I'm not talking about Christmas dinner. We don't buy much more than our usual shop but we do have;

A sleekster box of hotel chocolat to open on boxing day. I will still have some left in February
DD and I share some special vegan cheeses
Bizarrely I always get a fancy granola

I honestly can't think of anything else. Perhaps we are a bit unimaginative but if we fancied anything we would get it.
Curious about others treats and favourites.

M&S miniature chicken/steak pies from their party food range. So good!! I bought a pack and had them for dinner as soon as they came out back in October🤣

Also love stuffing - DM makes a gorgeous homemade one every year

I have 3 vegans visiting over Christmas, and would absolutely love to find a good vegan cheese or two to offer them. Please could you recommend?

I like Tyne Chease and Kinda Co. I’m Nut OK and Nush for a cream cheese (available in Waitrose). Philadelphia do a nice cream cheese as well but I prefer Nush as it contains less saturated fat.

Some other brands are Honestly Tasty, Mouses Favourite, La Fauxmagerie (available in Waitrose).

Cathedral City is a fairly decent cheddar and the one from Lidl is not too bad either. Personally I don’t care for other supermarket branded cheeses.

With the independent makers it can work out quite expensive as there is generally a minimum order and you are obviously stuck with their brand.

Do you not like them? I feel like a different species...

I love them. I'm just really self-controlled with them. So I might only have 1 every other day or even less. We only have them twice a year. For Christmas and Easter so I like to make them last.

StrumpersPlunkett · 02/11/2025 23:01

Mum makes me a Christmas cake I am the only one who eats it so delightfully it lasts until the end of January ( I have a small slice each day) This year I am making mince pies and freezing them before cooking so I can get a few out at a time to cook fresh. (ooh my mouth is watering just thinking about it)

Aside from that, pate, cheeses, crackers, smoked salmon. Sharing bags of crisps in cupboard. We also will have double cream in the fridge which we don't have at other times of the year.

I have a Christmas fruit bowl with easy peelers, although it also contains Ferrero Roche and Lindt balls :-)

In previous years we have had party food type things for Christmas Eve, but child a is now a trained chef and has decided he would like to provide us with Christmas Eve dinner which is a treat.

TabbieMctatty · 02/11/2025 23:06

My homemade Christmas cake.

Brandy butter - Dh loves the stuff with mince pies

Kids have also asked for a chocolate log so might look.at getting one as a treat for them..
