone change the name to Father Christmas so they can see the image.

She’s 11 and sounds like she’s suspicious anyway. Just tell her the truth - 11 is quite old for believing in Santa.
But if you must maybe a snow globe?

I don’t think my parents ever actually sat me down and “told me the truth” - the idea is awful to me! They just got increasingly arch and comedic about it (eg hurry up and go to bed so Father Christmas doesn’t have to wait too long to get your stockings done). Love the “maintaining the pretence” thing - with everyone fully complicit. Worked for us anyway!

OP I think the polar bear plushie with a sleigh bell? Because then even if it makes it more obvious, at least you have a plushie. Maybe a small vial with “North Pole snow, caution may melt in transit” tied around its neck?

Has she seen the norad santa tracker you could try that too. North American Aerospace Defense Command. Considering it is the real American defence program. We always looked at it.

Pinkissmart · 06/12/2025 09:25

’reindeer poo’ left in the house on Christmas morning? Ie raisins made to look slightly more special. I put ours in glitter stuck in flour/ water so it stayed put

GreenMeeple · 06/12/2025 10:39

I would get this necklace.

philipjonesjewellery.com/products/sterling-silver-aurora-borealis-star-necklace-created-with-zircondia-crystals

With a note form Santa that he caught some of the Northern Lights for her.

Homegrownberries · 06/12/2025 11:06

If people wanted AI responses they'd ask AI.

PGmicstand · 06/12/2025 11:07

A small decorative bottle filled with water. Label it "North Pole snow "

Stompythedinosaur · 06/12/2025 11:36

I think everyone's getting hung up on her age.

At 11 it's very likely she knows Santa isn't real, but she's asking her parents to play a game with her, and it seems mean spirited not to! 11 is not too old for that at all!

You can all be shocked to know my 14yo still engages in discussions about Santa where we all still pretend he is real, it's fun!

dicentra365 · 05/12/2025 22:20

I have a similar age daughter so I wouldn't necessarily try to reinforce the belief, because I think it is okay to let it gently fade away, but I would want to show that I had listened and would probably get her something north pole themed that I thought she would like anyway. For mine that would probably be a fluffy penguin plushy.

Penguins are from the South Pole, though. Perhaps a plushy polar bear?
