Weirdest Christmas stocking item?

I’m sure I’ve scandalously shared my stocking fillers with you all before. So, my 10 year old will be getting a chicken fray bentos pie in his stocking this year. I have no idea how he will react, he is going to think Santa has lost the plot, and dear reader, she has.

May I ask… why is he receiving a chicken Frey bentos pie?

HappiestSleeping · 06/11/2025 16:10

I'll have it in the event that he doesn't want it 👍

pizzaHeart · 06/11/2025 16:13

Is there any specific reason why he is getting this?
I think the weirdest we had here was bath sponges each but they were Christmas bath sponges so it was ok.

IridescentShadow · 06/11/2025 16:17

One year I put a truckle of cheese in the toe; another, a jar of chutney.

FurForksSake · 06/11/2025 16:18

Who wouldn’t want a chicken pie in their stocking?! 😆

Erm, I picked up a tin of eclairs for his brother, and this felt similar? It amused me? He’s pretty game and will find it a bit novel?

The kids usually get new sponge / flannel / bath stuff and always without fail a new pack of pants and a box of cereal or pop tarts. This year it’s s’more pop tarts.

My uncle used to give me a gift bag full of bits and it was always my favourite gift for the randomness. Weird books (my favourite was a book of random facts), chocolate and sweets from different countries, dvds of movies I'd never heard of. He now does it for my daughter. I'm never sure if it's done deliberately to be obscure or he's just nutso. Last year she got a Minnie Mouse that was clearly a dog toy 😂

FurForksSake · 06/11/2025 16:19

@IridescentShadow brilliant! I’d love to have a cheese in my stocking!

@Boogiemam get in! That sounds brilliant! I will be going to the polish 🇵🇱 shop for random treats and buying the weird books that are cheapest at the works!

Love it! Christmas stockings are the place for fun stuff. Oddest thing I’ve given was a rotary egg whisk to DS when he was about 10….because every time he saw one he said he wanted one. He was eggstatic…boom tish!

LaMarschallin · 06/11/2025 16:26

A friend of mine used to get tins of beans and other stuff from the food cupboard in her stocking because her mother didn't get organised enough with stocking presents before Christmas. Luckily, my friend took this as evidence that they were an arty and unconventional family and happily told people so (possibly putting on a brave face in retrospect but you don't think about that when you're in your early teens).
It certainly wasn't due to poverty.
I has a tin of snails in my stocking once but that was because I'd expressed an interest in trying them 🐌

Hedjwitch · 06/11/2025 16:29

DS will get a bottle of Worcestershire sauce because he loves it. DH usually gets a waxed truckle of cheese.

FurForksSake · 06/11/2025 16:44

Oldest Ds is getting a tray of Bombay bad boy pot noodles and a bottle of hot sauce, but those feel pretty normal.

when ds1 was around 2 he asked Santa for a fluffy, cuddly vulture, probably a week before the big day. He’s still got his cuddly vulture now at 12.5.

ds2 asked Santa for a 5ft tall tower of biscoff one year, FC had to get some catering jars and a big bottle of sauce as well as several packets of biscuits that year. He was eating it for two years

My Children are inverterate cheese eaters!

Inwhitelights · 06/11/2025 17:02

I’m getting my 15 year old son a squeaky pig dog toy! He finds the noise hilarious and it’s only £3!

Bbq1 · 06/11/2025 17:13

Always get my son cheeses, have bought him an egg whisk and Christmas Dinner pot noodles too! Didn't think they were a particularly unusual item.

My mum once put the yarn and knitting needles in my stocking for me to knit my dad a scarf - basically a job for me and a gift for him - and when I objected, she guilted me into keeping it and knitting the scarf.

Myoldbear · 06/11/2025 17:29

My Mum got talking to a cashier in Morrisons once who happened to say that her daughter was interested in fossils.

The following week Mum brought in a perfect little ammonite she had found at Lyme Regis to go in the girl's Christmas stocking.

As for me, well I put in Marshmallow Fluff for my daughter one year.

A friend of mine remembers a stocking present of a sleeping mask, which was “needed for the big present”. It was used to keep her blindfolded while her big present was brought in (a bike). She and her sister hoped for blindfolds in their stockings ever since!

FurForksSake · 06/11/2025 18:15

It’s the weird shit your parents do that you remember!

the fossil is a really precious stocking gift. Lovely!

Last year my kids got personalised teaspoons in their stockings!!
They are a really cool rainbow iridescent colour with their names engraved on the handle.
Totally random but they LOVED them!!

FurForksSake · 06/11/2025 19:09

I love that! So do they use them or are they decorative?

OP posts:
IamChipmunk · 06/11/2025 19:20

They use them all the time! My motivation was that they were arguing over who got to use a random left from babies spoon with pirates on! So they got their own, no more arguing as these are named!!

GivingUpFinally · 06/11/2025 19:45

Ds1 gets blu tack every year because he loves it. And other random office supplies. He does love a post it (which are now criminally expensive) he adored the year he got a stapler and staples as well.
Ds2 is getting toilet roll this year. He's a toddler and loves to throw one down the stairs and watch the chaos of the roll going every where. Not to mention how looooong it can go threw the house before running out.

FurForksSake · 06/11/2025 19:49

These are great! Their own special supplies is a great idea.

Many years ago , I would've been 9-13yo,, my great aunt used to buy me a tin of salmon ( usually John West Red Salmon , big tin )
I didn;t eat the whole tin myself , though I probably wanted to . It was shared round in sandwiches .

Odd thing is , tinned salmon is the only thing I miss , vegetarian since 14yo .
