What would I like for Xmas £20 budget?

We only do small presents and I’ve been asked what I’d like but it’s not as easy as it sounds.

The giver doesn’t have access to many decent shops, they will shop online but only really on Amazon.

I’m really stumped for what to suggest - the obvious idea is books but I usually read on Kindle. Most of the other things I’d like are over budget. Practical things like a calendar are already sorted.

What on Earth can I suggest?

Nordic socks pack of 5, from Nordic Socks U.K. They are not cheap, but they are having a Black Friday sale so they £22. I have just bought a pack as I have worn mine to holey destruction. I also found they have their own shop on Amazon. They have been a game changer for cosy feet in the winter for me! * I don’t have any connection to them, honestly!

I LOVE socks. Just bought myself a pack of 5 cotton ones (I can be a bit funny with wool) so thanks for the recommendation. I bought the “Arne” ones 🧦

Those squidgy fruit sweets! Can't remember what they're called. In a green box.

@Flummoxedpebble thanks for the heads up. I already have a set but I needed new ones. I’ve just ordered sets for my OH and myself.

You’re very welcome! I just bought my sister a pack as well, delivered to her house as pre-Christmas surprise. 🎄🤶😂

No worries 😉

I would be delighted with any of these:

A silk eye mask.

Fluffy socks for wearing around the house.

Kindle vouchers.

A new sleeve for my Kindle.

Big tub of Maldon salt.

Rituals or Sanctuary shower foam.

Red wine aerating pouring spout.

A midi measuring cup (up to 100ml).

Any body lotion.

So would I ... books don't have to be on a kindle even if that's how OP normally reads them.

Failing that, a bottle of fizz that can be bought from a local supermarket if you drink alcohol @CoastalGrey leave it up to them if they want to buy champagne, cava or prosecco or whatever.

But if you normally read on kindle, books don't feel as convenient to hold and you can't read in bed in the dark or in the bath. Plus they're usually more bulky to carry around. Plus I buy all my Kindle books when they're 99 p, so someone else paying £5/10/20 for it would spoil the gift for me.

I agree with PPs that the exercise has become pointless and I don't see why other people's wish to exchange gifts should be imposed on the OP. They say it's 'important' but want the OP to do all their thinking for them and also are restricted in where they can/will buy from.

I could think of things I'd like as a gift but I'd resent the addition to my mental load and once I've thought of something, I might as well buy it, like I'm now going to with the Nordic socks, recommended by many.

Out of everything else suggested on this thread, there's only the socks and the cava/champagne that I'd like (I'm not fussy and tbh can't see any objective difference between £5 cava and £30 champagne) everything else I either have no interest in or already have too much of.

Well that's you.

I don't have a kindle at all but my husband who does also likes receiving physical books as gifts. So some people do enjoy both.

CoastalGrey · 01/12/2025 22:52

Thanks for all the suggestions, I went with Mary Berry in the end and the person who’d asked me for ideas on behalf of the giver thought the suggestion would be approved of! It’s all a bit exhausting though, I’m sure present giving and receiving isn’t meant to be!

Travel straighteners (£10) , not something I have but I think they’d be handy so I’ve asked my DS to buy me them.

WonderingWanda · 01/12/2025 23:04

Gin

MaybeItsTimeForMeNow · 01/12/2025 23:09

I am another person that would definitely favour a real book to a kindle one. Call me old fashioned but theyre much more likeable to hold.

CoastalGrey · 02/12/2025 17:18

@MaybeItsTimeForMeNow my eyesight is increasingly rubbish as I get older so I find a Kindle a much better option. I do have shedloads of real books - in fact I collect them - but for everyday reading the Kindle wins for me.

I had a lot of trouble opening a tin earlier, so a new tin opener would be good. Bit practical but never mind.

Is there any point? Adults buying adults gifts worth £20

jyst tell them not to worry about getting anything

£20 is a pretty reasonable budget. I have spent similar on friends and family and I think I have got some reasonable things for people.

I would be happy with some nice hand cream, a nice box of chocolates, gloves/hand warmers, boot socks, books, some kind of craft kit or a really nice mug?

JH0404 · 02/12/2025 21:41

I like Yankee candles, the big ones are about £20
