Loved these when I was kid, i had a house and numerous animal families, when I moved, I gave my house with all is furniture and most of my families to the little girl who lived next door. Would love to have some of these again even now I am old.

Same. I'm wondering if 50 is too old for a dolls' house...

Not at all, I bought this for my late mother when she was 75. She’d always wanted one as she loved miniature things. I’ve inherited it, it’s too good for my young granddaughters to play with yet, they have one of the Asda dollshouses for now
Don’t leave it too long though, it’s quite fiddly, I ended up having to decorate this one as DM’s fingers were too arthriticky

Yet another vote for ASDA.

That seems extortionate. Certainly kids don’t care about money as it’s the love that’s gone into choosing gift. In fact my daughter had two expensive dolls houses and never played with either of them leaving them like new
so ended up selling! I loved an old second hand dolls house my family painted and did all furniture themselves! Try eBay etc and get second hand put special touches that are relevant to your child’s favourite colours, likes etc.

We had the Lottie tree house. DD wasn't bothered but I had a lot of fun!

I bought my little girl this one and it far exceeded my expectations.

You would need to buy additional toys and furniture to play with.

Look on Gumtree

I've had dolls houses for decades, 1/12th and more recently 1/24th, plus a vintage Triang 1/16th, children's scale. Seriously addictive hobby and I will not tell you how much I've spent, but it is a great hobby. Look on Marketplace and a secondhand Sid Cooke house would be a good choice. Miniatura and the Kensington Town Hall Dolls House Fairs give a good indication of the serious end of the hobby, but some great houses to start secondhand. A picture of my Cottage house follows

Ooh, I’m also on the hunt for a lovely doll’s house! My little one is obsessed with them, but I’m trying to find something that’s not going to break the bank. Have you looked on places like eBay or Facebook Marketplace? I’ve found some really great second-hand ones there that are still in great condition.
I also came across a few affordable options on websites like Argos and The Toy Shop. They tend to have some really nice ones that won’t cost a fortune. Maybe worth checking out?
Would love to hear what you find—there’s something so special about a doll’s house, isn’t there?

This brand is excellent - https://www.tenderleaftoys.com/collections/wooden-dollhouses?srsltid=AfmBOoobhmFIs7v70GRUc7GpWmeUxPvrUtXzng667tkwIwYFDduY2G7v

Its not as expensive as Le Toy Van, the quality is gorgeous. We got the biggest but I now realise that was more for me, than my DD. I do wish I had gotten the medium sized ones. Although not played with every day, it has a central role in our household and we decorate it for Christmas (mini trees and lights), and other holidays. I searched charity shops for months and had no luck, and found ebay postage too expensive when all things were considered.

The Asda dolls house is surprisingly good and also the furniture to go inside .

not sure they still make them but my daughters was passed down from her stepsister and it's actually very well made

Agreed. We've got this one and have loved it for years. It's a good size and on offer at the mo. direct.asda.com/george/toys-character/kids-toys/wooden-toys/wooden-light-up-dolls-house/050222166,default,pd.html?cgid=D30M1G1C13&shareProduct=true

The Playmobil Victorian dollshouse is currently on offer.
https://www.playmobil.com/en-gb/large-victorian-dollhouse/70890.html

i bought it for myself about four years ago but I had to accept the children would play with it too! I have banned them from it at Christmas though as it’s mine to decorate!
can highly recommend and they last too - my DSIL has hers from when she was a child so it is about 35 years old and in great condition.

I was going to say this, the best ones are ones built yourself. Start small. Lots in charity shops too
