IKEA always have gorgeus wrapping paper and it's really reasonable and recylcable.

Echoing a previous poster - homesense always has the most unique and beautiful Christmas wrapping paper/bags/tissue/goodie bags/etc. Also always has exquisitely wrapped panatone cakes/bread for presents.

I really wish I could tie a bow- it always seems to fall off! I love wrapping paper so much. Love the thought Of wrapping but I’m not the best 🙈

I have a lot of different wrapping papers/handmade gift bags as I love wrapping! I try to go with similar themes and colours for each families in our family so they don't get mixed up when we bag them up for delivery!

I use brown parcel paper and a have a selection of ribbon, sparkly washi tape and stamps!

Ineffable23 · 22/11/2025 08:28

I have got wrapping with no sticky tape down to a fine art now. So I can mainly use really nice paper because it will get reused. I also make gift bags out of wrapping paper for awkwardly shaped stuff (see photo). A craft shop near me sells fabric ribbon for 30p a skein, maybe 15p a metre ish.

I love wrapping things nicely. This year's isn't done yet.

Have just bought 3 rolls in Lidl which is my first Christmas purchase- no gifts bought yet. They were 99p for 5 metres and just the patterned brown paper style that I love so brown paper with white snowflakes and brown paper with a red candy stripe. I keep a ribbon jar so will use velvet ribbon or similar too. I also like to cut a sprig from the real Christmas tree to attach nearer the time.

It had a strong smell too; not the nicest smell but it’s nostalgic.

PInkyStarfish · 23/11/2025 16:09

I use brown paper and ribbons and have done for years.

So you have to use a bit more paper, so you get a decent overlap, and it is difficult for awkwardly shaped things (hence the gift bags), but you essentially just wrap as normal. Then you set something weighty on top of the present (with the overlap on top) and to the sides and then I use ribbon (mediumly wide is usually easiest) to start underneath the present, come to the top, twist round at right angles and back down, then finish with a standard bow. So just the "normal" way you'd do ribbon for a present, but that holds all the flaps down. It has a bit of a knack but is totally doable. I basically told myself that this was the way all parcels were wrapped before sticky tape was a thing and practiced til I could do it.

I like traditional dark green paper. Its becoming more and more difficult to find.

B&M have had some recently, and somewhere else did too, maybe homebargains?

If we are travelling I get some tote bags related to whatever each person likes and pack their presents into those. At least they are reusable and reduce the chaos in the back of the car. Also a lot tougher than paper gift bags (sounds silly but packing and unpacking in bad weather, etc). Can always be perked up with a mini light chain, favorite sweets, etc.

rainbowunicorn22 · 24/11/2025 09:36

the old-fashioned paper from yesteryear always had things on it you do not see so much these days. Things like carriages with carriage lamps, santa sleighs, ladies in big crinolines and bonnets etc

@Londonmummy66 that looks a good site. I use this one as their ribbons are really lovely and really good value https://theribbonroom.co.uk/

Oh that is a lovely site and again very good value - will be having a good nose around later!

I only really buy presents for my husband and adult children now and no longer wrap them in paper.

Instead, I bought some Christmassy fabric (green with holly) and my daughter made it into bags of various sizes, so the presents now go in those and we re-use them every year. I think they are now on their third or fourth year.
