Giving Tree Ideas for Teenage Boys

YourMotherSortsSocksInHell · 05/12/2025 15:05

We have a giving tree at work. I've noticed that most of the tags that have been taken are for younger kids or girls and it's mostly teenage boy tags that are left. I think this is sad, although maybe not surprising given some of the "gender disappointment" threads on here when a poster finds they're having a boy.

I don't currently have any teenage boys in my immediate circle so looking for some ideas apart from the ubiquitous Lynx gift set. Age ranges on the tags are 12-14 and 14-16. Price around £10-15.

Thanks

ETA. Only info on the tags is sex and age range.

Agree on you don’t know the circumstances so anything that’s going to need travel or assistance in any way isn’t going to be much of a present.

I think teen boys get left because they are incredibly hard to buy for especially on a low budget.

Branded Nike socks,
plain black or white T-shirts maybe a size up
reusable hand warmers ( you can buy usb ones but I’d probably go for the ones you can put in boiling water to reset them)
plain black beanie and scarf
power bank
crisps like Takis, spicy Cheetos etc..
Skincare - The Ordinary products are good and reasonably priced, they have sets like The Clear Set or you can buy individual products. Products with Salicylic Acid are good for teens skin as it works against acne and spots. The branding is very neutral so perfect for boys as most branding is towards girls. My DH and nephew both use The Ordinary and love it.
Greggs, Costa or Starbucks vouchers

A lot of charities, food banks and places that help kids like this do get given a lot of Christmas chocolates and selection boxs at this time of the year. If he’s linked to something like this then there is a good chance he will be given chocolate anyway.

BestZebbie · 05/12/2025 19:17

An Oodie (unbranded fine - branded would be out of budget) in a plain colour.
Sweets/choc, especially slightly more unusual American sweets, also flavoured popcorn or instant noodle pots.
Nike T-shirt (black, small logo)
Adidas sliders
Cinema voucher (though may not have transport, esp if your local cinema is out-of-town)
Uno or Monopoly Deal
A football (Ideally one that is linked to the current kit for a team or a current tournament so everyone knows it is freshly-bought)

PeonyBulb · 05/12/2025 19:22

You obviously have to be careful they are not items that other family members will steal or sell on. So they advise against vouchers or Branded items

So get them socks, gloves, toiletries things they can actually use.

DefiniteMeteor · 05/12/2025 19:29

I think as a generic gift you can’t go wrong with Nike white socks with the black tick
Lynx stuff
nandos voucher

Yes my teenage boys… would not like Lego or top trumps

Apologies 🙂
I miss read what you wrote. Ooops.

Thanks for all the genuine suggestions so far. I'm not sure of the kids' circumstances eg in care or from families in hardship etc. I was also thinking along the line of good chocolate/sweets but unsure of what the "in" things are with teens at the moment.

It's difficult as I don't want to buy say Minecraft themed stuff in case the kid isn't into that so thinking more generic but still a nice gift.

ETA @Sherunswithwolves We are supposed to wrap the gifts before handing them in but with a post-it saying what's in it e.g. toiletries set and chocolate.

Edited

We have to leave ours unwrapped. Teen boys are always the last to be chosen here too. I think Uno etc is a good call - something social.

I would always worry that they might not have anyone available/willing to play a game that needs more than one person.
It's a difficult one 🙁

YourMotherSortsSocksInHell · 05/12/2025 20:42

Thanks again. A power bank might be a good call, along with a multi-ended cable (micro USB, C, the other one), I hadn't thought of that.

The blokes in my life pretty much universally agree that you can't go wrong with a football.

Sunshineandrainbow · 05/12/2025 22:13

I think girls just tend to be easier to buy for so people go for them first.
Deodorant and body wash.
Greggs voucher
Snacks - pringles sleigh selection
Selection box.

