The WOW Christmas present for DS aged 6 to drive...

(Yes I know it's June, this is the Christmas board)

DS, currently 5, 6 at Christmas loves anything he can drive. He is also a very tall boy.

He and his twin sister currently sit in one of those ride on jeep looking things which they've have for over a year and frankly they are shoehorned in and he can drive it with his knees.

We don't quite have the room, nor do I feel he's quite ready for a dirt bike or quad bike though.

Is there a bigger version of what he's currently got that anyone knows of? The thing he's got purports to be suitable up to age 8. No chance he'll fit in it by this December as he turns 6.

(Pic attached, closest to memory as it's currently at nannies)

Thank you in advance...

How about a bike?

Thank you, he has a bike. We're after more of a driveable vehicle. Even better if twin sister can fit as a passenger. She's very tall too.

Budget?

overitallll · 24/06/2025 18:01

Go kart? Take him for a trial session and if he likes it….. It is £££ though!

Budget?

Not particularly, but equally not in the thousands for a custom made thing, that's overkill for what he needs

Why does the sister have to be a passenger?

minnienono · 24/06/2025 18:03

At Goodwood there were amazing kids vehicles but I have a hunch they are out of budget (when I retailer doesn’t list the price it indicates if you need to ask you can’t afford it!) working on pedal bike skills is perfect at this age with (if you are up for the inevitable injuries) progressing to dirt bikes perhaps around 8 - not sure of your budget but Triumph now have a kids electric motorcycle range, you just need access to suitable land as they can’t be used in public parks etc

Yes our closest centre starts age 6 so will definitely take him in the future.

We are all lawn and a bit bumpy between our trees so it needs to be more robust than a go kart really.

My 6 year old rides a motorcross and trails bike fine.

Because she likes being a passenger. God forbid.

We'd like something with a steering wheel preferably.

My GS has a hoverboard with go kart which he absolutely loves, but they have a lot of hard standing that it can go on. Its not great on grass and doesnt take passengers

Yeah I'm looking at these and they look immense fun, but we are a country type house with a bumpy lawn.

I basically want the bigger version of what he's got. So it can't zoom off at the speed of light (or crash through the trellis into the neighbour's garden) etc. Electric so easy to charge would be preferable too, rather than any kind of proper engine he could attempt to fiddle with and flood.

Is the John Deere Gator big enough?

Is the John Deere Gator big enough?

No, that's the sort of size thing he has now.

I am effectively looking for a jumbo sized one of those, or similar, that a child (or two) around a 9yo size might fit in

No I mean ‘what is your budget?’

I meant we don't particularly have a budget set. I know we won't find something for £150. But that doesn't mean some daft £9k machine either, because you can always bank on someone on MN coming up with something silly and ostentatious and trying to present it as a feasible option...

great company and you can look for age suitable.
not cheap but worth it

I have seen this website. (Honestly I've looked everywhere before posting on here, I was hoping for someone to say they owned such a thing but beginning to think it doesn't exist) This website is the company that states their current vehicle goes up to age 8 and it really doesn't.

If you go on those age 9 suggestions, it's all quad type things. Then, for example is this red truck. Looks ideal. Click on it and you'll see it's ages 3-7yrs, so I can't trust what they say for other vehicles.

We have used them in the past and would have said they are pretty accurate but then ours were younger

PeckyGoose · 24/06/2025 18:59

Not sure if it's what you're looking for but last Christmas we bought our off the charts tall, zero balance or coordination just tuenedb6 year old a Berg go kart instead of a bike. It's been great! We went for the Berg Rally but they do other versions with gears and motors and stuff

Is anyone in the family keen/competent with DIY?
If so a Toylander might fit the bill.

Based on the design of the old Land Rovers, Jeeps and other similar vehicles (several different models available), they are available as a kit to build yourself but with it still only being June, there is plenty of time to get one built.😁

My late Ddad built one which we still have. With a (mostly) wooden body, metal mechanicals and electric motors for drive they are sturdy, long lasting (none of your plastic rubbish here) and great fun. As a bonus, they also hold there value so resale is not a problem.
Ddog also liked sitting in the back and being driven around.😆

If you want silly, dream about them, money no object then you want The Little Car Company from Hedley Studios who make child size replicas of exotica (bentley blowers / old bugattis / etc.) https://hedleystudios.com/

there - got that out of the way - fun to look at and dream - £9k won't even start buying one...

a more sensible suggestion though is the Toylander:
https://www.toylander.com/vehicles
this is in the thousands - but mid... and is something you can either buy as a template to make your own / parts to make your own / buy it made for you - for some families it is a great project together / for others who are DIY compromised, buying it made makes more sense!

look them up on youtube and there are several threads of people building them on pistonheads

they can be driven by an adult, so a 9 yr old size child should be fine.
