Thread 3 - The one with the unhinged crab 🦀

1000 replies

Reastie · 14/09/2025 19:30

I certainly don't want an unhinged crab for Christmas Grin

This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

My Haul order arrived a day early really happy with it £16!
2 pairs of gym leggings which are good thick material and pockets
2 pairs of wide leg jogging bottoms - gorgeous on and pockets! Great material
2 pairs of cargo style trackies for asd DS was worried about the material but super soft and he really likes the feel - for a few pounds it was worth trying will definitely buy more.
2 pairs of pj bottoms for dds again lovely material
and various other nik naks and stocking fillers
thanks again to the lovely poster who highlighted the stacking discounts

Edited

Could I please get more information about the nice material cargo trackies? They sound ideal for so many people I know. I did a search but so many options came up. Thank you

What are people getting the tween daughters as a "main" present? DD has basically everything a girl her age could possibly want or need and to make matters worse, her dad always goes overboard at his house (and they're with him Xmas day this year).

She's super low maintenance and is perfectly happy with all of the "bits" but I can't bring myself to not get her a wow gift, especially as DS is getting a bloody motorbike.

We've done a couple of animal experiences. One was a backstage tour of an aquarium and feeding the turtles and another was a bat experience at Chester Zoo. She still talks about both of them.

When she was younger, she wanted to walk Llamas. Now she wants to hug a cow! 🤣

Do check animal welfare if you do any animal experiences though. Im not completely convinced that the cows at the hug a cow place are ne essarily willing volunteers so need to research that more before I book anything.

Can anyone recommend a lovely starter fountain pen (for me from my husband)? Something a bit special but nothing crazy. I use a pencil 99% of the time so am a bit lost.

It needs to take bottle ink, not just cartridges. I want something that looks lovely, not boring black. I hate scratchy pens so I think I need a medium nib?

MammaGnomes · 16/09/2025 12:49

Not sure if this is common knowledge or if it will work for everyone but I added some things into my basket on the new look site this morning and then got distracted so didn’t check out. A little while later I received a 25% off code and free next day delivery.

don’t forget to go through Quidco too for extra cashback.

BloodyBoilingInHere · 16/09/2025 12:53

@welcometotheblackparadee my DD is getting air pods for her main gift (waiting for black friday to bite the bullet). Sol de Janiero smellies, jelly cats, Starbucks voucher and cup are on the list for smaller things.

Last year was easier because she got Olivia Rodrigo tickets, but no one she likes has announced a 2026 tour.

My DD is having AirPods for her pre Christmas birthday

Her main Christmas present will be the mean girl the musical tickets I scored earlier in the year.

I've got this brand on my Christmas list: Wren Pen
Can choose colours and nibs and really highly reviewed from other places than just their site. I've not tried it yet. Lots of pen choices including fountain.

The Wren Write Off – Made from Disposable Pens

The Wren Write Off – Infinitely refillable, crafted to last a lifetime, and designed with recycled plastic lid made from disposable pens. Take flight & write!

Does anyone know if Next ever do any discount codes. I am looking at some bedding and it would be great to get some money off.

Never seen a discount code but their sale starts Saturday. If you send me the item code I can check the preview to see if it will be in the sale if you like

Oneborneverydecade · 16/09/2025 13:39

Not cheap but Cross Wanderlust pens are rather beautiful and come in a range of different colours (I have my eye on a Malta). You can buy a coverter to take ink as well as cartridges and there are a range of nibs to suit your writing style.

Loulouli · 16/09/2025 13:48

@Broken12 thank you so much, the item code is: AY9-189

Blessedbethefruitz · 16/09/2025 14:01

Ds6 needs the best tablet at a reasonable price for playing games and streaming tv on, android style, for which i can buy a padded case. Im keeping an eye on prime day, but I don't really know what im looking for, as we're not tablet users! Has anyone had anything that has lasted well?

On the last thread, this site was recommended for fidget toys. I'm determined not to give money to Amazon for tat this year so looking for better quality things for stockings. I ordered 2 of the little dragons from here as stocking fillers. They've arrived today, great service, well packaged and they're small but cute! 10% off as a new customer I think.

Fidget toys

Oh yes this is a brilliant website, I saved it last time and will be buying all sorts :)
