Autumn and Winter podcasts

Please can I get your advice for gorgeous seasonal podcasts for autumn and winter? I’ve managed to hold off until late July but no longer!
The ones I love already are:
As the Season Turns (Probably my favourite podcast of all time)
Calm Christmas Podcast (the earlier seasons, didn’t like the 2024 one nearly as much)
Nigel Slater Christmas Chronicles (I have the book too)
The Christmas Prepper (absolutely love this one)

Ive found loads that I really don’t like, but I thought this board might have some good suggestions ❤️ Thank you!!

I’m loving these. Thanks

I really enjoyed the audiobook of Wintering last year

I loved reading Wintering but I got distracted half way through. I might get the audio book since I spend so much time in my car.

Just out of interest, when do you think an appropriate time is to start preparing for Autumn? It still feels summer at the moment.

Great question. I find I start thinking about it In august - what do you mean by preparing? I say the seasons start on the first of the month (meteorological autumn etc) rather than astronomical. I don’t think 20th March full of daffodils feels at all like winter, and 20th June is midsummer, so has felt summery for weeks

Apologies if this is a stupid question but what do these podcasts do? Do they talk about being snuggled up on the sofa for example? which makes you want to snuggle up?

AuntieDen · 09/08/2025 19:41

bbc sounds has a series called ghost stories at Christmas but I haven't listened yet (have it in my list to listen this year)

I tried one of these the other day but I wasn’t the biggest fan. Any tips on the best one? I do love A Christmas Carol though and read or listen to it once a year!

I just got new audible credits so can download suggested books now too - yay

As the season turns is a podcast released on the first day of each month. Talks about what is happening in the beehive/oak trees/the sea/animal life cycles. Traditional songs and folklore from each month is introduced and it lets you know about meteor showers and moon phases.

Calm Christmas started in covid and Nigel slater’s Christmas chronicles is a sort of diary from him about Christmas memories, recipes and reflections. The podcast is related to his book but not identical.

@YuleBeBack thanks, I am going to try & listen to one.

Cooperboom32 · 10/08/2025 07:44

Also place marking for September..

PuzzlingRecluse · 10/08/2025 08:13

Ooh if you have audible I enjoy autumn chills Agatha Christie, short stories, lovely to cosy up with in an evening.

persisted · 10/08/2025 08:31

There is a book of short stories by Jeanette Winterson called Christmas Days that I really like.
Some of the stories are a bit spooky, there are a few recipes, and she talks about her experiences of Christmas, it’s lovely. I have it on audible.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula is a great one to listen to when out hiking in the winter, very atmospheric.

Rattytouille · 12/08/2025 15:02

This thread is gorgeous. I've just ordered Christmas Days and will look at the others.

I've broken my own rules by starting in Aug.

ChungkingDreamer · 12/08/2025 15:17

These sound great. Does anyone have any reccs that are specifically pagan/folklore/nature-based?

YuleBeBack · 14/08/2025 11:32

I have a question for anyone who has read calm Christmas (The book) and has also listened to the podcast. I have some audible credits, and I am wondering if it is worth also getting the book?

I didn’t really get into the book but loved the podcast , a lot had to do with Beth’s soothing voice easy on the ear voice but it all came alive .

YuleBeBack · 14/08/2025 16:32

Thanks so much that’s really helpful!

It wasn't for me, but then I have a dreadful attention span and am possibly getting bored with being told to retreat, wander and relax.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 01/09/2025 10:14

What a gorgeous thread! I can highly recommend the Christmas Chronicles, and I’m looking forward to the other recommendations!

RainbowZebraWarrior · 01/09/2025 10:30

I woke up thinking about this thread this morning and have spent half an hour searching things like 'midwinter' and 'solstice' and hopefully have a couple more recommendations to add once I've properly checked them out.

Ophy83 · 01/09/2025 13:16

I found Bill Bryson's secret history of Christmas (free on Audible) really interesting

Mytribeof3 · 01/09/2025 15:14

Some lovely suggestions. Place marking for further ideas.
