The one I love and know my child would love is £499 in John Lewis

Same. I'm wondering if 50 is too old for a dolls' house...

I've got it pencilled in as a retirement project. Buy a run down one and refurbish it ... like Tottie, The Story of a Dolls' House.

The Dolls House Emporium is fabulous. Something to do when I’m retired !

One of my big disappointments as a mother of a little girl was that she was simply not interested in doll's houses. I kept trying to tempt her but she would have none of it. So, despite having sourced some beautiful houses with gorgeous furniture, in the end I never bought one. 😔

I had a lovely dolls house made by my Dad but hardly actually played with it. Preferred digging in the mud 😆

We loved the Asda one, and filled it with items from Miniature World (online shop which is surprisingly addictive).

We got an Aldi one a few years back. I honestly doubt my kids would have appreciated an expensive one any more.
The pricey ones would be for me, not for playing with.
The doll's house didn't form the backdrop to tea parties and sedate events, it was attacked by dinosaurs and then Imaginext Spiderman saved the day. If they're going to bash it, I'd rather it cost less! But maybe that's just me and my kids!

As an adult I'd love a beautiful ornament doll's house with William Morris wallpaper...as a kid, nope!

We have the le toy van bay tree house.

It’s not cheap but considerably cheaper than you one you posted.
It is beautiful. Such lovely quality and the walls are all decorated inside which is a nice touch.
We have had it for 3 or 4 years and it’s played with almost every day.

If you’ve got time. Keep searching gumtree, eBay and Facebook marketplace. I got the plan toys one including the extra basement which retails for £500 for £50 off eBay in perfect condition. My DD has been playing with it now for the last 3 years

JMSA · 15/09/2025 21:55

Secondhand! Local Facebook groups and Gumtree 😊

Dryshampoofordays · 15/09/2025 22:43

I loved the look of le toy van dollhouses but our budget wouldn’t allow! We got the pink roof Asda one for Christmas last year it was actually on sale - such a bargain and honestly my dd loves it, as does her baby sister! We got the dolls and furniture from John Lewis their own brand also on sale and it works together perfectly. I’m trying not to be sucked in to the marketing of the fancier brands for kids - they honestly like the cheaper stuff just as much!

It certainly isn't! My husband bought me an antique dolls house as a gift and it is my pride and joy. I am 52, still working on it, still collecting for it!

Plenty of very lovely smaller and cheaper ones from the same company on the John Lewis site. Just choose the one of those you can afford.

ExquisitelyDecorating · 16/09/2025 09:33

My DD had the Sue Ryder one but it barely got used, she ended up just using it as a storage cupboard for small toys. It was beautiful though, DH took it to a charity shop in the end, might be worth keeping an eye on them too.

Heylittlesongbird · 16/09/2025 10:42

My mum often picks up stunning dolls houses at auction for very good prices. If you have a local auction house?

I think she also shops at dolls house emporium which is online.

OP, I found one for £60 on Vinted and it was a brand new but unwanted present. It’s gone now but there are lots of pre-owned ones for £50 on eBay in excellent condition. In this day and age, it’s not worth it to spend £250 on a doll’s house, especially if you’re not going to keep it for future generations and it’s likely to take up too much space.

AxMxPfan · 16/09/2025 10:48

Edit: £499 😮

Peculiah · 16/09/2025 12:16

How old is your dd? Some furniture and accessories are really not suitable for handling by children, or even klutzy adults (ask me how I know!)

I bought ours second hand with the intention of doing it up for Christmas and ended up working on it as a hobby for three years, so I won’t recommend that!

Balloonhearts · 16/09/2025 12:17

Where abouts are you? I know a charity shop that used to do beautiful ones that were made and donated by a local resident. He was a retired carpenter. Working electrics and everything. Not sure whether they still do as I'm no longer in the area but it was one in Epping high street if you are nearby.

If you’re near Lincolnshire maybe have a trip to Hemswell Antique Centre - they have a few for sale online but don’t put all their items on the website https://www.hemswell-antiques.com/antiques/search/availability:available/?s=Dolls+house
