Any minor Festive Fuck-ups yet?

Someone <ahem> decided to go and buy new lights for their 6.5ft really bushy Christmas tree today...and they decided 1000, on a 10m cable, from The Range, is plenty for this tree (bear in mind, their old ones are 600 on a 22m cable).

Dear Reader...

10m of lights, no matter how many are crammed onto it, are certainly not enough for a giant tree. They just about cover it's bottom half...if they're spaced very far apart <sigh>.

And I can't even couple them together because I lose the white and blue from the new set if I do that, and they don't quite sync properly <BIG SIGH>! So now I either put old on back/new on front, slightly out of sync OR I bus back to The Range to once again browse their many and varied aisles of festive lights 🤔 (I cba to bus back tomorrow & really want to decorate by the way).

My dad offered a sensible solution - he will collect 2000 warm white lights, in the morning, when he goes for garden centre cafe breakfast. But they're white. Not coloured. And might not even be enough! I need about 3bazillion metres looking at this!

Any other minor Festive fuck-ups going on? 🎅

You have to come back and let us know the outcome 😂😂

Assuming I'm not in prison, I'll certainly try!

My dear Sally located wrapped chocolate under the tree. She got the paper off, ate every chocolate without nuts, leaving those neatly in their wrapper. No ill side effects except for the caffeine buzz resulting in zooming for hours. Hence a long visit to the off leash dog park.

My dd has 2 of the same teddy this year, i bought one, forgot i bought it and got another one 🤦🏻‍♀️ xx

Keep the second one hidden, for when she loses it on the bus in some obscure place when you’re on holiday and is inconsolable.

Ohpleeeease · 03/12/2025 22:01

Every year I leave it too late to send out the few Christmas cards that we still post. I’ve done it again, we aren’t at home for the next week so it will be another rush job. I don’t suppose ours ever arrive in time for actual Christmas.

🤣^

Just get two packs and be done! Been there done that, it’ll drive you insane otherwise lol

We do what we usually do, smugly purchase wine, spirits, food, snacks that will keep and then eat it. Now need to buy it again. 🐷

I wonder how many lights I'd need to decorate the dog??

Chihuahua or St. Bernard?

lucysmam · 04/12/2025 14:34

@DinoLil would you like the spare 3miles of warm white lights I now have? 2000 of the fuckers is far too many and they go round the tree almost 3 times 🤣. They're staying like that! I'll figure out a solution next bloody year 🎄

Contrary to username, I am really not feeling it this year, just tired. My Christmas tree was delivered this morning, despite my requesting and supplier confirming a delivery date of the 16th. So I'd better get on with decorating, then...

This thread has made me smile, though, thanks all.

Ohpleeeease · 04/12/2025 20:55

Not exactly a Fuck Up but DH has managed to come down with a nasty bug just as we are away for a pre Christmas break. Our plans to attend the local town’s switching on their Christmas lights have had to be shelved, he just wants to huddle under a blanket, poor thing.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/12/2025 12:04

I just wrapped a parcel for the postman (God bless Click and drop) - all Jiffybagged and securely taped - before realising that I’d forgotten to put a gift tag on the present. Twit!

I bought DS a slow cooker because he said his GF had told him he needed one. I now think maybe she might have got him one too.
Nobody wants two slow cookers for Christmas.

I need a new one you can send it to me if you like!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 05/12/2025 12:57

One of ds’s present has been delivered to dh’s old place of work. He left there 5 years ago and it’s an hour and a half from where we now live! I’ve still no idea how that particular company have got that address……

Every year I leave it almost too late to make the few cards I still make. Every year I curse myself for not having bought a guillotine for cutting the card, yet every year when I am in the art shop buying art materials I tell myself that it's daft to buy one just to make a handful of cards and I decide the wretched things are too expensive for what they are.

Knowing my luck it'll take my fingerprint off as well 😁

Might be worth trying acetone which is used in nail polish remover (you can buy a small bottle from chemists) usually works on things like superglue.

*I've eaten a large pack of nuts that were meant to be for Christmas.

*Bought a gift and realised they won't use it. I could return it but it's already wrapped. For some reason it feels weird to unwrap it....

*An anticipated FF. I put my Christmas tree up last week. I couldn't wait any longer 😂However, I'm getting carpets fitted next week and will have to try to move it without all the stuff falling off.

*I didn't like my first go at the tree, so I did it again. I have form for this. Last year it took four attempts (and a new tree) before I was happy.

*I made up a hamper but it doesn't look right. I've put a bag over it. Hopefully the mind worm telling me to rip it apart and start again will forget about it.😁

Really sorry if this is offensive but do you have ADHD by any chance? Sounds a lot like things I’d do!

My orange flavoured chaos has already chewed through one set of fairy lights, chewed the tree, climbed the tree

He doesnt like the cat repellant spray we are now using on said tree to keep it safe. Even the dog looks at him in a wtf manner

Said cat for tax. Note how there is not a formed thought behind those eyes.

😍

Snoff · 06/12/2025 18:45

In the spirit of thrift and recycling, I tried the 'hack' I've read about of cutting up the red-striped Primark paper bags to use as gift wrap - in fact the bag even says 'This bag makes great wrapping paper'. But it doesn't. It's too thick, especially at the seams and around the handles where it's re-enforced. The tape was coming unstuck even before I finished wrapping.

Joeninety · 06/12/2025 18:50

A thousand lights on a household Christmas tree is nowhere near enough ?...................Blimey !

I’ve lost a £45 present for DD. It’s got to be in the house somewhere but we’ve searched high and low and it’s nowhere to be seen. Finances are tight at the moment so we could do without having to re-buy it

A few years ago I bought early on, a mega pack of mixed nuts for dh’s stocking (he’s a nut addict,)
I hid them so successfully, they have never turned up, and dh swears he didn’t find and scoff them - he can hardly ever find anything he’s actually looking for anyway. B

I fractured my toe and part of my foot at soft play yesterday so the pre xmas outings I’d planned are now off as there is no way I’ll be able to hobble all that way in my fancy boot 🤣

Fairly minor in the great scheme of things, but I spent goodness how many countless hours knitting a Nativity set for the Gdcs’ (C of E) school 🎄raffle. I’ve made a couple before for the same fundraiser, they’ve always gone down well.

So it hadn’t occurred to me, but they aren’t having a Christmas raffle this year! Only a tombola, and I certainly wasn’t donating it for that.
However it was offered to the youngest Gdc’s teacher for the Y1 classroom, and it was gratefully received.

That is absolutely fantastic!
