Thread 3 - The one with the unhinged crab 🦀

Reastie · 14/09/2025 19:30

I certainly don't want an unhinged crab for Christmas Grin

This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

What are people getting the tween daughters as a "main" present? DD has basically everything a girl her age could possibly want or need and to make matters worse, her dad always goes overboard at his house (and they're with him Xmas day this year).

She's super low maintenance and is perfectly happy with all of the "bits" but I can't bring myself to not get her a wow gift, especially as DS is getting a bloody motorbike.

An experience? Mine wants a shopping girlie weekend away!

Looking for help please for any past or present mums of girls who have read/collected Rainbow Magic Books, particularly the Early Reader series.

Looking for this book in the photo. Seems to be rare as out of stock in two shops I've managed to find in a search. There's another bigger book for older girls of the same name but need to find the Early Reader one.

Daughter is collecting the set and really wants it. I'm worried she is going to ask Santa for it as she is 7 and worried we dont have many years left for the magic. Also would be lovely to find it for her!

Tried Vinted, Ebay, FB marketplace. Any other book shops or second hand shops you can recommend?

Thank you so much to pp about the Asda heated blankets and PayPal cashback. That’s a great price - I’ve just bought them for my dad and niece.
Frustratingly, I’d already bought the Dreamland blankets half price for my DC last week. Ah, never mind!

@naiveandrestlesyou could look here for pens:
https://www.devonpens.co.uk/collections

Not bargainous but might be very special if you have a connection with some of the places the wood comes from. They have pens made from wood from various ships, National Trust properties, railway carriages and then even do commissions from wood that is special to you.

Collections

If you want handmade wooden pens then look no further. These high quality pens are made with locally grown and historic woods including a selection of wood from ships, rail carriages and local...

@welcometotheblackparadee mine wants a soda stream and Converse trainers. She had a Radley smart watch for her birthday as she liked the dog. All her friends like it, think it’s cute.

Eurgh. Just realised you wanted the early reader version. I can check to see whether it's still in print when I am at work tomorrow if it helps? (Am publisher, not bookseller)

Thank you but yes this is the error we made last week. Ordered it and its a bigger book so can keep when she's ready. Thank you though.

Goingincirclesstill · 16/09/2025 19:48

Edited

Thank you. Yes it is but it is actually out of stock. I found that site earlier. You click on the available one and it takes us to the bigger version again not early reader. Thank you though.

Goingincirclesstill · 16/09/2025 19:53

@PumpkinSpicedTea
Yes sorry I realised that after I had posted it and didn't remove it quick enough before you got your hopes up :( Seems to be out of stock everywhere at the moment sorry

World of Books have it for £3.50 plus delivery.

A book shop not far from where I live had a load of their early readers that my daughter liked. It would be pre-loved but generally good condition. They offer free postage on all orders. Not all of their stock is listed on their website, but you could send a message to ask.

Edit: sorry, I quoted the wrong post

Two pound new book
Bargain book £2 new Allegorizings by Jan Morris, it has excellent reviews but I've not read it so can't tell you if it's any good.
Probably suit older relatives

InbetweenDreams · 16/09/2025 19:56

@PumpkinSpicedTea that was supposed to be for you

oriel2013 · 16/09/2025 19:56

My haul order came and the initial notebooks and make up bags are lovely.

I'm looking for a recommendation for roller blades/inline skates please. My 9 year old has wide feet. Does anyone know if its possible to get ones that have adjustable widths? Or failing that just a good deal on ones to try? Thanks!

PumpkinSpicedTea · 16/09/2025 20:07

@InbetweenDreams thank you! I've sent them a message.

Back again looking for ideas for my dad (doesn’t drink anything but beer) loves after 8 mints but I can’t just give him those! I considered a personalised diary with pictures but I can’t find any that aren’t just pictures on the front (I thought there might be some with pictures throughout). He’s a typical hard to buy for person and I’m a bit stuck this year.

How about a home made ( Snapfish etc)photo calendar

On the last thread, this site was recommended for fidget toys. I'm determined not to give money to Amazon for tat this year so looking for better quality things for stockings. I ordered 2 of the little dragons from here as stocking fillers. They've arrived today, great service, well packaged and they're small but cute! 10% off as a new customer I think.

Fidget toys

I think it was me recommended it, and I'm currently sat here alternating between my snake and star fidgets. (Not a euphemism!)

They are beautiful! Love the colours and shine. Been resisting playing with the things I got for other people. Unfortunately my daughter found the star and is rather envious and keeps borrowing it so I will probably be ordering again.

PerformativeBewilderment · 16/09/2025 20:40

Those buying the Asda throws, I can’t get them to check out using the Paypal app link.

Did you just buy via the Asda / George site and pay using Paypal, or did you have to use the PP app to get the 20% cashback?

Edited - it keeps telling me product not available, but the website shows the colour I want is in stock 😠
