Morning! My children (10-13years old) are coeliac. For a couple of years, I’ve bought an M&S GF chocolate Yule log. First year, it was DELICIOUS. So much so, I bought 3 last year to tide them over the Christmas period. However, last years were awful; really dry and just not worth the £10 each price!

Ive looked at M&S again and, would you believe it, they’ve upped the price to £15(!) a Yule log.

Is anyone able to recommend a really nice GF chocolate Yule log, or any chocolate GF dessert, that would appeal to kids / pre teens? I don’t want them missing out, but I can’t find anything that sounds nice for a decent price!

The M&S frozen roulades (available all year) are delicious.

Morrisons have a very pretty "honeycomb snowflake" tiffin type thing.

Monty and Vito's Diner (the most amazing GF/DF bakery) do some really good Xmas stuff - follow her on FB/insta to see her seasonal menu when it comes out.

Di you have an electric whisk or mixer? Nigella does a delicious chocolate pavlova that looks impressive for an event https://www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/recipes/nigella-lawsons-chocolate-raspberry-pavlova/

It's really easy so long as you have a machine doing the whisking!

Breli · 16/10/2025 12:14

I always make a pavlova at Christmas with winter berries. It looks so festive.

If you are able to, Becky Excell has a recipe for a Yule log and it's so good!. I usually make it in advance and freeze it, defrost on the day.

fretnot · 16/10/2025 12:27

Nigella’s Yule log recipe is also worth your time!

NetZeroZealot · 16/10/2025 12:27

Can’t you make your own? DS is coeliac & we always make a GF Yule log for the whole family.
Nigella also does an excellent Cloud cake recipe which is GF and quite festive.

I haven’t tried this yet, but looking forward to! https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/sainsburys-salted-caramel-chocolate-bauble-tiffin-taste-the-difference-605g

Poonu · 16/10/2025 12:28

Asda gf mince pies

afaloren · 16/10/2025 12:29

I always make Nigella’s and it’s great!

@TheBabyIsUp I came on here to recommend this one, it’s delicious. I also love the very clear GF labelling on all Cook GF foods, no need to scrutinise the labels on something that ought to be naturally GF but you have to read labels as the buggers put wheat in everything (M&S salad dressings & stir fry sauces). Just look for the blue circle with GF on the package (they similarly clearly mark DF too)

ihavespoken · 16/10/2025 15:34

Following as my mam has started following GF / low fodmap diet and will be coming to me for xmas

Garamousalata · 17/10/2025 03:34

We use the recipe’s in Becky Excel’s book. Her recipes are easy to follow and foolproof. Not a dessert, but her Yorkshire pudding recipe is amazing. They come out better than the regular recipe.

GameOfJones · 17/10/2025 07:35

I agree with getting something from COOK. Easily stored in the freezer and they mark all gluten-free items very clearly. The chocolate torte is our go-to chocolatey dessert that suits coeliac DB and everyone else also enjoys. Just take it out of the freezer to defrost for a couple of hours, dust it with icing sugar and serve with cream.

Claymoreiron · 18/10/2025 00:03

Dime bar cake from the freezer in Sainsburys.

Or a chocolate meringue roulade.

or make a GF trifle.

Ruralretreating · 18/10/2025 00:52

DS2 and DD have multiple allergies. We had the honeycomb bauble from Tesco, it was nice and they are in stock now. They also have a smaller sour cherry chocolate wreath in same range.

I’ve made a rocky road in a bowl before - turned it out and it looks like a Christmas pudding. Then I just poured over some white chocolate to finish it off and everyone much preferred it to the real deal! I used cranberries and spiced biscuits to make it taste more festive.

GinSwiggers · 18/10/2025 07:26

Does it have to be a Yule log?

There are loads of things you could make - trifle with gluten free cake (I make my own), or use gluten free biscuits to make a cheese cake base, you can buy gluten free Xmas puddings, choc mousse, etc.

Equalizer · 18/10/2025 07:31

We made chocolate mousse one year. Another it was a GF base cheesecake. Just a few additional ideas as we quite like something a bit lighter but still a bit special as we don't have it all the time.

GinSwiggers · 18/10/2025 07:33

You can make your own choc yule log OP- gluten free flour and a Swiss roll recipe for the cake, then ice it.

mamagogo1 · 18/10/2025 07:46

Another cheat way (get dc to help) to make a tasty dessert it buy gf digestive biscuits, make a rich buttercream and literally sandwich them together then cover with more buttercream, looks great and is as chocolatey as the chocolate quality you use (I use 70% dark but for dc they might prefer sweeter so 50% perhaps

Dandelionsand4leafclover · 18/10/2025 07:47

Asda version of mini GF Colin the caterpillar cakes. You get 4 in the pack.