My boys 12 and 14 still love lynx but also aftershaves from next, m&s, Zara. Also touchscreen gloves, notebook and pens, beanie hat, Greggs or Starbucks gift card, Nike socks and fluffy pyjamas. Also haribo sweets are a favourite

By 14 mine had grown out of it. But vouchers are a good shout. Nike white socks black logo. Or an external phone battery charger (maybe with a ubiquitous/multi port type). Sweets (haribo tangfastic or sour patch kids). Or a branded beanie hat (under armour, Nike) - adidas doesn’t cut it. I’d go for vouchers and some sweets.

and VERY thoughtful to get for teen boys. Thank you

😁None of the blokes in my life could give a flying monkey about football. Rugby on the other hand................

The only one in my house who'd thank you for a football is the dog!

Also, isn't a wrapped football a bit obvious unless you put it in a box?

Lots of great Lego sets for teens.

pinkizzy · 06/12/2025 12:01

My 15 year old boy has his eye on Merry Munch from M&S, it's been on TikTok apparently! It's a tin of sweets, choc, pretzels etc and it's £10.
Or some Nike gloves or Nike water bottle?

Applesinapie · 06/12/2025 12:06

I have a 13 yo boy who would like
Lego
Nike socks
nike gloves
chocolate
sweets
voucher for Costa
anything football but I wouldn’t get football stuff in this instance because the kid you’re buying for could hate it
wireless charger

Maybe pick two tags and get a rugby and a football then 😂

Would a spork or one of those credit card multi-tools be a good call? In addition to a Lynx gift set and a bar of Green & Black.

Interesting that a few posters have mentioned Haribo, which I would have thought are for much younger children.

Edited

Most teenagers (and I have had four) would not appreciate Green & Black chocolate. They would much prefer Heroes or Celebrations. Lindt lindor if you wanted to go a little posher

itsgettingweird · 06/12/2025 12:11

Touchscreen gloves
Bluetooth Beanie
nike socks
soft lounge pants
mini speaker
power bank
card games

Icecreamisthebest · 06/12/2025 12:14

Power bank would be perfect.

Add sweets, socks or toiletries if you have leftover cash

I agree, I know football mad boys and can’t stand all sports boys, most fall into the second category.

MrsSPenguins · 06/12/2025 20:52

I have an older teenage boy ASD. He loves toiletries and spends a lot of time on his hair - nice shampoos and conditioners, foam baths etc, mini scents, handcreams - he loves floral scents like lavender, rose but that's probably just him. Loves haribos, biscuits, hot chocolate (milk). Loves fleece blankets. He liked Lego at younger age group but not by older age group. I think kids that don't have much prefer practical presents, mine prefers them too due to ASD. We have given money to struggling children before and it can sometimes just get given to parents for essentials. Food was the most popular. Older teenage boys can love toiletries though and spend a lot of time trying to look good and it's nice to have nice ones rather than economy or not enough.

YouNiftyCrab · 06/12/2025 21:23

My son is 15. He’s very much into smelling nice and skincare. We bought him the ted baker scent (£10 blue box) from b&m last year and he prefers this over some of his more expensive ones. This and spot stickers. He’ll happily walk round with yellow stars stuck to his face 😅

stayok · 07/12/2025 08:59

At our local scheme we are told not to buy headphones, chargers etc because lots of recipients won’t have a phone to use them with.

I second branded socks, sweets eg haribo, nerds, and a small game or Lego set. Worth checking there’s no animal gelatin in any sweets.

YourMotherSortsSocksInHell · 07/12/2025 13:28

Yesterday I bought some plain black sports socks thinking unbranded was better than the "wrong" brand but posters keep suggesting branded esp Nike. Would unbranded likely not get worn? (To me socks are socks so the ones I bought will get used anyway).

My teen foster son says don't get Nike because of the trans advert for female sport. He says girls train just as hard as he does for his sports team and then Nike replaces them on advert with a boy dressed as a girl. He and a lot of his sporty friends have boycotted Nike because of this.
